Tell us how the mountain climbing goes Mark!0
-
LOL Mark. Hmm, I like that. My girls all have to find ways to get along. So far, so good. No broken firing pins or scratched slides (yet). Hehehe.... My 75BD is my USPSA pistol (when I get back to doing it - only run a couple matches so far).
Best of luck with the mountain climbing. A mountain to me is the stairs at work.
Thanks Carol. You are way too sweet.....0 -
HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYS to our gal Jen (or as I affectionately call her: Slimmy McSlimmerson)!! Sending a load of cheers, a bundle of hugs & a box of virtual suspenders to keep those britches up, Girl! Xoxo ~ DebSue0

It is a 30 to 40 percent incline, so pretty steep. I went a bit over 1/2 way up and called it good for now. When I get good it takes about 45 minutes of steady hiking (no snow) to get to the top. The nice thing is that it is all on my property. Saw four Cow Elk too, and the dogs are much happier now.0
-
Mark, very envious right now. That sounds like so much fun! How often do you get out and hit the mountain?
Did 4.44 miles today on the road
8:12
8:21
8:26
8:20
last leg was a little faster .44 miles at 8:05 pace
36:53 total 8:18/mi
Looking forward to short intervals tomorrow.
Been eating same ol' same ol'. Chicken, broccoli, eggs, bacon, brussel sprouts, almonds, raisins, bananas...That basically rounds out my diet. Did chicken today on top of a bed of broccoli, and I'll finish the day off with more of the same and a glass of wine .
Happy birthday Jen!0 -
Not as often as I like, or should. Last time was about a month ago. Just got lazy and stressed, so stopped. I like to hit it at least once a week, twice is better. Have to work on adding the pack when I get better. Awesome job on the running!0

Mark, CZ is introducing a 1911 this year. Maybe you should pick one up to calm the tension!
I feel like it's been a while since I posted...
I've been doing well. Still truckin along on the Whole30. I had slow cooker pork loin over mashed butternut squash, today. Man, is butternut squash filling! I didn't even finish my bowl.
My calves are starting to tone up, from all this walking! And, I'm starting to feel burn in whatever that muscle under your armpit is from doing push-ups each day, as suggested by someone here. I think it was Kim.0 -
This is me ranting....
What is with people and commitments?
I am a calendar gal. I put it in on my calendar and I am committed to it. If I'm not sure I will tell the person that the appointment is tentative, and a date when that appointment would be confirm.
I've experienced and hear that a lot of people my generation or younger seems to be incapable of understanding the concept of appointments and commitments. Is it just me? Or is it a California thing? Arggh
Takeaways..,,
Trust my gut.
I hate flakes who lies.
Always get paid upfront unless you really really trust that someone.
Be polite but direct.
Thank you for reading, it's either this or a trip to the kitchen that I'll probably regret. I haven't felt like this in a loooooooooong time, hormonal + frustration + recovering sugar addict is not a good mix.

Kim, I have the same concept with you for the burners but just a little different. As in I want multiple cooking platforms. Like I said I want induction since it extremely efficient and transfer heat instantly. But I want a stand alone gas burner. I don't know if you've seen those 50,000 BTU burners that "roars" when you turn them on lol. I miss stir frying the proper way. And that has to be outside because we will never install industrial exhaust system.
Residence in Singapore are usually in a L shape. Kitchen is the horizontal and living quarters is the vertical part of the L. And every kitchen comes with an actual exhaust fan install on the wall. So when we cook the whole house won't be smokey.
And omg you totally get the marble dough area. you are the first person that gets the dough area (besides Arturo)lol. Awwwww. I hope we meet someday, we seem to like the same things0 -
Wednesday morning and trying to get caught up on all of the SHOT Show postings. I am really going to have to make next year happen, just so I can say I was there. Until then, I'll just enjoy the information everybody is providing.
Thank you again to everybody for the birthday wishes. It was a great day but nothing all that special. No big parties, no eating cake and ice cream, no presents. Just some range time and a lot of 'me' time. Back to work today, unfortunately. Oh well. Two more days this week, some intro to firearms training with a friend of mine on Friday followed by an appearance on some podcast (can't remember the name of it at the moment - hehehe). Going to finish out the week strong.

Really miss my Marble dough island. Not that I am making bread and pasta any more. I cook with gas and cast iron, and am dreading moving back into town where everything seems to be electric. I forsee some house modifications already!!
heron, not just a CA thing as you will find that all over the country. I would say that part of that is generational, however I have found that to be incorrect as well.0 -
Mark, So, so jealous of your mountain. I discovered last year that I really enjoy hiking/walking up things. First it was discovering the hills of the neighborhood south of us (for four years I'd walked in our flatter area, now I go out of my way to walk the steeper sections across the road). Then on one biz trip I was staying in downtown ATempe AZ, and noticed people walking up "A" Mountain on the ASU campus. Do it everyday if I'm there. Later I found a hiking/biking path up South Table Mountain close to the hotel I stay in when I visit Golden/Denver CO. So good for you (and good for the booty I believe)
Heron - with you on folks who either don't respond to appt invites, or respond and then don't show up. I cannot imagine doing that. And, like Mark not entirely convinced its generational. Maybe a little...but I also see that behavior across generations, the common ground seems to be an inflated sense of personal worth and importance (as in my time is more important than yours).
You asked about my presentations.....the Monday one (legal officer) was moved to today as she was ill. But the CFO one, and head of our department ones went really well. CFO said she's all in. Head of our dept (we report into HR - she's our Chief People officer) also on board. Things looks good.
For those very observant folks that noticed my use of "she" repeatedly...4 of our "C" level people at MillerCoors are female - CFO, Chief Legal, Chief People and Chief IT. Its something I'm intensely proud of...not common in business period, let alone beverage alcohol companies, or beer.
And YES Heron, I do hope we meet some day...PaleoFX?????
On train now heading to Chicago HQ, that last meeting plus other meetings. Day trip down and back via Amtrak.0 -
Down a pound after being stalled out completely after Christmas. Might have something to do with the fact that I have not been eating right just been hard to stay on track lately but I have been trying to push my carbs to the evenings and limiting my sugar to as little as possible.
SHOT show is looking great. Magpul is hitting it out of the ballpark again. And I am dying to build a mid-long range AR. Like a MK 12 clone.0 -
Mark, if gas isn't available where you're moving, my uncle built a house a few years ago, and he put in a stove that runs on propane. Not the big tanks you have in the yard, but there's a bottle under his cabinet. I don't know if it's a modification, or a factory feature, though.0
-
Kim, awesome news about the presentations. Also totally awesome that MillerCoors has so many women in top positions. Girls rule!0

