Gaining weight back

Over the last 5 days, I gained 3 pounds back. I checked over the weekend, and I am in ketosis (3.2mm)-My carbs vary, but they are almost always under 35. Not being in ketosis is not the issue. After reading a few articles, there may be a few things going on.
I did start my period Sun night. Not sure if this causes water gain. You would think I would lose from this!
I also upped my calories from 1200 to 1700 last week because 1) I was often around/under 1200 cal/day and I was afraid of stalling my metabolism, and 2) I may have over estimated how much I can actually burn. I moved them back down now.
I guess my other options are that: I might be underestimating my calorie intake,
dairy is too high for me,
or my artificial sweeteners in the cheesecake I made last week is backfiring.
I also had some wine last weekend.
Im sure it's water gain, but I am frustrated. It feels like there are too many variables to be sure of anything! Sometimes I wish I could kick my stupid cells.

There are way to many variables and the time period is too short to say anything. My daily weights can vary by as much as 3 pounds, and I have no hormonal water retention to contend with.
I wouldn't make changes based on 5 days. I'd keep the calories at 1700 and wait out at least 2-3 weeks and see where you're at then.
If you're really frustrated with scale movements, you should weigh more often (daily) and use a program that keeps a running average or a trend-line. Those programs will reduce the amount of variation you'll face, and they can also make it easier to see and compare how quickly you are losing weight.0 -
Stop watching the scale. I watch the scale with an open mind, but then put on a pair of jeans and see how many notches I am comfortable at on my belt. How do your clothes fit? And remember women's weight can fluctuate 5lb. based on time of the month. You may end up 7lb down in a week. :-)
What is your carb limit? Everyone is different but I have to stay around 20-25/day. Otherwise I don't lose much.

I weigh daily, and in the morning. When I started this, my goals were to lose the 20lbs that I gained over the last year, and figure out my blood sugar/dizzy issues, as well as fix my knees (patellofemoral). I used to run, and now I can't even do a 1 hour zumba class without my knees screaming and then I can hardly walk. I am back in PT.
My activity level consists of daily yoga stretching and 2x wk PT. Some walking. I struggle with dizziness if my activity level is too intense. I still don't understand why. I have always eaten around 1200-1400 calories, so the increase in calories was a mistake for me (too soon). I have the skinny/fat body right now, so I don't think my BMR is very active.
As far as my body and clothes, it's not better. No changes in belt or the fit. In fact, it seems worse. Because I am so short, these kinds of shifts can change a whole pants size for me.
I am not sure about my carb limit as far as results, but I measure keytones once a week. 35 days, and I was in ketosis right away. I realize that is not much weight to lose, and its a high fitness goal since Its close to my ideal "fit" weight.0 -
I went up and down for 3-4 weeks and then stopped weighing myself. I remembered to weigh myself yesterday and felt like I was heavier. I was 2kg lighter and when I logged, it had been a month since the last weighing. Ditch the scales and just keep going.
*Edit - I just checked, it was actually just over a fortnight, not a month. I stopped weighing every day and stopped obsessing over it.0 -
Hormone fluctuations can cause serious bloat. 3 lbs over a few days is nothing to worry about. Now you did say that you upped your cals by 400-500 per day, and you did say you are petite, so it is possible that 1700 is maintenance for you, but no way to tell in that short period of time.
You don't have much to lose, so it may be slow going. If you still want to weigh daily, use a program like fit goat suggested so you can see the trendline and not focus on the ups and downs so much.
As far as your dizziness. You said you have had blood sugar issues as in too low, right? But have you had yourself checked for syncope?0 -
I think checking into syncope is a good idea. You know, now that you mention it, I think I need a new doctor. She ran several typical blood tests, said I had low Vit D, and then did not really investigate further. My BG in the past has been low. But not consistently low - its odd. I don't have the other strips yet to check myself - but I will get some now. This morning I drank 3 cups BPC starting at 5:30am- then got dizzy around 9:30. I just had my yogurt breakfast, and I am still dizzy. I had mag/pot supplements this morning. I guess it could be salt, but I doubt it.0
