Hey there :)

I am struggeling with my weight for years now. I recently got into heavy lifting which I really enjoy, but I just can't get my diet fixed.
No matter how good I plan, or how much healthy food I buy, I always end up eating way more than I should.
And no, it's usually not because I feel hungry, more because I can't seem to stop.
I am also kind of a "social eater",
Example: on tuesday we had a big meeting at my dorm. I had dinner before we started and then I brought one small chocolate bar to the meeting - that would have fit in the plan.
But then someone asked me, if I wanted a cookie - and I ate one. Then there were potato chips, I ate some.
And what I realized: I didn't really crave it. I mean, it wasn't a "oh that was so good" - moment, no, I just ate it because it was there.
And this annoys me like hell :-/

Do you have any tips / tricks or ideas on how to improve my diet?

I struggle with this too. If you know there is going to be food there, maybe you could bring an apple or another healthy snack? That way, when something is offered, you can politely decline and still eat in the social setting. Another possible solution is to plan it. Again, if you know there is going to be food, and you are likely to indulge in some of it, take that into account for the day. "Pre-plan" it by saving a couple hundred calories for that evening. That way you can have a little bit, but can also remind yourself not to have too much.

Hope that helps a little bit. I know that the 'want to eat' factor is hard to get over. I'm definitely still working on it myself.

Im a social eater and have a big sweet tooth as well. Its tricky and takes some self control.

I agree with Lara. If you know your going to be in a situation where there is the potential of snacks then plan it into your day. Bring a healthy snack and try to pass on the bad choices for the good ones you brought. Give yourself a buffer and try to be concious of what your grabbing and how much. I try and log it on my phone as I am eating it. My friends and husband laugh at me but it helps me be more aware of my choices. I even do it when we go to the buffet. Having it show me what an actual serving size is helps and I can plan my snacking on that rather then checking the nutrition info on the bag.

This is all the same for me: My workout includes LOTS of strength training and I am a social eater as well. I had to give my self kind of a realistic mind set.. I knew it was me putting the food in my mouth or even picking the food at a restaurant and I just had to/ still am practice telling MYSELF no in order to tell others no. I have these beautiful muscles I wanna show off and I won't get there if I keep eating things I know aren't good for me.

However, aside from that...I've started bringing a little lunch box of sorts and packing snacks and even a possible mini meal in case I'm put in a situation where I'm going to be around junk food( because I'm a serial snacker with chips etc)

I know getting the mindset is easier said than done and I can't really brag because I've only been back on this weightloss journey for about a week but I'm taking it day by day just like you and if you mess up, tomorrow is a new day :)