TJ.. great idea! Actually pretty simple to do, just an adapter needed and common. Most of the places have natural gas/Propane water heaters and furnaces, so just a matter of getting a line run. Not too bad as I have had it done before. House before this one was fuel oil heat, electric water heater/cooking. Put in Propane furnace and ran two extra lines to fix that situation. I will keep the tank idea in mind as an option.
There is a really nice hiking trail west of Tempe that is awesome. A little drive and a parking area. I go there when I visit Mesa/Tempe. I even figured out how to get around all the traffic..0 -
Good morning everybody. Thursday, so the last day of the week for those of us doing the FB challenge. Not feeling as good about this week as I have the last two. I've been getting all of my points (well except exercise) but just not quite feeling. Today I'm getting taken out to lunch for my bithday, so no idea what I'll be having. I'll do my best to choose a healthy option and drink lots of extra water.

Good Morning and Happy Thursday Folks!
Have Fun Jen !
Koo-EL stuff Kim, Sounds like Miller Coors is a very good company, and getting to ride the train is a treat indeed.
Heron - Pretty much on board with all your Kitchen Ideas. I like the marble dough spot idea as well, I have a marble rolling pin, can see the marble dough area do you want it lower because it's easier for you to work the dough? I tend to elevate this sort of thing cause I find higher easier for me than standard counter height.
Well folks It is already shaping up to be a grand day. I have been off work this week and return tomorrow. I took some vacay to wrestle with a demon I've been dealing with for 48 years. I believe I have finally killed it. But it has risen up from the ashes before so it's with caution that I say I'm pretty sure I have finally done it. I have been smoke free since Saturday, and not just smoke free, no nicotine gum, patches, or other sub. Done with it. I want to thank all of you and each of you, this group as both individuals, and the group as a whole have been and continue to be an inspiration and motivator for me. Keep it up keep moving forward folks,0 -
Jen, I hear you on just not feeling it this week. I haven't lost any points but I just don't feel as "tight" or dialed in this week. Two days of catered lunches that I've had to pick around. Which really isn't an excuse. Kinda scared for the scale, even if I've not gone crazy on total calories or nothing. Just blah. Must be the no chocolate0
-
Where the hell did my second paragraph go?0
-
John, thank you and congratulations on stopping smoking! Keep on it! It's one of the most difficult things you can do and I commend you for trying again. Go slow and just think about the health benefits.
Kim, I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling this way. It's weird. I'm not sure why because I haven't really done much different. A couple days I really didn't eat all that much actually. Maybe we'll both be surprised tomorrrow. I'll get back out jaunting tomorrow after the weigh in. 15 miles to go before the end of the month.0 -
John. Great job on the smoking! Hopefully the smoke bugs you / repulsed you feeling sets in soon. When I quit in 98 (after smoking 20years) I went from smoke making me want a cigarette to smoke repulsed me to smoke just irritated me to now being able to be around it but it bothering my throat/ eyes if too much. I also had to give up coffee for awhile as it was a trigger. Ditto drinking. And riding in the car. And.... It's funny all the triggers of mindless grab a cigarette you discover. And I think it takes a full year to get past them. Be strong you can do it.
Mark - do you know trail name in Tempe? I usually visit our distributor once or twice a year down there (they are in Mesa, I stay in Tempe). I know about the Botanic Garden (love gardens) and Papago park but haven't hiked Papago (spelling??)0 -
Papago is one option, and a bit closer. I do not know the spot, but it is part of South Mountain, and the entrance is on the Chandler side rather than the South Central Ave. one. There is even a service that will take you to these places. Some do the hike through, so they will drop off and then pick you up at the other side.0
-
Good job John, keep at it!
I have had a good week so far, back to skipping breakfast except for my coffee or tea and heavy cream. That takes some getting used to, and I keep finding candy but just in the evening so hopefully that's not hurting me much. I have been alternating between feeling famished in the evening or just not even feeling hungry. Kind of weird but I am trying to stick to "the plan"0 -
Hi all I am new to the group and things are going well I have been doing the slow carb diet for a little over a week now and have lost five pounds!0

Hello and welcome to the group. This is a great group with some amazing people who are very motivating.
Awesome to hear you are having success. Hope you will stop in and keep us informed on your progress. I've only been here about 2 months but I find that the interactions with others helps me each day stick to my plain and stay motivated.0 -

Welcome and sounds like you are off to a good start! Not sure I know what slow carb is, care to explain and tell us what you are doing?0 -
Welcome Tom (guessing that's your name)!
Is slow carb Tim Ferris' four hour body plan? Been thinking about pushing my hubby towards that.0 -
So much for running...8 inches of snow. COME ON NEW MEXICO! Anyway, diet is solid. Stay strong!0
