We made it through another week!
How was your week last week?? Mine got rough in the middle, but started out and ended great!
I made over half my goals, so I am happy with that....and lost another pound so I am moving in the right direction anyway....
My goals for this week are:
1. Follow a proper morning hydration routine
2. Post on this thread every day
3. Log my food six days this week (But still be mindful of what I eat on my day off)
4. Get to the YMCA three times
5. Make my 10 thousand steps every day, and try for my 20K step badge on Thursday
I will be staying up a bit later this week, since I can sleep later, my son is on exams....so another goal will be to not eat crap when I am up past regular bedtime, and go to bed once I realize I am tired and about to make poor choices.....
How about you? What are your goals?
Weekly Mini Challenge
Around this time of year we do not always get enough sun and Vit D......
Challenge this week is to stand outside in the sun, every day for 15 minutes....you can be walking, of course, but even if you just stand, that's good....
Have a good week everyone!!

Hey guys,
I know I've kinda been off the radar for a few weeks. I am my worst enemy when it comes to this kind of thing, but I'M BACK!
My goals for this week:
1. Log everything, every day, no matter what. (might be after the fact for the weekend, since I'll be on retreat with my church's youth group Friday night through Sunday)
2. Get a walk in at least 5 days this week.
3. 8 cups of water every day0 -
Welcome back genesischild!0

welcome back genesis
as for the mini goal thats a good goal, just hard for me because of the cold and non stop snow lol.
today I lost 1.4lbs but it really wasn't a loss because I gained some last week and I think it was because of doing more exercise and changing up some things. I think I been holding in water. so I don't count that as a loss. I am giving my self a month before I really say I lost anything.
goals this week
1.going to the gym every day and having one day of rest ( I have to force my self on rest days)
2.getting more fruits and veggies at least getting in 4-5 fruits and veggies in a day
3. being more active with my friends and in the groups.
4. getting 10k in steps for 5 days.

I think I am finally getting some of the energy increased exercise promises. I actually took down my Christmas tree yesterday!
I made Pumpkin Quinoa Saladon Sunday and have it portioned out to eat at lunch all week. I also had some blue sweet potatoes from my CSA so I added it. It tastes pretty good, but I probably won't make it again because peeling a pumpkin is a *kitten*!
I also chopped up romaine lettuce and peeled and sliced an English cucumber for garden salads for lunches as well. I'm still working on my dinner menu plan for the week.
I meet with my trainer tonight. Last week was two hours of sitting down and talking! I expected to learn some exercise routines right away! Naturally, some sales pressure was included but when you're broke it's easy to say no. But the pressure wasn't too bad.0 -
Goals for the week:
- Walk to work everyday and walk home three times
- Plan out my meals one day in advance
- Drink at least 100 oz. of water each day
- Try one new recipe

welcome Genesischild and JocoBlossoming, glad to see both of you!
My goals this week build on the goals achieved from last week
run 4x
do alt workouts 2x (boxing, bodyweight, etc)
log everyday
Post to this thread every day.
run in the sunlight at least once thanks mini goal! (I normally run at night so this will be a good thing for me)
my big new goal is to drink 4 16 oz bottles of water every day.
one of my weaknesses is I dont' think about drinking water until later in the day (like 3 pm). so I set reminders on my phone to drink water every hour. hopefully that will help.
good luck this week everyone, I know we can kick butt!

