Hi everyone, I have a lot of weight to lose.....more than half my current body weight and I'm hoping to do well on the 5:2 diet. Previously I've not lasted a day on a diet, it feels like as soon as I can't have something then I start craving it.
But I'm determined to succeed this time, the 5:2 diet looks like it will be good for me and my fasting days will be Monday and Tuesday.
I think on my fasting days I'm going to just drink until around 5:30 - 6pm and then have a 500 cal meal.
please add me as I'll need support but I also want to support others :)

Welcome, this is a great group of people and so supportive. Glad you decided to give 5:2 a go, definitely worth it! We have a weekly post on here too that's really supportive! Hope to see you around :)

    Hi Mallow and welcome.
I've only just joined this group and it is really open, honest and supportive. There are so many people on here who are succeeding with 5:2.
Stick around and you'll do great!

Wait, are you putting your fasting days next to each other? Why would you do that?

I do fast two days in a row because it works better with my personality.

@MallowBrain‌ since you are just starting out you may want to separate your fast days until you start to feel comfortable with fasting, unless you know yourself and know you would have a better chance of success with back to back fast days.

I do back-to-back occasionally if that's the best way to fit it into a week, but I couldn't do that permanently. That's what so great about this way of eating - you fit it to you!
  • Since I try to work out on my fasting days, I have to eat something in the morning. I keep it under 200 calories - a simple fruit and soy milk smoothie with some fresh spinach works. I just drink the rest of the day to save the calories for dinner.

I think back to back would suit me better as I know once they are done that's it for a bit, nice to hear what everyone does. What do people tend to eat on the fasting days?

Fasting day - I aim to not have any a lories at all from bedtime the night before until dinner (6pm) but tend to have a cup of black tea for b/fast then an so cube at 2pm ish. Dinner will be a homemade soup/broth or veg stir fry. And that's it. 200-300cals.

Welcome - happy to offer whatever support I can. I would recommend separating the fast days as well. I personally found the first couple of weeks REALLY hard. But I can handle it much better now. But hey - if it works, do it. But if it's too hard, don't toss it in - try separating the days and get used to living with hunger 2 days a week.

On fast days, I have a home made cappuccino in the morning (100 cal), 200 for lunch and the remainder for dinner/supper. At first I used Country Garden soups, and no added sugar ice cream with berries as a dessert. I actually use ice cream a lot. The right soft serves are about 150-200 calories and make a great lunch  After a while, my appetite and sweet tooth changed, and now I'll often have some (leftover) lean meat and steamed vegetables/salad. I'll usually include some Olive Oil on my salad. My philosophy is, if I'm going to be hungry, I may as well treat myself with something delicious - hence the coffee and ice cream. Nutrition can come on the other five days.

Wow that's really low cals well done, I was thinking of stir fry too. I can have a lot of it for little calories

Treating yourself on fast days makes sense, and yes if I find back to back too hard I'll definitely try splitting them up

My daughter was reading over my shoulder and she said the dog looked far too small to need to lose weight, or was it just a really tiny bench!!

I did my first fast last week, my third will be tomorrow. It may be beginners enthusiasm but I have found it enjoyable- not easy, but rewarding and more in control than ever regarding eating. And to me, being in control of eating and that much more mindful is a huge step in the right direction. Good luck fasters
