So day 10 of Whole 30. I'm finding it very interesting as to how this is still improving my hunger awareness and control. I'm doing an n=1 this morning, with T3, Keto Force 20 ml, MCT oil 20 ml, BCAA 7g 2:1:1, and Taurine 3g supplementation. After clean carb loading yesterday following my Thursday 24 hr fast, Fasted morning Glucose was 87 Fri and 90 this morning Followed T3 with Jens Jaunt, and Glucose down to 77, Took the rest of the supplements as a stack in 1 L of water, 30 min later Glucose at 88 1 hr later at 84. Fixing to do a light weight work out (heavy Lift day tomorrow) and see where it is then. Will eat around noon for 15 hr fast from last night. and check it 2 hrs later.
  • Susan, I've never heard of the Well Fed cookbooks. Looks like I'm on a quest now. :)

Jennifer, I use my Well Fed cookbooks all the time. Just today I stocked my freezer with the Czech Meatballs and Moroccan Meatballs. Had some of the Moroccan ones over Coconut Cauliflower Rice for supper. Melissa Joulwan is the author and she has a website at theclothesmakethegirl.com. I believe all but maybe 4 or 5 recipes are whole 30 compliant.

Yay for discovering new spices! Have you guys tried Cardamon yet? It goes really well with a lot of "warming spices"
In the East we view food as kind of a medicine. You heal through food and herb and spices plays a HUGE role.

Heron, there is Cardamon in the Coconut Cauliflower Rice I made today. That is the first time I used it. It smelled so good while cooking that I couldn't wait to taste it. People always tell me that eating the way I do is so restrictive, but I see it as just the opposite. Since I started eating Paleo/Primal I have discovered so many new foods and spices that I would have never thought of using. I have also learned that I LOVE to cook.

This goes out to all of you...

Thank you so much for the support. It was this group that made the decision easier. I was chatting with Jen on Friday after work and we were saying how this group is. I may have referred to us as a "ragtag group of awesomeness" and meant it in the best possible way. I adore the fact that we have such a wonderful mix of people here. Different stages, approaches, reasons… in the journey to health. I love the honesty. I personally draw strength from each of you and yes, even from the struggles. Some days that is just what keeps me pushing forward.

For me, it is important to share my story. Although sometimes I have come across people’s understanding of these kind of ED’s resemble something from a bad made for tv movie. I would say it is a mix of habit, addiction, worth and a fascination/love for health and fitness… Whether it is abstaining or overindulging, there are similarities between them. I think many of us share in having those days where we say “tomorrow I will make the right decision…tomorrow I will have control over this…I am stronger than this”…onto the days of…”why can’t I be at peace with this?...knowing what I know, why do I keep struggling?”... and then some days it is all about just pushing the thoughts away to simply get through the day. There are times when mindfulness is really hard.

Thanks again for listening. I feel great about the decision and feel stronger for it. It’s great to be viewing this eating and workout thing with the goal of being happy. I want to nourish my body and do activities that make my soul happy. The weight thing would be a bonus and will happen over time:)

OMG... A handful of people at my work were trying to get me to "live a little" as they passed around the chocolate cake and I said no thanks. We were at a table and I was trying to downplay this to the 10 people and the nice guy who had spent so much on this beautiful cake. All eyes on me. Come on, come one, etc. I finally told them I couldn't because I was doing Whole30. (This is a new work group and I really try not to talk about all the weight loss stuff.) So the OMG part is that a few of them are considering doing it for Lent. WOW! What a great thing!

AAAAANNNNND: It inspired me to see if anyone wanted to walk after work on Mondays. Need to get in my jaunt anyway. FIVE people said yes out of 14. That is a crazy good response.

Susan it made me think of your two coworkers. Isn't this the best way to have a positive influence on others. Just example. They know and I know that I'm going back to artificial sweeteners but it gave us all a chance to talk about eliminating some of these things for a while to reset and perhaps go to MUCH less of them in the future.

I know I'm not legit on Whole30 because I will weight myself 3 times in the 30 days for that other challenge but I feel FANTASTIC about some of the changes I've been able to stick to. And I really feel good/healthy right now.

Kim: HAahahahah.. cumin. Growing up hispanic, it is a staple. Although my sister refuses to use it as it smells like body odor to her. lol

Kris, I'm glad this community can be a help to you. :) And I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that you've been a big motivator and huge support as well.

Carol, good job on the cake battle, and turning people to our side! I know you said that become "that person" at work, but this time, it looks like you may have recruited some folks to be "those people" right along with you. The first time I used cumin for a Robb Wolf recipe, I took a wiff and thought, "Man, that kinda smells like BO... Wait a minute. That's the stuff in taco seasoning!" I love cumin, now.

Growing up Hispanic (which makes it sound like you somehow converted from it), I know you've got a good recipe for taco seasoning that you wouldn't mind sharing. :)
  • Kris, I'm so glad that you have found the support here in this community (I know I have). And we are a 'ragtag group of awesomeness'. We all found are way here, not necessarily in the best places in our lives and found each other.

