New to my fitness pal

Hello, I am new to all this, the fitness pal app and doing the LCD..I was recently diagnosed with diabetes and I was avoiding that at all cost because it is dominate in my family, I have been active wit fitness using the C25k. I started that almost a year ago. And now it is challenging for me to make better and healthier choices of eating. This is where a friend of mine recommended me here, my fitness pal. She also decided that she will travel this journey with me on a LCD. She is somewhat knowledgeable on LCD, but not so much and she lives 2 and half hours from me. So I am starting from the bottom and working my way up with this. I know that my carbs are a big deal, so I was told to keep my carbs at 20 to 50 a day? So I need information where to start and what I need to do. I'm kind of lost right now and need some guidance and information. Thanks for taking the time to read this..