Welcome back genesischild.
I have been feeling low the last couple of weeks. I've been trying to snap out of it. I just feel blah, hard to explain. I have been busy at work and so far and it is Tuesday I haven't felt like working. I'm pushing my way through. I have talked to other people and they are saying the same thing. Hopefully it's because the weather keeps changing. No matter what it is I have to change this mood.
Besides all that:
I like the mini goal. I just wish it was warmer outside.
My goals this week:
1. 10k steps each day
2. Drink my water
3. Stay within my calorie goal (Find healthier evening meals)
4. Work out 5 times this week
5. Log/post everyday0 -
My knee is giving me issues this week, so I'm going to take it easy. I logged all of my meals for the rest of the week and on Saturday, I'm going to make carne asada. I might not walk home three nights this week but if I'm feeling well in the morning, I'll walk to work. I also had about 120 oz. of water yesterday, so I'm doing well on my goals.
Having an injury makes me realize how much I use my body now. I feel so limited in what I can do, and I was upset that I couldn't walk home or play with my dog as much as I usually do. I also miss walking on my breaks. Just being outside and enjoying a one mile walk helps with stress, and I feel ready to get back to work. But I have to let myself heal and once I do, I'll be back at it.0 -
Michelle, I can completely relate with the mood thing! I've been in a funk since Thanksgiving and can't seem to pull all the way out. I (re)started MFP in January and am still waiting for the mood-enhancement that exercise promises. But I keep powering through (so far.) That being said, we both might need to get us some happy pills if the moods continue.
Joco, Knee problems are awful! You're right, you don't realize how much you use it until you can't do it as much anymore. I find myself looking a younger people going up and down stairs without using the handrail and thinking "Enjoy it while you can!"
My trainer showed me some exercises last night to help with my knee problems. Rolling out the IT band and some stability exercises to work the muscles on either side of the knee. I cursed him out a little bit thanked him for his help. It was my last free session so I'm on my own from here on out!0 -
I hate winter and snow, I missed my gym classes yesterday and my boxing and aqua zumba tone class this morning, but I'm going to head to zumba tonight to get something in0
-
How do you add photos on here??
I have been doing ok so far this week. I am sleeping later, because my son is on exams so I can, so I have not been getting my lemon water in the morning, but, I went to the gym today (even though I didn't get out of bed until 11am, and normally would have used that as a time excuse).....and I got all my steps in yesterday....my boss hid behind an isle and scared the crap out of me jumping up as I passed....then stood there for five minutes laughing her butt off
I noticed today I am not as sore already when weight lifting....so that is a plus
Matt - I also drink most of my water late in the day.....I wonder if it really matters.....I tend to limit my drinking while I am not home during the day because I have issues using public restrooms (OCD related)....so sometimes I can work nine hours and even go shopping afterwards and will not pee until I get home like 12 hours later....so I only drink what I need to while I am out and then drink a LOT at night...being diabetic it is never a problem to get enough water in, I can drink two liters while eating dinner! I wonder if it matters WHEN you drink it....what does everyone think?
Skittles - on rest days, do you still get 10K steps? I guess what I am asking is how much rest is involved lol....I never thought of this before, like if I needed a day off walking....I have had two just from being too busy, and during those days, I tend to feel very lazy and eat more. I know you work out a LOT, so am wondering, is the rest day just from work outs, or walking too?
I guess I will call the mini challenge a mini goal now, since everyone else is lol
I have been getting my bit of time outside, it is cold here, and snowy, but it was sunny today! I also take a VIT D supplement from OCT-APRIL anyway, just to be safe....I take a few supplements in general.....but we have such long winters here and my DR said I run low near the middle of winter without it.0 -
well I haven't worked out in 3 days, no exercise just pure laziness and eating. it sucks, but when I do have a rest day I try and just do a very light walk. and most times I only hit maybe 5k in steps the whole day. the last few days I haven't even got to 3k in steps. been super lazy lol. today is going to change. I'm going to the gym. I am driving in the snow and making my self get back into it.0

My sleep has improved so much the last couple weeks. For a while, I was waking up at 2:00 a.m. and staying up until 5:00 a.m. Last night, my boyfriend remarked how soundly I slept with the cat bundled up to me. We were both snoring
My knee is so much better today. I purchased a brace I plan on using whenever I walk. I didn't use it this morning to walk to work, but I definitely should have. I was fine at first, but then I felt some discomfort. Going to stay off it for the rest of the day and keep icing it.
Last night, I made roasted garlic, and I ate all of it. So delicious!
Skittles, you do an excellent job at keeping yourself accountable.0 -
so I haven't posted since Monday (pooh) but I've run 1x and done 1 alt workout. so I'm on track there. big thing for me is I've done well at my water goal. today I'm already 3 bottles in and it's just 3 oclock. I'm noticing that it does make me feel more energetic.
on a side note, I'm also working through some emotional issues that I think has held me back from losing weight I think.0 -

