"Only you can prevent forest fires."
"A mind is a terrible thing to waste,"
"Take a bite out of crime,"
These don't have much to do with health or fitness, but they are all major to accountability and measurable change on a massive level. And alll because of a symbolic character with a catch phrase repeated over and over - to spark a reminder (maybe even a little brain washingwashing and a sense of individual responsibility/accountability) into many.
Do you have a catch phrase, a single re-motivatingre-motivating statement?
If you do: Post it not just here but home, work, school.
When I was going through a terrible depression my "catch phrase" motivation was 444. I wrote it on my hand daily.Just that 444, For God, For Family, For friends. Meaning no matter how bad I thought I felt my life was owned so I still had to continue.
Being there for family and friends and doing well cause of them is generally a given but not when your mind is reeling in only your own pain. Same with forest fires, of course no one wants to start them, till we have too much fun camping and forget... And everyone wants safer streets or to do more to help keep them safe but anonymity and looking the other way because no one else is saying anything is normal...
The things we are trying to do now - be healthier, eat better, do more physical exercise. Are things that are not cultural habits yet. They aren't normal in a society that eats every time it gathers and talks TV, movies, shopping, video games and internet. The public health AD industries are even trying to figure out the same key of individual health accountability and they like to know what we want before we want it, lol.
My point is. Find your hammer, find a sight to look through because we are trying to break through a glass ceiling. That is why this is so hard, but only we, only I, only you, can do it.
If you are not taking at least 10 minutes to work out today, you are letting only yourself down. But more so, that 10 mins won't just change your life, it would be a habit to help change the lives around you. Those family, friends, and strangers we haven't met yet.
And now, I'll get off my soap box and work out for at least 10 minutes too. . Sorry for the longer rant. We all fall off the wagon, we all need to get back on. Find our spark. And hey, jumping on a wagon is activity!

So funny to read this today. I woke up this morning knowing I need to change but not knowing how and a scripture came to me (one I have heard/read many times before) but this morning it really hit home. I keep thinking I can't do this on my own and that is true. As I was getting ready for work I started visualizing the verse on my mirror and made plans to type it out, print it, and post it all over my office and when I get home I will find something that I can write on my bathroom mirror with and will write it there a s well. It has become my "catch phrase"
Philippians 4:13
"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
I am not in this by myself!!

My motivation comes from fat shaming, like part of Ricky Gervais' routine:
"I laugh about being fat, but I should be ashamed. I should walk down the street and have people shouting 'Fatty!'. That's what I want, to get me out of it."
It never fails to get me on the elliptical at 4 am.
So far, so good on water.
Turkey bacon, scrambled eggs with salsa, and a gala apple for breakfast. A vegan veggie medley on a whole wheat sandwich thin with a cup of baby spinach, and 4 oz cottage cheese for lunch. I'm thinking left over chicken and veg stir fry with bean thread noodles for dinner.
I actually started my squat challenge today! I made sure to do them today as soon as I got home from class, and I did 30 minutes on the elliptical this morning.
On another note, I just wanted to thank you guys for giving me a place to feel like there are people that hold me to a higher standard. I think that might be why I've struggled so much with my weight in the past, is that no one really cared enough to hold me accountable for my actions and what they were doing for my health. You guys are amazing, and very much appreciated!0 -
I started reading this book yesterday. "The Hurt Artist" by Shane Niemeyer. It's about a junkie who straightens up his life and now does ironman races. Anyhow here is a quote from him
" Whatever I did to my body had an effect on every other aspect of my life. What I did to my body was going to influence the course and quality of the rest of my life. As a result of that idea dawning on me, my workouts took on a different tenor. It wasn't just about losing weight, shedding fat, and building muscle. The structure that housed my essence, what everyone referred to as Shane, had to be sound. What I did to improve that body also improved how I thought, how I felt, and how I responded to others. My body housed the energy system that was me."
I thought this was good.
Hope you are all having a great day0 -
Sweetpea that was a good passage, thanks for sharing.
Today was ok. I made healthy choices, but I still went over my calories. I've decided my focus will be on cutting down on my carbs. I eat way too much white bread, white rice, pasta, etc... I need to incorporate more whole grains and increase my protein.0
