Today is the start of my second year of keto

In case you're not on my friend list, or missed it, today is my 366th day of low carb. I'm no longer actively trying to lose weight. I haven't been for a while. I dropped about 23 kg (50 lbs) over the 10 or so months I was actively working to lose weight.

Here's a basic before and after picture.

The before is not how much I weighed at the time I started. It is me around my heaviest (which is closer to 32 kg or 70 lbs from my current weight). Still, I like the comparison. In the first photo I am making bagels. I used to make bagels, bread, rolls, etc. several times a week. I wonder why I got so heavy.

Yeah, I know it's completely unsustainable. I don't think anyone could eat like that for more than a couple weeks without dying from lack of blood sugar. lol

Let's also not talk about my running or biking. Because we all know aerobic exercise is impossible when doing low carb.

Doesn't it make you "binge"? lol. :D:D Seriously well done!!

(and I say this as someone who's NOT really low carb!)

Six months is awesome. And the time does fly. When I started, a year seemed like such a long time. Heck, 6 months seemed like a long time. Now, it seems like nothing.

It felt like nothing to me after the first month. My body really likes keto. A lot. I think that even when I move up to maintenance later, that I'm still not going over 50g. I'm able to keep control and no cravings. And I exercise more than ever. It's amazing.

    Keep rocking it!

The only downside that I have found is related to other people. I discovered that most of my "social" outlets were structured around food. I've had to find ways to relate to other people around activities besides eating, as very few people are eating like I am. It's not something that can really be called bad. It's just a different thing. My family, in particular, is the kind that mostly gets together to eat. Heck, we make up fake holidays (we have like 3 thanksgivings a year) just to get together and eat.

Great job! Such a good success story.
  • great job. I do not count my days on keto but think it could be a thing for life.
I would be interested whether you think it might be something to consider.

I am considering it a life long eating style. There's no longer any weight loss reason to keep eating this way. I eat this way because it's right for my body. It seems insane, to me, to consider going back to eating the food that made such a mess of my body in the past.

It's the same for me. I don't neet to lose a lot of weight anymore but the energy I have is great and my hunger seems to have normalised.
  • Inspirational! I'm on my 3rd month now, 20 lbs down and am not looking back either. Congrats on finding control, balance, and long-life health!