The idea behind drinking the 8 cups of water, from what I remember, is to remove toxins/waste, help keep you full throughout the day, and to convince your body that it's not dehydrated (which limits water retention).
I drink water when I start to get hungry to see if I'm just thirsty. I also drink water if my pee gets dark, a potential sign of dehydration. But, it's really up to your body what works best for you.
There were reports of people drinking too much water at one sitting and causing their brain to swell, causing various injury and a few deaths (a marathon runner a few years back stands of I'm my mind, possibly college hazing too). You may want to research the maximum admit of water you are supposed to drink in rapid succession.
Long response short (too late), if you don't feel the need to drink throughout the day, and don't notice any physiological signs your probably okay; however, your body may retain water to compensate.0 -
matfatcowboy, it's so important working through those issues, and I'm glad you're taking the time to understand yourself.
My knee has improved significantly. I was able to walk to work at a decent pace. I'll take a short walk during my breaks, and I hope my knee will feel better by next week, so I can walk home too.
Yesterday, I received mail from Domino's pizza with a coupon and a note saying "it's been waaaaay too long." I laughed a little. Before, I would immediately use the coupon and eat a whole pizza. Today, I just put it in the recycling. I love pizza, but I'd rather just make it on my own or eat it from somewhere else.
My eating is on point this week, and I have decided not to weigh-in until March. I know it's 100% mental, but I tend to have larger losses when I only weigh-in once a month (or even once every two months). I focus more on my goals outside of weight loss and with marathon training, I feel like I'm working toward a goal that I'm always succeeding at whereas weight loss isn't linear (of course), and I feel like a failure when the number doesn't reflect the work I put in. And though I know I'm not failing at anything, it's still discouraging. I'm glad I know what works for me.0 -
sorry I been MIA a bit, docs orders to lay off some of the exercise. I'm having some issues with my tailbone and plavic and I'm getting some treatments done so I have to take it easy with the work outs. which is killing me lol and my food has been crap to because of it. ahh I need to still eat the right stuff.0
-
Yesterday I was solid all day, and then I decided to skip the gym and watch tv instead. It all fell apart. "If every day were like today, you would weigh 1 pound more than where you started a month ago."0
-
Hey guys, sorry I was MIA for a couple days there.....all the extra exercise is causing me to have some crazy blood sugar issues....I thought I could figure it out on my own....but two days ago it got really really bad, and felt like I was dying for about 24hrs.....I am feeling better today....working late shift tonight so just resting a bit now and will get my walking in this evening.....I am not giving up.....hopefully this will correct itself soon.....0
-
FloraJL, it's a good thing everyday won't be like today.
Italian_Buju, I am so sorry you're experiencing issues. Take care of yourself.
Skittles, when exercise and eating well aren't done together, I tend to get thrown off balance. It was really difficult when I wasn't active at all from injuries. All I wanted to do was eat.
Wore new shoes today, and my knee thanks me. I feel like I can walk again and actually reached 11,000 steps last night. I'm almost ready to get back to walking 5-10 miles a day. Yesterday was a great day. The beginning of this month was very difficult for me, but I worked through it.
I'm planning out my meals for next week. This weekend, I'm making my own butter and aioli. My boyfriend also wants to start running with me, and I'm so glad! It'll be nice having a partner.0 -
Well I was hoping for a good week. This week just kept getting worst. I hoping after today things will change.
matfatcowboy: Boy do I know about those emotional issues. When I finally said OK, you don't have anymore excuses on getting healthy. It seems like every pound I lose has an emotional attachment. I will be at the gym working out and just be flooded with a memory and then have to deal with that emotion that goes with that memory. Good luck on working on those emotions.0 -
I have the same problem!! When I do not get up and walk or exercise at all, all I want to do is eat! And then if I eat junk, it makes me lazy and I do not want to walk or exercise at all! What a vicious cycle!
I have to say, I do notice a big difference in my energy level when I eat properly.
My blood sugar was not bad today....not perfect, but not as bad as it was in the last couple days.....everything is so complicated when you are on insulin shots....every little thing makes a difference.....it drives me nuts at times....most of the time I am used to it and just live my life, but once in a while it drives me mad!
jocoblossoming - glad you got new shoes and it is helping! Proper shoes are so important....sadly, I only learned that a few years ago lol, but glad I know it now, and glad you did too! How long does it take you to do all that walking? I noticed how high your step count was before and wondered if you just walk all day long lol.....I am a super slow walker so it takes me a while to get my steps in!
michelle - I hope things get better for you this upcoming week!!
BTW - how is everyone doing with the mini goal of getting sunlight? Other than today I did well.....even yesterday when I felt crappy I got outside.....if anyone has any mini goal ideas or suggestions, feel free to state so in the thread, or PM me if you wish instead!0 -
I'm going to be busy this weekend, so I'll do a final update.
This week was a success. I walked to work everyday, and my knee felt good enough to walk home last night. I'm glad, because it was so beautiful, so I stayed on the bridge and took photos. I have my meal prep. list ready for Sunday, and today I'm making carne asada and guacamole with roasted garlic, jalapenos and onions. Last night, I made butter and whipped cream with a jar. It was a nice workout and WOW. Whipped cream is so much better when you make it.
Italian_Buju, I don't own a car, so I naturally walk a lot. It's about two miles to work and though I have a desk job, I tend to get up and walk around a lot throughout the day. I also take walks on my breaks and lunch. And at night after I get home, I tend to dance to music. It's fun and keeps me away from the kitchen and binging. I look like a fool, but it's a nice way to unwind. My dog is also really hyper, so I try to give him extra play time and walk with him as much as I can before and after work. It all added up really quickly, especially after the pain in my back and legs stopped around September/October.
Weekly challenge ideas (mainly writing prompts, but I really like hearing from everyone ):- try a new exercise
- Log your food the night before for the entire week
- Make a healthier version of a meal that's usually really high in calories and report back with the recipe
- don't eat out for an entire week
- bring your lunch to work everyday for a week
- What are you goals for this month? Write them down along with how you plan on reaching them.
- Everyday, write down one positive change you've made in your life.
- Do you have mini-goals as you lose weight with rewards? If so, list them.

