Happy New Year Everyone!!

Tame Back Bulge With 4 Exercise-Ball Moves

If you don't have a stability ball do these on an exercise mat.

1 Back Extensions

Targeting key muscles with this move helps to strengthen your back while improving your posture.

• Lay your belly on a ball and find stability by spreading your legs wide and planting your toes on the floor.
• Bring your arms in front of your ball, make fists, and point your thumbs out to the sides.
• Take a breath in and, as you exhale, raise your upper torso as much as you can, so your chest comes off the ball, and lift the arms out wide. Inhale to slowly lower your torso back to the starting position. Keeping your movements slow allows you to work your abs.
• This counts as one rep. Complete three sets of 12 to 15 reps.

2 Superman Ball Lifts

Your whole back will feel the burn with this variation on the standard Superman.

• Lie on your belly, and hold an exercise ball between your feet.
• Engage your abs, and extend your arms straight out in front of you.
• As you inhale, squeeze the ball and lift your knees, arms, and chest off the floor. Hold for a count of 10, and then slowly release your body back to the floor.
• This completes one rep. Complete two sets of 10 lifts.

3 Upper-Back Lifts

Targeting key muscles with upper-back lifts helps to strengthen your back while improving your posture.

• Lay your belly on the ball and spread your legs wide and plant your toes on the floor.
• Bend your elbows and gently touch your fingertips to the back of your head. Keep your arms strong and resist the urge to rest your hands on your head.
• Take a breath in and, as you exhale, raise your upper torso as much as you can, so your chest comes off the ball. Inhale to slowly lower your torso back to the starting position. Keeping your movements slow allows you to work your abs.
• This counts as one rep. Complete three sets of 12 to 15 reps.

4 Opposite-Limb Extensions

Work your upper back and challenge your core with this balancing move.

• Lay your belly on a ball. Stabilize yourself by placing your hands underneath your shoulders and your feet hip-distance apart.
• Simultaneously lift your right arm and your left leg straight out. Hold for two seconds and then release back to the ground.
• Now lift your left arm and your right leg. Hold for two seconds and slowly release. Try to move slowly and with control. Try to keep the ball as steady as possible. Use your deep abs to help stabilize. Come back the starting position.
• This completes one rep. Repeat this move for a total of 15 to 20 reps, alternating between lifting your left arm and right leg, and then your right arm and left leg.

Do these four exercises twice.

I hope you like this one. Let me know.

Have a great start to the new year!

Chris

Chris this one looks like a nice way to warm up and stretch our muscles while engaging the core. I will follow it up with some strength training tonight. I had to use Dotty Dog as our mascot when I remembered all our chats with pom poms!

Spent the day with my DD. It was the best! She has a nasty cold that her sweet husband gave her, but she's feeling better. We shopped and had lunch and shopped some more. We had dinner at their house last night and they opened wedding gifts. They have a bunch of great friends, for sure! Some very nice gifts.

So needless to say...dun...dun...dun...today was my REST DAY!! ooohhh...poet!

We are walking tomorrow morning, and I will get our challenge done early.

I shake my pom poms as I dance off the workout floor...

    Everyone have a great Tuesday!

Chris I hope she gets better soon. My hubby came home sick. I actually fixed him dinner. Honestly I do not cook. I got in a serious half hour stretch after banging him. Fed the boys and the fish. Mandi is still slowly healing. I am happy with her progress. I discovered a new aquarium shop, only 4 hours or so away. Going to check it out later this month.

Going to go log my food.

Shelley, good for you on taking care of hubby.
Did not work out yesterday, and went over calories.
But today is a new day.

I went over also. But if I had not been logging it would have been alot instead of just barely. :)
Hubby is still sick. So I may call it a rest day. He says he is cold. But he has a fever. I also need to do a couple of water changes. And find something for him to eat. I did get in some quick walks outside. It was -30 with the wind chill. Barrett

Really, that was babying him! I hate auto correct. This time it said hanging him. But I was looking for it to say banging, so I caught hanging. Egads, hangs her head in shame. :c

SIL has a bacterial infection. Doc took him off work today and gave him drugs for 10 days. ...DD is feeling much better.

We have had some really strong ...and cold...winds the past couple of days. We lost power yesterday, and it caused computer issues. DH had to fix it twice. This morning too!!

Walked w/DD this morning. It was beautiful until the last 15 minutes when the winds started up again. We got four miles done. I'm so glad we went early. It was cold but we were fine until the end.

By the time I got ready to go to the store the wind was a full-force again!! When I got to the store, these two tiny, older ladies were coming out...when the wind hit them, the littlest one looked like she was about to fall over. Her friend caught her. Crazy. Our lavender plants are taking a beating for sure.

The kids are coming for dinner. We are celebrating Christmas and New Year's. Soup and salad.

I'm hoping to walk again tomorrow morning. Although, the gym will be open, so that's an option too.

I wish you all a very, very Happy New Year!! <3<3<3

    Chris

PS...I read that it SNOWED in Southern California!! Messed with a bunch of people in the San Bernadino Mountains! Southern Cal! Amazing!

Lynnette I logged it under cardio. It was a mini marathon! And Chris, if you are done rolling on the floor making a blubbering mess of yourself I could use some technical support. How does one turn auto correct off on her kindle fire? We will be lucky if any of the new gals stay with us after my TMI.

Hubby sais his doctor mentioned that a bacterial infection is going around here also. Hope he gets better soon.

It was negative 30 here the other day with the wind chill. Brrrrrrrrr freezing. Snow in CA. We got almost a foot in places. And a 9 car pile up. But we are not sunny CA! What gives. I am glad the ladies were ok Chris. I use the wind as an extra resistance training some days. Casper is always windy in the winter.

We are working out indoors tomorrow. Body Pump anyone?

