Here's a little running motivation as I'm off to do a short run...my first one since my surgery!
Laura - My swim went well! I'm obviously a lot slower right now, and I'm only doing short workouts, 15-30 minutes, to get started. But it felt good to be out there again!
I went over in calories yesterday. By quite a bit. But I am proud that I logged everything honestly. I had dinner planned out, but hubby worked a weird shift today and they never gave him a break. He went 12 hours without eating and wanted to go out so we did. I had a game plan for that too...but the place we wanted to go has unexpectedly changed its hours so we went to red robin. I normally get the Ensenada chicken there...but I was ravenous and got a burger without checking. It was, of course, about a bazillion calories. So I went over. But that is life.
This week is a lot of time trials to start off my training. I do them every four weeks after this to gauge my progress. I remind myself that this is like the before picture...I'm not supposed to blow it away after being gone for 3 months. Did mine for the swim yesterday and the run is this morning. Just a warm up and then a 1 mile run. We'll see how it goes!
Have a great Tuesday!0 -
Yesterday I got the run and kettleball class in. Today I woke up late and was late to work which means I need to stay late. Then, I have to teach puppy class at 7 pm, so I might not get too much in today. I think it might be a good day for a 15-30 minute bodyweight workout.
Laura, the King Crab Challenge starts hard and hopefully gets easier. The challenge is actually, a half marathon at the Frederick Running Festival on May 3rd, a 10 mile run about 6 weeks later, and then a half or a full at the Baltimore Running Festival in mid-October.
The half marathon on May 3rd has a time limit of 3 hours and 15 minutes and I'm out of shape compared to where I was 12 weeks before my half that I did last September. Then I have the 10 mile run about 6 weeks later. Hard!
I signed up for the half marathon in mid-October (rather than the full -- no way am I ready for that) and I expect to be in better shape, plus it has a 5+ hour time limit.

val you are off to a good start!
Donna that king crab sounds so cool! Not easy...but cool! Btw, do you mean Frederick, MD? I used to live there.
Jen, bravo for the Army circuit! Making high school boys feel like "little girly men" (said in SNL Ahnold voice) is what it's all about! lol!
Laura, the way I'm running, 1.5 hrs really does feel like "only". It's soooo easy, it's ridiculous. They say you should feel like you could carry a conversation. How about feeling like I could sing Christmas carols while typing thre great American novel...on a blackberry. Lol! Seriously heart rate training takes absolutely nothing out of me. Hope I'm not wasting my time and will get results.
Marla, I heard about the Super bowl and I'm guessing that wasn't the result you were hoping for? :-(
April, you are rockin and rollin!
Today I ran to the coast, took a potty break at the marina and ran back. Two hours, gorgeous sunny day. :-)0 -
Love the thread starter today!
Val I hope your run went well!
Donna signing up for the half in Oct instead of the full is smart. There's a full in October about 90 minutes from where I live so I toyed with the thought of doing the same half as last year in June and then the full in October and my trainer didn't want me to do that yet at my level of running. Said the two build-ups were asking a lot for a fairly new runner. So I'm just doing the full in July, and then will see what the summer brings.
April you're doing great! I need to get to the grocery store tonight because my food selection is poor right now and proper preparation is so key to success!
Taking a rest day today. Typically I'd have Pilates and/or swim lesson and I don't have either. There's a new yoga studio not far from my house & they have a beginner class on Wednesday nights (my usual rest day) so I'm taking today off instead then going to go check the yoga class out tomorrow night.0
