Anyone with degenerative disc disease/desiccated discs?

So, I just found out that two discs in the base of my spine are desiccated (dried out). It's causing me quite a bit of pain, and makes even unweighted squatting painful (and even the arch created when bench pressing hurts). I really want to get back to lifting, and my back issue puts me in a catch-22 -- I don't want to cause more damage to myself, but by not doing the strength training, the muscles are left to weaken, which make the situation (and the pain) worse.

Is anyone here in a similar situation? Do you modify your workouts? If so, how? Did you eventually get strong enough that the pain went away (or mostly away)? Do you have any other tips/advice?

I have facet joint arthritis in my lower back and spine. I have to do what i can to work out. Which means walking, easy exercise videos and the resistance band. I would say never push your body or you will pay. Some days i can do more than others. Your body will tell you. Sadly no matter what i do my pain is there but everyone is different. I follow some resistance band videos on youtube and they have helped in building muscle.

I also have arthritis in my spine. My neck is always bad, but it's my lower back I'm worried about lately. I have a lot of pain on the left side for no apparent reason. I think my workouts are making it worse, but I'm not sure how or what I need to change.
