Starting weight: 166.8
Last week: 164.0
Today: 162.8
Loss: 1.2
Total Loss: 4 lbs 19.7 pounds to go to my goal; 9.8 pounds to go to earn my boat bench.
This is honestly where the power of this little support group lies. I am walking from the desk to the coffee pot lecturing myself as if I were talking to one of you. I lost ANOTHER 1.2 pounds. I am "in the teens" and "single digits" towards making my goals. Muscle weighs more than fat, right?? And I have started exercising after not doing anything for 3 months. Unfortunately I can't use the "poop" excuse because I was so excited I even waited until that task was completed. Ugh. I really did think I'd do better than 1.2.
Our weather has been so crappy it's really a challenge to get those steps in, but by God I did it every single day this week, surpassing that 10,000 steps every day. I walked 87,153 steps for a total of 36 miles, every one of them clawed for. I've logged my food, I drank that water. My expectations were high.
Last night's weather forecast was iffy. If the coming storm blew one way we'd get warmer temps and more ice. If it blew into the valley we'd expect 10" of snow. It was 17 degrees when I went to bed. The storm blew the other way and we're now expecting 43 degrees today (that will feel like summer after our freezing temps) so everything is going to start melting just in time for the cold later this afternoon which will turn everything back into death defying ice. I look like a penguin even walking the dog. To get 12,000 steps in that kind of crap in my head makes me worthy of an Olympian medal. Apparently the God of Fat doesn't see it the same. Don't like that God of Fat.
Onward!! 47 days till Spring!

congrats on your 1.2 lb loss. That is a good loss, in spite of your hopes. You are building muscle up again while taking off the fat and that has to be considered, too. My hat's off to all of you ladies with your huge stepping counts (Sarah, last week their weekly total put them all in the high 80's and 90,000 steps!!) and even more so to those of you who live in that bitter cold which makes it so unpleasant to even think about going out.
My weather has been so beautiful the last few days but I have really needed to be inside taking care of other things (food prep, laundry, etc) but I plan to spend some time outside today. At least I have been able to get on the exercise bike a couple of times this week. Since my mid week weigh in seems so difficult for me to accomplish right now and you are starting the weigh in on a Sunday when my days are easier (and I often had to wait until the weekend to chime in anyways), I am going to go ahead and move my weigh in day to Sundays as well.
SW 198 (good to remember where I came from)
LW 178.4
TW 178.2 not much of a difference but I am pleased that over the last 3 weeks of stress and brutal work hours, I am maintaining. I see the horizon, though, and with it, a chance for more exercise and the weight should start going down again. And I've switched the food intake/recipes around, giving my menu some new flavors which always changes things a bit. And my renewed goal: to lose 1 lb/wk, 10 lbs in 10 weeks, lbs by next Thanksgiving.
You mentioned a phrase that struck a chord with me... you fought for every step you took last week. You fought for it. The Biggest Loser contestants fought for their accomplishments. Those who were willing to fight the hardest, lost the most. I lost the fight for a while, between the holidays and now, mainly because one can only really focus on one thing at a time and my focus absolutely had to be on my job. But now as things start easing up a bit at work, I'm back in the ring... ready to fight again.
Let's fight for what we want. Make this week count, one day at a time...0 -
Good Sunday morning, ladies. Thanks Light for letting me know about the fitbit groups' steps. More than 10,000 steps a day is amazing. With my 10+ hours a day at a desk, I almost never break 10,000 steps, but I CAN set a new goal to break 10,000 on weekends.
I almost made that yesterday. I was feeling a bit down with all the frigid temps, wind (gosh, high winds are rough when it's cold), long work hours, and family issues. So around 5 p.m., hubby (who is down with neck pain) suggested that I call my mall walking friend. We typically just walk together when we happen to be at the mall at the same time, but we had exchanged phone numbers. So I called and she was in the same "kinda down" space I was, and we agreed to meet at the mall in 30 minutes. We put in a more than an hour at a brisk pace, and I burned close to 500 calories during that time frame. Yeah!
Cheryl, at our height more than a pound in any week is a great success, and particularly in cold weather. Sounds like you're a little north of me. I'm in Maryland, and we only got about 4 inches during this last storm. We're looking at a "wintry mix" today.
We've been invited to watch the super bowl with some friends whom we've known for more than 20 years and who are moving to NC soon. Hubby does not want to miss the last chance to spend super bowl Sunday with them, since it's kind of tradition, but I'm a litttle concerned about driving home on potentially slick roads with a lot of post-ball game impaired drivers. I'm also thinking about all the tempting ball game food. And mentioning that, it's time for me to get to the store to buy some things to take that are more healthy. I think we're doing a yogurt chicken salad and a fruit salad to offset all the pizza and wings.
Have a great Sunday, everyone! (Lois, the news clips about the golf tournament last week reminded me of how pretty the mountains are around Phoenix, and I thought of you every time.)

