Has anyone had any luck with intermittent fasting? (Eating all of your calories for the day within an 8 hour time span and then fasting for 16?)

Interestingly I was reading about it in our old church magazine last night and wondered how I missed the article. I think the science has some sense because I do remember some years ago (10+ years) when I was watching my weight and never ate anything after 6pm (as advised by a dear friend who practiced same). Usually next morning I ate around 10 -11am (just cos I am not a morning person), I did loose quite a bit of weight. I still ate chocolate, my normal food e.t.c I did not count calories just being mindful not to over eat. I never did understand how I managed to loose weigh (I was never hungry except late evenings) until I read the article last night and had an "ahah I wonder if" moment. Like a lot of people I got lazy and defaulted to eating anyhow anytime and here I am.
+ Another friend told me that his mum does similar does not eat after 4pm (don't remember exact start time for her eating but I remember 4pm cos I wondered what she did for supper  ) It looked like it worked for for her because she did not look like a grandma (the son told me about the regime when I commented how young his mum looked).

Thank you for your input. I have been eating this way for the past few weeks, added some time in the gym, and have managed to lose more weight than I expected. I try to eat between 11 and 7 only.