    Happy New Year all

Still laughing...pom poms wet from tears...hubby looks over w/a strange expression on his face...moves a little further away.

Walked w/DD for 5.12 miles this morning...then got our challenge done twice with a bunch of steps in between the exercises...then worked out to Coffey-Meyers TRIM DOWN for 30 minutes, thus proving that I am totally uncoordinated. So far I have 20,254 steps.

My weigh-in this morning was a disaster :# which called for an immediate brain-change!! bwahahah! I made that up!

Thank you, Kathy, for your inspirations. I'm so glad they are back!

I hope everyone had a wonderful day!

Chris I love them all. I really enjoy the one with the flower girls. After your glowing, :d, review of them it was a lovely surprise! Lol. Now dry off them pom poms. You are making my cake soggy! Darn thing took over an hour to decorate! :kissing_closed_eyes: Awesome workout. I am still BABYING hubby. I took him to insta care. He has an upper respiratory infection and bronchitis. I did get out and walked the boys. It was a toasty 8 degrees. They ran and played and barked. Even seen some of their friends.

Chris I have been really good this week. Monday was my weigh in disaster! I am logging. Logging keeps me focused.

So I got on the scale this morning and I'm up as expected. I never trusted the 202...knew it was due to the illness. My scale now reads 205.2. That I believe. So it starts from here. I want to lose 15-20 pounds by my birthday May 26th.

The one thing I really need to do...or should say one of many...but most importantly I must start logging again. It starts today....accountability and I agree with you Shelley focus.

Raining weekend in Georgia so I'm going to workout using DVDs.

Shelley - The flower girl standing up next to DD was the one who cried. The one bent over is the brat. I hope your DH feels better. Eight degrees would surely disagree with me!! I belly ache at 60!!

Kathy - I'm glad you're feeling better. Logging really does help. It make you think about what you're going to eat. DD and I did it at lunch today. We have the MFP app on our phones. We had done soup and half a sandwich last week. I looked up the calorie count of the half sandwich I had ordered then and about died! Never again! I chose very wisely today, and it was delicious!

Walked with DD this morning...we shopped...had lunch...went to the book store...then I got our challenge done twice through and 20,318 steps so far. I'm happy. I couldn't do Coffey-Meyers again because I was way too sore from yesterday. :'(

I'm going to do the same thing tomorrow!! Maybe we'll be doing the gym. The gym parking lot was maxed out this morning!! We may just stick to walking. bwahahaha!

I hope everyone has a great Saturday. Stay focused, ladies! No junk food...no trigger food!

Kathy I am with you. I am having a cheat meal tomorrow. One a week. Scouts honor. You will get to onederland by logging everything!

Chris you are smart to check all foods. I like to plan before I go. Otherwise I crash and burn. Sorry you are so sore.

I did our challenge once. Hot tubbed since hubby feels a little better. Worked today. Also took my Cooper to the vets. Seems he somehow snapped off one of his toenails. Poor little guy. They bandaged it up. In two days he gets it off. Our kitty is not doing so good. I think it is time for DH to start coming to terms that he can not live forever. Whiskers is 24 now. Still two shots a day of insulin. He is losing weight. And now he has blood in his stool. DH is going to talk to the vet about him tomorrow. :pensive:

Chris sorry you are sore. Soreness is weakness leaving the body!

Thanks, Shelley...I'm better today. I'm so sorry that your pup and kitty are feeling poorly. It's so hard. :(

I got 4 miles done in 62 minutes by myself this afternoon. It was beautiful outside today. Cold but beautiful. DD was working on her dissertation this morning and afternoon. The second phase starts this coming Tuesday, and she had to finish phase one. The wedding was a bit of a distraction for her, I'd say!! Also, I got our challenge done twice and have 20,090 steps so far. I was going to do a Cathe DVD...Backs, Biceps and Shoulders,...just got it...but the workout is 52 minutes. I'm planning to do it tomorrow.

The kids have a dinner date with their best friends, so we have Bean for a few hours. It's too dark to do anything outside after 5:30, so we'll just play in the house.

My food is right on...no trigger food or junk food...got my exercising done...I think I'll read for a bit!

Hope you all have a great Sunday. It's my last day off. Winter Break is officially over tomorrow...back to work on Monday. :'(

    However...86 days to retirement!! :D;)

I totally agree with the logging and accountability. My log used to be a simple breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks breakdown. However I changed it to 4hr increments instead. Now I can see if I am eating junk/ sugar in the same time frame each day. This will help me plan healthy snacks for those times and to stay away from that snack machine at work.

Seems like we all had a bit of a "holiday" backslide. We will get it off in no time girls.

Rest day today for me. I did make sure to get in my 10k steps and managed to get Christmas packed and put away. Kinda early for me but I have just been so bah humbug this holiday season.

Should be warmer and hopefully drier here tomorrow. Looking forward to a walk outside and some fresh air. Taking the kids to the movies and dinner also so I will be making some good choices at dinner. No snacks at the theater for me.

    Good night ladies

My BFF and I walked 2 miles this afternoon and played with her 2 grandsons (7 & 11 months) on the playground. I also made a healthy beef vegetable soup in the crockpot so I will have lunch when I return to work on Tuesday.

It was a good day. Back to Tennis practice on Tuesday...our team has a match on Sat.

    Have a good Sunday everyone,

Got 4.8 miles done w/DD this morning then spent 52 minutes on Cathe's DVD Back, Biceps & Shoulders. Pretty soon my arms aren't going to work any more because they are jelly right now!! Excellent workout. I still need 3000 steps to hit 15,000. I have to go grocery shopping and make soup for next week then I'll work on getting them done.

    86 days!

I hope everyone has a fun rest of Sunday and a great Monday!
