Terrible week

Weds morning my son woke up early coughing so got into bed with me, no temp he fell asleep again so when the alarm went off half an hour later I let him sleep a little more and got dressed then did his breakfast. Came to get him and he was having a full seizure. I have never been so terrified. Husband and I got him in the car and the seizure stopped on out way to er. That half an hour after when he couldn't respond and then had no response in his left arm and leg were a nightmare. After 2 days we now know he has Benign Rolandic epilepsy. Amongst all the other possible diagnosis this was the better one, it can be treated and as long as he does not come up as allergic to the med in 3 to 4 weeks, it can be controlled and best of all will have no impact on his schooling and he will out grow it at some point. I nearly passed out once at the first hospital. Hated myself for everything I might have done wrong in the ambulance to the and hospital where they had pediatricians and neurologists. Having already been struggling food wise the last few days have been pretty terrible. Today I am back to it though. Just wanted to let you know I am still tracking just not posting as much for a bit while I get my baby and I back on track.

Sending positive thoughts your way. Nothing is more terrifying than having there be something wrong with your little one. As a mother I think it is ingrained in us that it is somehow something we are responsible for. Try to take care of yourself as well as your son.0

How terrifying! So glad your little one is going to be okay. You can do it - you'll be feeling better soon!0

Well that puts my piss piddly day into perspective.
I hope your son is doing better, and I hope you are doing better as well. I'm glad you were able to get a diagnosis and that their will be a treatment for him.0 -
So sorry your son and your family had to go through that. Modern medicine is amazing, though. Ask your doctor if a ketogenic diet for seizure control is a good idea - I know plenty of families that use this and it helps control the frequency of seizures for their children. And if anything, it won't do any harm.
Try not to let the stress get to you. Breathe and let yourself be that strong rock you know you can be for your son while he may be a little afraid. Try to make positive choices so that you can get healthy and make sure you can take care of him no matter what. Sending positive thoughts your way.0 -

What a shock. I thought of you all day yesterday. Hope you're finding your way through. It's so scary when we see our kids struggle. Big HUGS to all of you.0

Sent you a PM. Hope you got it. Sending lots of positivity your way.
In case you didn't get the PM, my only suggestions would be looking at healthy eating for you as part of your son's prescription for treatment. Without you at YOUR best, how can you give the best of you to your son? So, when you are taking time you feel like you don't have, or using up energy you KNOW you don't have, think, I'm doing this for me for my son...
Just a thought that might help you through a bit!0 -
Im glad your son is ok and hopefully adjusting to his meds well. Well done on continuing to log thats such an achievement at a tough time0

Thanks all for the support, and thanks for the pm I did get it and you are right making better choices for me is part of being a better and healthier mum for Dean. I still do not sleep great - I actually went to nap at 10am yesterday and ended up sleeping till 2pm!! Dean is back to school and life is back to the routine so better week had this week. The weekend is going to be tricky with Canada's thanksgiving, but it will be nice to see my DSIL, DBIL and nieces. And see Dean playing with them and being normal. We are now a week into the meds, so they have kicked in now. We raise the dose tonight, and again in a week we raise it to its final amount. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease to all the gods, universes, and anyone listening let my baby not be one of the 1 in 20 kids that are allergic to them.0