Carol, good for you! It's amazing to me how people are always pushing you to eat something even if you don't want to. It doesn't even have to be sweets, just food in general. People see you losing weight and they think you're sick. Everything in our society revolves around food. Why is it necessary to have donuts at a work meeting? Sorry for the rant. You did awesome, Carol. Get those people walking. Tell them Jen said to get up and jaunt!!!

Kris- I am so glad you feel like you're getting support from this group! I sure get a lot from you!

On being that person at work or in life. I try not to preach at people, but I definitely post stuff on social media all the time about my lifestyle changes ( for those following along this is my Twitter or Instagram name also...I use Instagram a lot, as in the amount of pics I post may make you unfollow me as quickly as you follow me - but it is my fave social media). Folks at work also see how I eat, how I scorn traditional cardio, my sleep over everything way of thinking, they know I meditate. So they all know I am that person without me saying anything about their choices.

    But.....

I often feel like a fraud. Because the real changes this last year have been on the inside, and not overly visible ( in my opinion) to the world. Folks had no idea how many meds I took, or the constant stream of medical tests, or how I generally felt like crap, was in pain most of the time. Now all that is gone, I feel great...but no doubt to others I still look like I need to lose weight, so how can I tell anyone anything- or worse cause people to think these changes don't work because of my body fat. I wrote about this a bit on my consultation form with AJ. I hired her because I was ready for the outside to match the inside, so I can be a stronger advocate for these lifestyle and even way of eating(but honestly more the sleep, stress, move lifestyle stuff).

All of which has nothing to do with Whole30...

Kim Yes it does, it is about the lifestyle, and it is about the feeling good both in and out. I have many of the same issues. Still a bit too big around the waist, even though my blood markers (except Hba1c) are in an exceptional range. Even that is at a level that falls within the accepted normal limits. My BF% is below 25 and for my age that is supposed to be fantastic. Yet its still not good enough. I am way past worrying much about aesthetics to please others, (I respect the pressure that females have about that) My age and my work has given me some pretty good perspective.
Not everybody that has type 2 Diabetes is obese or even overweight, (it's easy to lose sight of that in our common podcast world) though most who are (Obese) do have it or the precursors of it. I have patients that look the picture of good health that are demented beyond the point of recognizing their families. I have Wheel Chair Athletes that were active and athletic when they came down with MS and ALS, but are still determined to compete.
I guess the point I'm making for all of us is life is hard, it is unfair, but the challenges, the learning through failure, and the rewards are magnificent. So when you look in the mirror and see the need to continue the battle, know that you (and really all of us here) are one of the 10-20% who choose to face the inner fat demon head on, spit in its eye and fix bayonets on the no gun 'cause the fight is gonna be hand to hand.

Carol - Had similar results last year with my boss of all folks. Got her interested and it has changed her life as well. Still struggles, but the change is for the good, The first Tuesday of every month I have to turn down homemade cake from my little ol ladies from the American legion Auxiliary that come to do our monthly Birthday Party, I don;t always win that fight. and I don't see stepping on the scale as a major impingement of whole 30 with the knowledge you have, the key is separating the emotion from the number. I think you got that. Keep on Jammin'!

Kris - There are many ways to fight the battle and be the warrior we all know you are. Whole 30 is just one tool in the box, keep lettin us all know how it goes and you know if you need help we all have willing ears. I have to say I'm quite proud to be in the Rag Bag with this "ragtag group of awesomeness".

Anyway Workout went great today, upped my weights. and added battle Ropes til exhaustion at the end of the session. Got 2 30 sec max effort intervals in with 10 ssec rest between and 21 sec into the third. Absolutely no glycogen left. boom.

All Righty Then! Nearly There Folks! Who's still hanging in there? If you've made it this far you have this weekend to look forward to BIG TIME. Except big time may not be a good idea. Go on give yourself a treat eat some of what you've missed most and enjoy it.

Re introduction - Do it one thing at a time and give yourself a bit of time between groups. Separate things by category, Whole Grains, Simple Grains, Processed Grains, Dairy, Fermented Dairy, etc... If you suspect any of the categories was problematic, re intro it later in the process.

    Keep a log.

    Enjoy your food.

I am still going strong on the Whole 30! Feeling good and looking forward to weighing myself Sunday morning. I may reintroduce dairy, or I may just keep going and do a Whole 60. Really, cheese is the only thing that I really missed.

Weigh in day today. Since January 1 I have lost 15.8 lbs on the Whole 30. Thanks to everyone for inspiring me to finally attempt a Whole 30.

That's great! I don't remember my exact starting weight, but I lost right at 15lbs, too. Feeling great! I went off course a little over the weekend, but I will continue to eat this way, for a while. I think it was really what I needed to get me back on track. My will power has been so strong, these last few weeks, and I'm super proud of myself, and everyone who joined!
