New lifestyle rules

After going nuts one morning trying to track down a sports bra this week I reorganized my clothing in my wardrobe. I have never owned much clothing because it was so hard to find anything that fit, looked good and was sturdy. Not a problem anymore. I did come across 3 blouses size large and 3 pair of XL undies and a pair of medium knIt pants. I suddenly realized they had to go. I have new rules now. No matter how pretty no large clothing is allowed. Rule number 2, no elastic waistbands unless they are on exercise gear. I need my clothing to immediately remind me that I am exceeding normal intake. Does anyone else have new lifestyle rules?

we are hoping to get pregnant post surgery, so I am not there yet, but I would love to have your rule now with a big pregnant belly - so I can be one of those people who you don't know is pregnant till you see them side on0

When I was pregnant no one noticed because I was so fat I just looked fatter. 6 months of morning sickness and heaving in the bushes walking from the parking lot. I got no sympathy. I think people thought I was hung over.0

I just went through my closet and got rid of size 16 and higher, size 3 from chicos and all xls! I tried on the pants and they fell off so off to donations! I have some pants that need to be altered, too long! I need to get that done soon! I am now a 12 14, size 2 pants in Chicos and size 1 tops,0

I agree 100%. I used to take my "fat clothes" and store them because I knew I would be back in the eventually. Not anymore!!! When I notice my clothes getting looser I will do a sweep and donate EVERYTHING that is too big. I WILL NOT get back into them. I refuse to keep that safety net. It is a little step but it is truly helping with this journey. Now I only store the clothes I am aiming to fit in to. Just fit into some shorts this weekend that I probably haven't worn in almost 2 years. It was an amazing feeling! Keep on tossing the "fat clothes" out everyone. We don't need them anymore. Wahooooo!!!0

I too have new lifestyle rules. If it's too big it's gone. The local Goodwill loves me! I will wear elastic waistbands in yoga pants and such on the weekends sometimes, but I will not EVER buy the next size up again. If my jeans and the dress pants I wear to work are snug, I'm aware immediately. I will no longer assume I can't do something physical or active. My new mantra is "I'm up for trying that". At my age and with my arthritis and such sometimes I can't do something, but I don't assume any longer because I am much more mobile and able than I've been in decades. No more hiding at home for me! And finally, You can offer me anything to eat or drink, it's my responsibility to follow my plan and say no if it's something I know doesn't fit into my calories for the day. I no longer accept things to eat or drink just to be polite, to fit in, or because I'm worried about your feelings. I am doing what I'm doing for my health and most people get that and are fine when I decline or don't indulge. And if they aren't OK, well too bad for them.0

I have a pair of jeans that I will keep - that were the largest size I needed as a reminder that I do not want to be there again. I also have a pair of shorts from my honeymoon 15 years ago that I want to get back into. Can't remember the weight I was, but I was in a 16 wedding dress, and was the smallest I'd been in a long time.0

Love these! Now that I have some blue jeans that fit me I need to get rid of my stretchy pants I've been wearing.
I had the mind set since I'm shrinking they will shrink with me - LOL! Nope good idea, they need to go too!

Misty, those stretch pants will shirnk with you for awhile, but they will look worse and worse as the weight comes off. Eventually they will just look sloppy. Because of a tight budget, I kept wearing my too big clothes for longer than I should have and my boss, female, took me aside one day and told me that I was starting to look too sloppy. She understood I wouldn't want to spend a lot of money on clothes as I transitioned from my size 4X (32/34) to wherever I finally land, but that I still had to abide by the corporate dress code which specifically talks about wearing "proper fitting clothing". It was the wake up call I needed. I was still losing fast at that point, so I found that if I bought one size down from what I really wore, it was tight for a few weeks, then perfect for a few weeks and then started getting too big. I could actually make something "fit" me for about 6 months that way. Second hand, resale and thrift stores became my new best friend. Now I'm losing much slower so everything lasts so much longer, but if I buy new, it's off the clearance rack 99% of the time. I love finding the bargins now that I'm small enough to fit into them.0

Thanks!!! I wore them today and when I read this thread I was thinking, Okay tonight they go into the donate bag!0 -
Yep. If it's too big, it's gone! Only, I tend to wear lots of leggings/pointelle pants and tunic tops along with dresses or skirts so I can wear my tall boots this time of year! Hard to give up elastic for me! However, the stuff I wear that stretches now... not a lot of room for purge under those slim fitting clothes! My jeans... THOSE will let me know if there is a problem quickly. The size 4 Rock Revival skinny jeans... No wiggle room there at all and I can't afford to replace that investment!0

Do sweat pants fall under the "no elastic" rule?!?
I couldn't imagine giving up my comfy sweat pants...nothing like laying around in something that gently hugs me, including running out with them!
I wore them before I got this big and I cant imagine not having them for after weight loss!0 -
LOL, I wear my pajamas like that. My rule is they can't be worn to work or in the non- gym public. I have butter soft yoga pants that I adore wearing while I clean house.0
