Blood Test Results

I promised that I would post my blood test results, no matter how they came out. And, I will. I know some of you aren't in the keto group, so I figured I would post it here. Now, I am happy with my results. My doctor is not so happy. She's concerned about how high the total cholesterol and LDL are. The best part, she wants to retest in 3-4 months! That means I don't have to wait a whole year for another lipid test. Yay. LOL, I intend to make no changes. I wonder if she'll try and recommend a statin if/when the cholesterol itself doesn't come down. I wouldn't take it, of course.
My total cholesterol and LDL-(calc) are up. The last full test I had, I had a total cholesterol of 168. This is lower than my typical reading of 200-210 (from when I give blood). But, the test I had Wednesday was the highest of all. My TC was 250. The LDL-(calc) was 176. On their own, these numbers seem really bad. But, they aren't a concern of mine at all. After the nurse called me to tell me about these aberrant results, my first question was, "What were my triglycerides?" Those were a 71. That's fantastic! My next question was, "What's my HDL?" That's a 60. Both of those are an improvement over my numbers from last year (139 and 53, respectively).
The number which concerns me most is Trigs/HDL. A ratio under 2 is ideal. My current ratio is 1.2. My old one was 2.6, which is not bad but it's not great either. So, my cholesterol itself might be up, but my lipid profile is well improved.
For the most part, the rest of my numbers were right in the expected ranges. There's not a whole lot to comment on. No deficiencies, nothing that massively stands out. Overall, I'm happy with the results. This is after over a year of low carb, and almost 8 months of zero-carb.
Edit: To celebrate my results, I had a nice 27.3 oz steak dinner.

That's such good data. My trigylcerides were way down, overall cholesterol about the same, and my LDL was also up. My doc wants to retest later this month (3 months), but I want to push it out another month since I just got started on LCHF. Today is day 9.
Personally, I think your keto just has those numbers in flux. With the good numbers and ratios improving, seems like you're on the correct path. You just have to wait for your body to finish flushing all the bad stuff it is dumping as you burn the hell out of all that stored fat and level out... Just my gut reaction, considering my own numbers/experiences, too.
That all being said, there is no way in hell I'm getting on cholesterol meds unless it is literally killing me. Science and medicine know too little about all the direct relationships in these things, as well as how one number can cause a domino effect. I'd wait the process out...reevaluating every few months if necessary, because heaven knows we're always a work in process. As long as the numbers are moving in the right direction, I say you're on the right track.0 -
It is possible my diet has my numbers in flux, but I doubt it. I've been doing it for over a year and I am not actively working on losing (am still losing slowly).
I am not at all worried. The numbers are great. The high total and LDL-calc don't worry me. With low triglycerides, LDL-calc is often miscalculated and skews high. The fact is that most of the stuff we were told about cholesterol is just not supported by science.
I also will refuse a statin, if recommended. It would be counter-productive to my health goals to take one.0
