After swinging in the wind for 2 weeks we finally got our surgery dates. I'm going 11/10 and my husband is going three weeks later on 12/1. We've got to still do the pre-surgery nutritionist, surgery consult, and final testing. So glad we finally have this solidified.

Now to get my act together!

I finally got penciled in for Nov 4. Its been a long ride. Here in Canada the surgery is free but there is a long waiting list. Once you get in the Que the fun starts. There is a full year of counseling with a team from the following specialties; psychologist, nutritionist, physical therapist, nurse and surgeon. There is no firm guarantee to obtain the surgery unless you adhere to their rules on tracking and maintaining your health. In hind site I think this is a better approach as a quick fix may not change your lifetime habits. I still am nervous about surgery but the alternative (do nothing) is not an option. I've heard horror stories of people who jump the Que and go to Mexico to get the surgery only to fly home and have a rum and coke on the plane home and go directly to the emergency room.
    Good luck.

    Congrats, Dale!

I agree, I had a decently long stretch pre-surgery (nearly 6 months) and found that hitting the pre-surgery plan of eating and exercise really hard prepared me well for surgery. I had plenty of time to air out my doubts with myself, lost a bunch of weight and got in pretty good physical shape.

I am now three weeks out and adjusting to the post-surgery routine is another challenge, but I am learning!

Good luck with the next three weeks and then the surgery!

That's great news Dale. And I agree that even though I wish it had happened quicker, I recognize the value of the 4-1/2 months I've spent getting to my date.

Feel free to friend me. It's always helpful to have company on a journey like this.

I'm two days after you Phill - Nov 12th. It's really only a 6 week weight -I can't believe I made that typo  (or thereabouts in Australia).

Agree with you Dale, that the long weight can be very helpful to get everything prepped body and mind. I am having a second surgery because when I had my first, even though I thought I was ready to make all the changes I needed to I wasn't. That was 8 yrs ago. Older and wiser (well a little!) now I feel a very different kind of confidence than I did before and I believe knowing what I did wrong and also knowing what to expect in this process first hand is going to help me in the long run.

Oh, but I did want to add that some people are genuinely ready right away, and waiting for them not really required.

Feel for your hubby Phill in a way watching you go through the tough stuff to start can be a bit scary knowing they are following in your steps... eeks!

    Qski, that's great!

My going first is another reason for me to try and be as successful as possible, to blaze the trail for him. Starting to get all of our last appointments lined up. Just a testing lab appointment to get scheduled.

Congrats--I had surgery on 9/9 but my hubby was turned down by our ins co because he gained 4 lbs over the last year! He is fighting them and I am hoping he wins. Having both people getting the sleeve was what we wanted too. Best of luck to the both of you!

    It'll be a good day!

I just got the pre-op diet. My program isn't concerned with extreme calorie deficits until you get about 10-14 days pre-op, as long as you lose weight and start eating better. I've lost over 20 pounds since I started the program at the end of June, but starting Monday the 1,000 calorie, low-fat diet kicks in. I'm probably going to be a miserable S-O-B!