Sicko Ms. Sickerson checking in....
Yep.. Yesterday I was doing okay and thought I was mostly getting over it and today.. Not so much. Stuffed up head which is causing headaches and fogginess, which is leading to my lack of energy. Ah well... Better off getting well I suppose. I started a couple new app challenges on my phone the other day and have managed to keep up with those at least. A squat one, a sit up one and a push up one. With that, and my lack of appetite, I'm thinking I'll probably lose this week but it'll be difficult to keep it off.
Amazing loss Cheryl!! I know you aren't super happy with that, but that's really an amazing loss. It's definitely better than a Gain! Your body is getting used to it all over again and you're going to have to play around with your eating habits and workouts to find out what works best for your body. Everyone reacts differently.
Good job to you too Light! Way to recognize that switching your weigh in date, might help you out a little more. I moved mine by a day too, so I'm Tuesdays. It's just what works best with my schedule.
Way to go on those extra steps Sarah!! Even though you didn't really want to do anything else, you did it... And you managed to motivate someone else as well. That always feels good
OK.. Back to the couch I go. Just got finished an Epsom salt bath. Oh.. And I'm also trying out this Wholy Tea stuff. Have you Gals heard of it? It's a Detox like program with tea... So far, it's definitely working... Cheryl.. You'll know what that means. Gonna flush all this crap outta me.. Sickness and literally lol0 -
Kelly, I was hoping you were getting to feel better but it sounds like you've got a little ways to go. Hope it won't be much longer before you are back to your healthy self. Good for you for continuing the app challenges. Not easy when you don't feel good. LOL about the tea, not familiar with it but hope it works for you.
Sarah, I echo that "good for you" for getting out and walking with your mall buddy and I hope your husband's neck is feeling better and you will find good eating choices and clear highways when it is time to come back home again.
I got a good number of steps in today as I was doing some yard work. I had to trim a few branches off the oak tree and it took several trips back and forth to take it all to the curb It feels nice having accomplished some things with my weekend...0 -
So uberly thankful my weigh in isn't until tomorrow...this morning does not make tomorrow look much more promising, but I'm hoping ...I mean I can't GAIN 4 lbs in a day....right? LOL Any gain will be mine to own and like the holidays, I'm expecting it. HOWEVER, this will be my LAST gain for a while. With the Open complete (and yes, those mountains by the golf course are the ones I hike) and the Superbowl WIN (YEAH PATRIOTS), I am back on program. I have my salad and a pork chop for lunch today. since we hosted the SB party, we do have leftovers, however, I did get to send the desserts home with another family. So the leftovers are the total horrible ones (meat, home made chili (i made so I know it's ok for my program) and some delicious salsa to top my eggs tomorrow.
You FB ladies have me really rocking on my steps. I admit that I woke up yesterday and DID NOT WANT TO HIKE...so I didn't, but dang I still got in 14k steps (sorry Cheryl). That was just getting the house ready and food cooked for the party. I have group class tonight and Wednesday and trail run training on Tues/Thurs.
This week's goal: I WILL get my workouts in and I WILL eat properly!!!
Back with the weigh in tomorrow morning!0 -
14,000 steps around the house, Lois! My goodness--I don't think I've ever done that! My house is small (2000 sq ft), and I have one of those compact kitchens that makes cooking easy (provided there's only one cook), but it does limit movement.
I haven't uploaded today, but I made it through the Superbowl without eating a singe chip of any kind. (Chips--particularly tortilla chips-- are my weakness.) I had one piece of pizza, although it was loaded with meat, and one small chicken salad on a croissant sandwich, and sparkling water. We left quickly after the game and didn't see any impaired drivers, although it was snowing and the roads were a bit "greasy." All in all a good night.
Happy Monday everyone. Kelly, take care of that cold and feel better soon.0 -
Sarah - my house is only 2400 sf. I believe it was from the anxious pacing..haha0
-
Cheryl, that's a good amount of weight loss, IMO. Like Sarah said, at our height (and dare I mention age?) it's great. Your steps have been awesome . . so just keep up the great work.
Light, congrats on your reduction too! Yay! Every bit is a step closer to your goal.
I barely managed to not eat any pizza at my super bowl get together! And no alcohol. According to the new app on my phone, I'm proud to say it's been 35 days with no alcohol, and 26 days with no added sugar. I indulged in about 4 cups of buttered popcorn at the party, and diet drinks. I'm very proud of myself!! That's darn hard for me . . . especially when my team loses, LOL!
Sarah, it sounds like you did well too. And, I'm so glad you got motivated to get your mall walk done!
Kelly, feel better. Do you think it's that awful flu? I had a flu shot, but they are saying it's only 23% effective this year. My weigh-in day is also Tuesdays. So, see you here tomorrow. I'm hoping skipping pizza and alcohol will be worth it.

