Food Scale

I bought a food scale today, because I got irritated with guessing at how much meat im eating, how big a potato i need to put in here, the weight of the fruit and cereal I am eating (because they say 3/4 cup per serving, but there is a lot of space in that 3/4 cup of Cheerios). If I have a scale, I know EXACTLY how much food I am taking in. I am going to use it for dinner tonight!
As strict as this program is, I think it is useful to have all the tools necessary to eliminate the most uncertainty possible. A lot of the uncertainty comes in the kitchen, as food portions and nutrient contents are measured differently for every food. Most scales can be found at your local department store, or on Amazon, for about $20-30. If you don't have one, I would strongly recommend getting one. Group Moderator might have some input on this.

Astro you have yet again made an excellent topic. Yes food scales are very important because many people normally eat servings that are much larger than reccomended. A food scale teaches you portion control and keeps you from eating more than you planned. Even pre packaged food from the store is usually not the correct weight. It just an extra step to insure you dont derail your diet0

Yep, I love my scales. But unfortunately all of my lunches are at work at a restaurant. I go by the "announced" weight of the food, but usually the problem is that they announce it for the whole meal So all of my lunches are guess work. Certainly making me nervous...0

How much of a difference has weighing your food done for you? I am thinking of ordering a scale myself0

I think a food scale, is a great thing to have in the kitchen. I use different measuring items, but that was actually going to be one of my next steps this month. My biggest September goal is to focus on meal preparing and nutrition in the kitchen. With working full time I think I find myself at its best when Iv'e aleast already planned a day ahead. Thanks for the excellent advice.0
