Late at night is a killer!

I read somewhere that mice who are medicated to not sleep get really fat simply because they have to fill that awake time with something. They have more time to eat, so they eat more!

I say this because I keep late hours - my industry and social life kind of revolve around the evenings, so I'm typically home 8-9-10. And last night I got home at 10 and I was HUNGRY. I'd already mostly eaten my calories, but I had to eat something - going to bed on a growling stomach just wasn't an option. So I had a bowl of chia seed cereal and a piece of low fat cheese. Could be worse, but it was really frustrating to go over count.

Tonight I ate late too, but I had a crazy day and only managed to have a salad and some almonds, so I had an OK dinner, plus a greasy treat - fried pickles. Yum. But when you're eating lighter over all, those things taste more greasy so I only ate half the portion. I'm still under calorie count, full, and going to bed.

What to do night times when I'm hungry??? I'm never gonna be going to bed at 9pm.

Thanks all!

hmmmmmm....distract yourself, I go on the internet, research things, anything you enjoy....and eat something and then I go to bed if the temptation is too much...go workout if you are a night person too :-) if I sit and watch tv I want to snack, lol

I am just impressed with what you ate!! I work one night a week as a nurse, I do really well at work usually, but when I get home sleep deprived and hungry what I crave is baked sweets and my desire to eat healthy goes out the window! On the positive, just reading your struggle (although I think you are doing amazing!) Makes me want to do better. My next night shift is Monday so hopefully my Tuesday eating choices will go much better than last Tuesday.

beccaredE - maybe plan ahead to have fruit and toast and cheese set up for you before your shift so you can eat that as soon as you get home? Other than a bar of dark chocolate and sometimes some coconut ice cream in the freezer, we just don't keep any of that stuff in the house at all. I laud your admirable work as a nurse, but night shift nursing shifts are notorious for being bad for health - sleep, hormones, weight, etc. Take extra TLC of yourself!
