Hi breastfeeding mommas! I'm a FTM exclusively breastfeeding my 9-week-old daughter. Before I got pregnant last year, I lost 32 pounds and looked so amazing. I surpassed my goal weight. Unfortunately, I gained 40 pounds with her and have only lost 18. I'm in love with my daughter, but I'm really having a hard time not getting discouraged by my postpartum body. I haven't lost a single pound since about 2 or 3 weeks PP and I've been exercising almost everyday for 5 weeks. I've read several different articles and sources saying I'm supposed to be eating at least 1800 calories, so I had my diary set there. I sometimes went over, sometimes ate less, so I just dropped it to 1650. My milk supply is good - no issues there since I lowered calories so I must be getting enough. Anyway, I could use some friends on here who know what it's like to feel like a stranger in their body! Please feel free to friend me!

I know just how you feel! I'm also a first time mum with a one month old. I lost about 25 lb last year before getting pregnant then put all that back on plus about 20 lb more! I'm back to taking long walks with the dogs and bubba everyday as well as restarting intermittent fasting (as I'm not breast feeding anymore as baby wouldn't latch on!). Fasting and exercising and cutting out sugar was how I lost the weight to begin with, so I hope it works again. However, I have no idea how I'm going to tone up my baby belly. My whole body felt like an empty sack after giving birth and I also feel like an alien in my own body!0

Thank you for your reply! It's so discouraging to go from a fit, toned body to a flabby one that isn't even the same kind of flabby as before. I never had a stomach (I'm a pretty solid hourglass), so a constant belly has been hard on me. Not to mention NOTHING pre-pregnancy fits. And when I say that, I mean not even my fat clothes from before I lost weight. :-(
Breastfeeding makes weight loss tricky because my body is fighting me every second and I'm not one of those lucky women who lost all her baby weight in 2 months from breastfeeding. I guess I lost that lottery. My main concern is whether or not I'll be able to lose ANY weight while breastfeeding. It doesn't look that way.
Good luck on your journey! Be sure to update and let me know how tactics from pre-pregnancy work on a mom. I'm curious if my body will respond the same!0 -
I completely empathize. My daughter is just about 3 months old and I've just returned to work. I'm also exclusively breastfeeding and am discovering that I'm clearly not one of those women who loses tons of weight while breastfeeding. Before I got pregnant I'd just completed my first half marathon and was in the best shape of my life. I felt fit and really happy with my body for the first time in my life. While I love my daughter more than anything in the world, it's been difficult adjusting to the new me. I gained about 45 lbs (I stopped weighing myself toward the end because it just made me depressed) and while I lost 25-30 of it in the first 2 -3 weeks I've pretty much plateaued since then. I started going back to the gym last week and between looking like a dumpy mess in my gym clothes and practically losing all of my fitness I'm feeling pretty bummed. To cheer myself up I bought a whole bunch of new clothes for work that actually fit me. Hopefully getting back into my old workout routine will help drop some of this weight. Don't worry! You're not alone!0

I was pretty in shape before baby, overweight, but in the best shape I had been in. I had a rough pregnancy, gained about 70 lbs. 9 months pp and have only lost about 20 of those pounds... discouraged at the moment. I find that if I lower my calories much, I have a major drop in milk production. So, I'm trying to keep an eye on what I eat, and trying to move around more... my time is very limited working full time and beginning to travel more for work, along with taking a class...exercise happens when it happens for the time being.0
