I've made it 100 days!

Today marks my 100th day of recommitting to losing weight. This is the longest I have ever gone without falling off completely and resorting to my old habits. This time around, I made a few mental changes; the first being that this is NOT a diet. I took that word out of my vocabulary! I also decided NOT to deny myself the occasional splurge. I decided to eat good 80% of the time. My exercise has been slacking but my weight loss has not. As of today, I am down 41 lbs, waist from 54" to 49". I guess the biggest change has been mental. I am now enjoying my way of eating more. Yes, I still desire all of the bad stuff but it's a mental decision I make on a daily basis. I still enjoy pizza and Mexican food, just not weekly anymore. Before, it was nothing to put away 1/2 of a large supreme pizza. Now, I am good with 2 slices. If I want a doughnut, I eat one, but just one or 1/2 of one. I am more conscious of what I am eating these days. I no longer stop at McDonalds for TWO sausage, egg & cheese McMuffins. Now it's steel oats and a yogurt at home. Or a protein shake and 2 eggs and maybe turkey sausage. It's becoming easier but let me be the first to say, it's still not second nature but I hope someday it will be. It's taken mental effort every one of these 100 days to get where I am and my journey is FAR from over. My final goal is still down a long and winding road out there somewhere. But each day, I strive to make the best decisions I can. If I fail, I fail THAT DAY or THAT MEAL, I do not fail this entire journey. Because there are special occasions, family dinners, birthdays, or just days you want a damn burger. But a day is just a day and this is just ONE day in a lifetime journey.

I agree that this is primarily a mental thing. I think you are on the right track to making a true lifelong change for yourself - you deserve it. Congratulations!

What BRay325 said. I will be 100 days tomorrow and I feel the same as you. Before, I never really wanted to be successful because the food seemed more important. Today, my attitude has changed, I want to be healthy, I want the weight off and eating normal has become a pleasure not a chore. I love MFP and my friends on here, they are so supportive and I'm grateful for everyone of you.

First of all, congrats on the weight loss and keeping with the healthier lifestyle!

I also loved seeing this post since we have a lot of the same cravings for junk food!

I have to totally agree with you, it's all about taking it one day at a time. I was really feeling stressed out on Thanksgiving, then I realized that it was perfectly OK to actually EAT and go over my limit for the day. It was only a few hundred calories and a little exercise would offset that anyway.

We (wife and I) pretty much cut out fast food for months. Pizza was our number one crime. We would also sit down and eat half a pizza each (so I hear ya there). Being from Chicago though, half a pizza meant half a DEEP DISH pizza. Once we got serious about the weight loss, we decided to just cook everything ourselves (easier to track that way) and ditch all the fast food.

Now that we are seeing positive results, and have gotten better at tracking calories and exercises, we have added some fast food back into our routine, but sparingly. Like you said, sometimes you gotta have a burger (and cake, so wrong, but so good)!

BTW If cooking is something you don't mind doing, there are some really good cauliflower pizza crust recipes out there that you might want to check out. We've been using those to make homemade pizzas that fill that pizza craving without the huge calorie hit, 8^)
