Prep frustrations

I'm five weeks out from my first half, point to point trail event that's apparently a bit of a killer on good times, and I've just had two weeks off running as something has hammered me, and left me shattered.

I managed a nice 5K in the forest on Friday evening, and a 45km road cycle on Sunday, but it's knocked my training out of kilter, as I was supposed to be on a 12km race pace session on Sunday, and a 10 miler this Friday.

I'm tempted to try the 10 miler, and see how it goes, but don't want to risk a third week off training.

Just getting the frustrations off my chest really, but I've been looking forward to this one and it's looking as if I'll just manage to squeeze the training in with no contingency now :(

    From reading a lot of your posts, I have no doubt that you will manage the half, just fine.... especially a point to point...

    Well I raced this morning, despite ending up with about six weeks of reduced mileage as a result of feeling rough and the side effects of some medication that the doctor put me on.

    My objective had been a 1:50 completion, but after the reduced training that became completion, and ideally sub 2:15.

    I got 2:07 in the end, so reasonably comfortable with the outcome. I need to work on fuelling strategy, I certainly felt the benefit of fuelling while I was out, but faded a bit towards the end. Also the last two miles were pretty much all tarmac, so I've wound up with a niggling pain in my knee, trail shoes were needed for all the forestry and farmland, but weren't the right thing at the end.

    Lessons to take away from that, and the potential to do the full 26.2 event this time next year.

    Those races with hybrid terrain are rough.... Sorry to hear of your injury, but wonderful finish anyway!
