Oh Lawdy Month 2...

So I tried to start Month 2, the Max Interval Circuit today and barely made it through the first ten minutes. Maybe that inbetween break was too relaxing and rejuvenating.

I've been looking forward to turning October into my designated month for Round 2 of Insanity but DEAR LAWDY, that FIRST DAY. 60 minutes of jumpin and kickin and droppin to do more jumpin and kickin.

Oi. I wonder if my exhaustion could be coming from the fact that I started up a new diet this week also. I'm trying the Induction Week of Atkins since my parents keep recommending it to shape up for the holiday months. The induction week basically takes away all your carbs from you, even vegetables like corn and any and all fruits are out.

My second day without carbs, I wonder if it's part of the reason that I feel so gassed during Month 2 of insanity?

Any ideas?

Maybe Month 2 is just REALLY INSANE! And that's all there is to it!

  • This post is three months old, but I hope you've been successful. As I'm sure you learned from experience or research, low carb high fat is too taxing on the body to sustain Insanity workouts.

Lots of research indicates that humans can live full healthy active lives without carbs. There is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate; and conventional research in nutrition has long ago asserted that the minimum daily carbohydrates a human requires is zero.

However, the induction phase is rather taxing on your system, and the transition from carbs to fat as your primary fuel source is uncomfortable to say the least. Headaches, weakness, fatigue, confusion, and reduced stamina are just some of the symptoms people endure during this transition. So, placing all of this additional strain on your body while introducing advanced athlrtic demands will overwhelm you.

Ketogenic diets will help you lose weight, and are associated with a multitude of health benefits. Carbohydrates are generally reccomended if you regularly engage in vigorous cardio.

There are endurance athleates on ketogenic diets, as well as weight lifters trying to put on extra muscle, but they are in the minority. Unless medically prescribed to treat Alzheimer, Parkinsons, or epilepsy, most people on ketogenic diets are active individuals seeking effective weight loss methods.

So, all of that should give you some idea why month two was so hard. You gave your body the equivalent of staying up all night then straping on chest weights before your workout.

Some can definitely complete Insanity and Asylum on less than 30 carbs/day. You may even be one of them. But, to find out, you should have a solid foundation of vigorous cardio whilemaintaining a ketogenic state.

I'm curious to learn what you decided, but it seems like the only way to be successful here would be to stop the cardio, and reintroduce it very slowly after the induction phase; perhaps replacing it with strength training. Or, the more common advice would be to eat the carbs your body uses to fuel these explosive moves Insanity demands.

    Good luck!
