Exercise & Calories?

Since I do engineering, I was wondering about calories and exercise, particularly walking. I weigh about 292, which is about 122 lbs overweight. If calories are an expenditure of energy and if its based on a normal weight person, and if I am carrying an extra 122 lbs, would that take more energy/calories to move?

IOW, If a normal person had their 122 lbs son piggy back on them, wouldn't that take more energy to walk?

Just wondering...

Yes, and this is also why you are recommended to recalculate your macros every few months if you are losing quickly--as the weight and fat shifts, so do your needs.

  • I am in the same boat! I only weigh once a month (5 weeks LCHF so far) to get my marcos recalculated.
And as far as exercise, I just lift weights 3 times a week and do a evening walk around the lake on my off days. Not trying to force too munch.

yes, that is why my 220 lb hubby burns more calories on the elliptical than I do at 160 lbs even if we do the same program and all the same settings and put our pace the same. He burns about 800 an hour, while I can barely get 600, and that is only if I'm working my heart too hard (read: heart rate too high) which isn't going to burn fat, or so I've read.
