I need a little advice on this....

I only have a step counter at the moment. I used to have one that I had to measure how many inches my step was and enter that in.... but I lost that one several years ago and don't remember how many steps = a mile......
I have been using 2500 steps to a mile. I looked at some other postings here and see different numbers. Is there somewhere on the internet that says ... how many steps to a mile? Or does someone out there have a formula?
