My hip joints are aching so badly that it reminds me of bursitis. I'm only in my third week of my ketogenic Diet and wonder if that has anything to do with it. Anyone else experience this?

I found my aches and joint pain completely diminished as one of happy responses to this diet.

This doesn't sound related to LCHF/Ketogenic diets. Could you be eating far too much purine heavy proteins? Are you prone to Gout or had Bursitis before?

Like others at 3 weeks was when my joint pain was much better, not worse. Now where your diet is at issue would be hard to know. About anything can happen in a diet as we are all different. Let us know if it gets better or worse.

I know grains can cause inflammation, so it stands to reason that reducing or eliminating grains could reduce the joint-pain causing inflammation. Just another perspective.

May I offer one other thing which could be going on for some people. For several years I've been treated for gout a condition caused by excessive levels of uric acid in the blood causing deposits of uric acid crystals to form in various joints. Mine has been controlled with medication and I've had no major flairs for 4 years or so.

The pain of gout is not caused by the deposits themselves but by the body's reaction to the deposits, out of control inflammation. The body's defenses go crazy when the deposits change size. Medication dropped my UA levels to a point with which my deposits didn't grow (or only grew very slowly) and so the flairs went away although the lumps remained in my hands and feet.

A T2 diagnosis convinced my to limit carbs and bring my weight down. By mid October reduced weight had eased the pain in my arthritic knees and I was able to walk further and at a faster pace than I have in years. A couple weeks later I started feeling the familiar flairs in my big toes and fingers (this getting old stuff is not for sissies) so I eased back on the walking and the flairs subsided. All the books tell me that inflammation can be caused by deposits breaking up as well as growing but I had not experienced it myself.

In December I began following this forum and got even more serious about controlling both carbs and protein. In December I had blood work done which showed that blood glucose levels were being controlled and also that my UA levels were the lowest since first tested 4 years ago. I got a handwritten note from my arthritis doc telling me I was doing a great job.

In any case I hope anyone experiencing joint paint finds it to be a temporary condition. I would also caution anyone not to "work through it." Do what you can to ease it. Find and eliminate possible causes but if it goes on too long get help. Damaged joints don't get better.

Some people have joint pain from increase in dairy on this diet. No link, but in all the reading I've been doing about keto, I've seen this discussion quite a few times.
