Hi
I recently had a gastric band removed after 4 years due to band failure. I am back to square 1 and my surgeon has offered revision to either bypass or sleeve. I have until Thursday to make my decision and no matter how much research I have done I cannot come to a decision.
I am 27 years old I weigh 290lbs, I have type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance and PCOS as well as sleep apnea. I have lost 50lbs through diet alone in the past 2 years but has been at a standstill for months.
I know I want this surgery mainly for my future I have been married for 7 years and we would love a child but my weight and pcos is stopping this.
Help I have 4 days to decide !! X x thankyou in advance x x
I would love some personal story's or opinions from you lovely people please xx

both operations have good results
i have pcos, insulin resistance and was pre diabetic
my surgeon suggested the bypass as it has good results in reversing diabetes with many people able to come off insulin within days of the operation
i personally decided to go for the bypass because of my love of sweet items so the possibility of dumping syndrome was a plus for me
i do have to keep on top of my vitamin supplements as with the changes to the bowel malabsorption is an issue and along with the reduced intake malnutrition can become a problem0 -
I have PCOS as well, and bypass was the way to go for me, my doctors and I decided that it would be more likely to have good long term effects for me.
as far as children go, the stats available where I am say it's about the same for either procedure that fertility rates go up, but you do need to check if your birth control would work well with bypass or not (you shouldn't get pregnant for about 2 years after the bypass for the health of both mother and child)0 -
I had a sleeve done on 8-11-2014. I was back to working in 2 weeks. The second day if surgery i was walking / shoping with my wife.0

As a previous poster said, both procedures have excellent results. I chose the sleeve for several reasons.i wanted the least invasive procedure, I didn't want malabsorption or dumping, and I wanted to be able to take NSAIDs if I needed to. I've been very happy with my decision. Best of luck to you0

Both are good options. I went for the bypass simply because my doctor told me that since the sleeve procedure was relatively new, they didn't have enough information on long-term effects. Insurance companies have just started covering the sleeve procedure in the past couple of years, so information hasn't been available. If I were you I would trust my doctor...ask him which he recommends for you and why. It's a much easier decision once you have all the answers. Good luck!!0

Either is good but if you have reflux problems do not go with the sleeve - it makes reflux worse. I had lap band and my reflux was out of hand so I was revised to RNY. My surgeon refused to even consider the sleeve for me.0

I had my sleeve three years ago and am very happy with my decision. I was pre-diabetic, had high blood pressure and I have reflux. Within months I no longer needed my blood pressure meds and I am no longer pre-diabetic. My reflux is no worse than it was prior to surgery and very easily controlled with daily medication. I chose the sleeve because all it does is surgically reduce the size of your stomach. Nothing is disconnected, rerouted or left behind. I have no malabsobtion issues and can take whatever medication I need to take. I have arthritis and although the weight loss has made it so I'm about 95% pain free, I still need Aleve occasionally. With the sleeve I can still take that.
Truth is you will lose weight initially with any WLS, but it's continuing to lose after the initial weight loss and keeping it off that's really all up to you.
Good luck with your decision.0