So, for my last update this week:
My goals were so so this week, but I am still down a pound and a half, so that is a win....
Follow a proper morning hydration routine (Today is literally the only day I did this, lol, being that my son was off school this week for exams, I slept in this week instead so did not have time for this)
Post on this thread every day (I made it most days, other than when I was sick with that blood sugar issue)
Log my food six days this week (But still be mindful of what I eat on my day off) (This I did, although my day off was because I was sick and not really a break, but I made sure I logged every other day anyway)
Get to the YMCA three times (Including today I made it twice, which is better than none and I am ok with that considering my week)
Make my 10 thousand steps every day, and try for my 20K step badge on Thursday (I made the 10K five days, was slightly short two days, and did not even try for the 20K badge cuz Thursday was my sick day, however, I made myself go out that day and do some shopping so I would not totally fall short)
So, all in all, I am calling this week a win......I am feeling better now, so hoping for a better week this week upcoming....my goals are gonna be pretty much the same again, but they are working so I am ok with that.....
How did everyone else do??0 -
How did everyone do with the mini goal this week? I got out in the sun every day but one, so pretty good....how did everyone else do??0
-
I got my mini goal in this week with a short horseback ride today, only 3.5 miles ish. Eating was ok this week. Not anything to write home about but around the calorie goal. I did miss on the runs due to weather but I had an active weekend and I did well 2 days on hydrating. Better than 0 from last week.0
