Newbie, how am I doing?

I started Paleo upon seeing a friend's success with it. She's lost 30 lbs of post baby weight in 3 months that she has carried for more than 5 years. Also, her health is much better. I also have post baby weight to lose. I'm 5ft 2 in. tall and am at least 15-20 lbs overweight for my frame. I started a week ago at 135.5 lbs, down 2 lbs already and feeling good. Please don't yell at me for weighing myself. I just did it this week to see if there was a difference this time around. I'm not a scale slave and don't expect fast miracles. This is my second attempt at paleo. First time I went a little crazy eating macadamia nuts and adding full fat cream to my coffee when I normally drink it black. Why? I guess I didn't want to feel deprived. I know I have to kick coffee but that is hard for me. I'm working on it. Anyway, this time around I am being more careful. Black coffee and then water to drink. A typical day for me now is 2-3 eggs over easy or scrambled (no dairy added), piece of fresh fruit, lunch is green salad with leftover protein like roast porch or chicken breast, dinner tonight will be green salad and grilled chicken. I have my macros set to 40 % fat, 40% protein and 20% carbs. I reset calories to 1800. I'm not worrying too much about calories right now but I do think excessive calories from Mac nuts the first time around did me in. My weight went up and then down and then up again. This time it's just going down slowly, which is fine. I'm not exercising much now except to run around after my small child but plan in getting back to workouts soon. I love weight training!
I am trying to lose weight primarily but I'd like to get my energy back, feel comfortable in my skin again and hope some depression symptoms will clear up. Also, I have Raynaud's Syndrome and really hope that will improve with Paleo. My husband and I were Pescetarians for almost 5 years before this, eating only fish and no poultry, pork or red meat. Veggies, dairy and grains, too. I gained weight, depression/anxiety got much worse and the Raynaud's got very bad.
How does my daily menu and macros look?

I should add that I realize with weight training I may weigh more but be a smaller size and that would be great! I should really say that I want to lose fat and inches. I gained inches on my waist , thighs and hips that I did not need after having my daughter 3 yrs ago. I am keeping track on my measurements as I go.0

You are coming into this with a pretty good attitude. :flowerforyou:
I think it's easy to get carried away with nuts in the beginning and some people go overboard with sweet Paleo substitutes. Nuts and fruit are moderation foods for me. I eat raw (or very low heat processed), mostly sprouted, unsalted nuts and am not stimulated to over-eat them. If they are roasted and salted, bad news.
My personal opinion on your macros is that your fat may be a bit low and carbs may be a bit high if you are aiming for fat loss. 40% protein is quite high too. You might find approx 25-30% adequate, which gives you more space for fat. Of course it's more important to just eat real food than to obsess about macros. You don't have much to lose so my best advice is eat a bit more fat and less sugar (including fruit). Of course everything depends on how active you are, your particular health issues etc. For me a low carb, high fat lifestyle addresses metabolic disorder, BED, depression, etc.
Your food diary is closed so I can't really comment more specifically.0 -
Thank you for your reply! I thought I opened my food diary but I guess that I didn't save it. It's fixed now. Not much there since I really just started on MFP today. I will adjust my macros and see what that does. We have so much fresh fruit in the house right now from our CSA share. It's hard not to eat it but I will try to freeze or can it to get it out of my sight. Thanks again for your input! I feel like paleo is right for me and it really isn't a struggle to eat this way. I like to cook so that part hasn't been a problem. I find that my food cravings for carbs are pretty much gone.0

I just finished dinner and I felt like I ate so much today. But I logged all my meals and I am under the goals, just a bit. I don't think that I've ever eaten so well on a "diet" before :-)0

We are the same height and my starting weight (as of mid-July) was about 137-138. I am not losing weight fast but I think I'm going in the right direction. I aim for 1500 cal/day and right now my macros are set to 25% carbs, 25% protein, 50% fat. This works out to about 95 g of carbs and protein and 85 g of fat, which is fairly easy for me to remember. Some people suggest carbs should be much lower, which I think is also fine; right now I'm doing a fair amount of exercise so I'm trying to keep carbs most days below 100g and otherwise I don't worry about it much. I'm not certain this scheme is ideal but I figure it's a work in progress so I'm trying it this way for a month or so before I start tinkering more.
congratulations on your dedication to good health and good eating0 -
Thanks for your input. I can see now how nuts can really skew the calorie count! I had some toasted pecans on a salad last night and it was the most caloric thing that I ate. I will have to watch that. They were so delicious, though! Today should be a good day. I have lots of leftover chicken and roast pork and salad greens. I love this time of year in the northeast-so much good produce!0
