This is my first week following Jef Fry's nutrition guidelines. We'll see if I've made any progress in 2 weeks.
I did gain 5 lb from the camping trip but I'm sure its from all the carbs that I was eating. I'm not worried. In fact I guessed that I would gain 7lb lol0 -
Hmrjmr1 - Good to hear about the doctors visit.
I had a doctors visit today as well, just followup on lab work. A1C down to 5.5 from 8.1 6 months ago. WooHoo! doc wants me to drop another med to see how I do!
Heronh - Thats my least favorite thing about camping, cleaning up afterwards.0 -
Happy Thursday Folks
Back to work, and heading up early to lift before my shift starts, Ovhd incline press today. may tag a Metcon drill on after the lifts since I didn't do much yesterday.
Mark - Good O dropping a Med is some of the best progress. Most Docs and Nurses are surprised when they find out I don't take any meds just my supps and only a few of those. I've read somewhere the average 60 year Old Male is on 3-5 and avg Female that age is on 4-7 Good eatin pays off.
Heron - Camping is always a good time, and you're right about doing and learning for yourself is a better way. I spend 2 hrs a week on Pubmed at home researching for me and learning about new ways to interact from an recreation angle for my patients. I also use our hospital research tools and can get the research I might have to pay for on Pubmed if I want to dig beyond the extract.
Got to get weaving have a great day folks.0 -
Nice walk this morning in our fresh new snow! Dogs had a blast rolling in it.. ok most of the dogs. Lucy the Pit Bull pretty much stayed out of it Great for you guys on dropping the meds. My wife is still working to get off the last of hers.0

John, thanks for the reply but I meant Howie... since he seemed new to the low carb high fat thing..
I am STILL cleaning crap from camping  . This would have been a lot easier had it not rain. And my friend had brought a canopy but we didn't set it up because it was so beautiful, out campsite is well shaded and NO FORECAST of rain. Next time I don't care what the weather is i am going to put up a canopy.
Rosie my young female got her pads scraped up because she is not experience on trails. Whereas Kira my 13 y.o chooses where she walks. It was funny, we came to a fork and she wanted to go one way but us humans think the other is the right way.... Well it wasn't, it led to a rocky drop. We had to double back and take the trail that Kira wanted to... I should trust her more, when we go sledding where there is fresh snow, she always know where the trail is.
I sliced my palm pretty good last night so no Muay Thai for a while. It makes doing everything such a pain in the a**
Have a good day everybody

I do have prime and will watch that this weekend. It will give me something to talk about Sunday on our hangout.
I have done lousy this week and I'm sure will be back up on the scales. My wife and I are both trying to get back in the grove and finding it tough. I really need to kick it in gear I want this last 60 lbs gone.0 -
Funtastic Friday Folks! Got to go in early again today to do the music/karaoke for employee appreciation picnic lunch today. Will B Jammin' alll day Long today.
Heron Hope that cut heals quickly for ya.
Howie - Understand the frustration, Something that has helped me in the past is to let go of the big picture for a while and think more about making it work TODAY. or even lets just make it work and fit for this meal. Think less about success or failure and more about the positive accomplishment that comes with good elements in your meals, and maybe how to overcome the challenge or obstacle of what you know may have been a less than optimal choice in this meal. Then ruck up and keep moving up the trail.
Mark - Enjoy the snow. Not many things better in life than the weather being in the seet spot you like,
Have a great day Folks.0 -
Friday. Happy Friday!!!
First off, Howie, John mentioned Jason Seibs "The Paleo Coach". This is the book that I tell people changed my life. I'd read every paleo/primal book and had been tinkering around with the paleo "diet" for a couple years. I discovered him via Robb Wolfs podcast episode 197 on July 23 2013 ( I looked it up, while a pivotal moment it's not like it is time stamped in my head LOL). Not sure what about it spoke to me. But it did. My focus shifted to health. To making steps everyday. To healing myself from years and years of yo yo dieting. The podcast is a good intro to his POV. Just re downloaded that episode. The book great. I love his and Sarah's podcast (everyday paleo) even if Jason can be ranty. And they were on Kiefer's podcast body IO a month or so ago.
In other news, well not really because Jason's book introduced me to short daily meditation. Anyway, I've started tracking my resting heart rate in morning post meditation. My avg resting heart rate at waking is 72-74, post meditation 64-65. Not bad for a nearly 55yo woman. Must be all the walking and stuff (like meditation). A year ago my resting heart rate avg was 88-89.
John. Really glad to see you had positive lab results. Have you read anything about a keteo/low carb diet and prostate cancer? I wish I'd known what I know now 7-8 years ago... I often wonder if it would have changed my fathers outcome.0 -
I did another pack hike last evening. So 2.5 miles, 42lb pack, and done in 44 minutes. So that works out to 3.4mph average. It must be getting easier since I thought I was going at a nice leisurely pace. I figured 3.8mph or so. No, I don't have a HRM, although I was using the Bodyfit armband thing for over a year. It was ok, but would not give you that information anyway. I have thought about getting a Fitbit, but the Verizon Wireless store peddling them got me suspicious. Perhaps I should just go back to a HRM instead. I used one for years when training and mountain bike riding.0