Weeeehoooo I'm in the 130's (*) (*) (*) I'm giving myself 3 gold stars. lol
Yesterday was my first day of really feeling back to normal and not a zombie. Although I still have some congestion, I think the worst is over and I finally have my energy back... just in time to go to work.
It sounds like you ladies all enjoyed the Super Bowl. Hopefully none of you were cheering for the Seahawks though...cause wow.. they sure did blow it. I had the game on, but I was in and out of sleep. I did manage to catch them blowing the lead. I actually only got into NFL last year, when the NHL was on their lockout.
I'm sooo jealous that you're getting to do yard work like cutting branches, Light! Although we barely have any snow this year (in Canadian standards), it has been pretty cold. It seems like every time I'm home it's cold and warm at work, and every time I'm at work it's cold, but warm at home! Never fails lol I'm going to Mexico for a few days in March though.. can't wait to get into the warmth!! Tonight I'm going to meet with my Travel Agent about going to Europe in September/October too
Lois - 14000 steps just in your house is INSANE! Great job!! You must have been non-stop going all day before the game started. Go Patriots!!! I bet you and Seg were pretty happy with the outcome.
Great job all of you ladies and giving up on something at Super Bowl.. whether it was having no pizza or less pizza, no wings, water to drink instead.. Awesome job on remembering your health is more important!!0 -
Welcome to a new decade, Kelly! That's what Sheesh and celebrated when we fell together from the 150s to the 140s to the 130s, and I think we even flirted with the 120s back when we first started our Bodybugg journeys. We were Frick and Frack, tracking along together. I have a ways to catch back up, but I'm truly delighted for everyone's achievements, and I'm glad you're feeling better.
Gotta run, so have a good day, everyone. I had connectivity issues all day yesterday, and although I was at my desk from 8:30 a.m. until 7 p.m., I got very little done. The IT folks worked through the night and I hope things are better today. I have a lot of catching up to do.
I did make it to the mall last night and met up again with my walking buddy. It's a very good thing to befriend someone with longer legs.0 -

Loss of 1.7 lbs
Happy! It's interesting that I lost exactly the same as last week. I hope I can keep it going, although I know I usually have to change things up to make that happen. We'll see.
Congratulations Kelly! It feels great to get into the lower decade, as Sarah says. You really EARNED that with all your steppin'! It's great that you're going to Mexico. What a nice reward for all your hard work, and it will feel so good to warm up and rest. And Europe, too! You go girl! Oh, by the way, I was the ONE person here cheering for the Seahawks. You were spot on that they BLEW IT! But, the Patriots played really well, so you can't take that away from them. It was a good game. But, I was glad I didn't waste eating sugar or drinking alcohol on that dissappointment
Got a million things to do today, but I'm hoping to still get a workout done later today. Hope you all have a healthy day!

GREAT reductions everyone....I caught them all....why? Because I gave up nothing during this past week and boy am I feeling it. Was it worth it? I don't think so but hindsight is 20/20. Well here's the honesty - whelp

Yep...this past week of alcohol and not my normal eating. But the PATRIOTS won!!! Yippeee!! And I had a great time at the Open and at the Superbowl...so now I've got to buckle down and get back on track.
Kelly - So glad you're feeling better (though I have enjoyed seeing my name at the top of the leaderboard - hehehe). As far as Seg, well we're kind of backwards in my marriage when it comes to sports. It's more me than him. He seriously took off his new jersey right after we took the picture and I am returning hit. He didn't even want to keep it that long. Not that he's not a patriots fan, he's just not into it at all. He liked the superbowl because we had people over, most of the game he was playing games with the kids in the other room...and seriously...it was just me routing for the Pats! And I was pacing throughout the game...I could not sit still. We had the projector outside showing the game as well so i was in and out and moving all night.
Sheesh - I give you huge KUDOs for no alcohol. It's been just over 30 hours for me. But no, I'll be with you and going off it for quite a while. I need to get the numbers down for my race in March at least.
Sarah....idea. walking desk or are you able to stand at your desk at all and move your feet? I do that sometimes it helps to keep the blood flowing and urges me to actually step.

It's something to think about, Lois. Many days, what I do is so tedious that walking probably wouldn't work. I might be able to stand some, once I got used to it--at least for some tasks. You'd think that I could stand during conference calls at least, but I'm usually focused on data onscreen and fearful that I'll be asked a question if I stray. That has happened before, and it's funny in retrospect--but not so funny when it happens.
Today the arm band on my BodyMedia Core broke, and when I tried to order a replacement, I got a message saying that they're no longer available. BodyMedia was bought by Jawbone, and they're phasing out all the BodyMedia products. So I may be pushed to make a change. (fitbit?) Me, who hates change! Hubby used some plastic cement of some type to make a repair, but who knows how long it will hold. I have a replacement Bodybugg band that I never used, but the BodyMedia is a smaller unit, so that band finally went in the trash.
Tomorrow is my weigh-in day, but I was a bit down (145 point something) this morning. Sheesh, I am so envious of you in the low 130s again. And proud of you!
P.S. I was pretty neutral on the Super Bowl. As you know, Washington has the worst football team in the Nation. Hubby switched over to Green Bay (the team of his youth) out of disgust for the Redskins' owner.0 -
Frustration. Utter freaking frustration. First I couldn't use my bodymedia yesterday, so I don't have 7 day stats. I know that I shouldn't care so much, but I'm a data person. Then, I went from 145.6 last night to 146.4 this morning. Natural fluctuation, I'm sure, but the net result is that I'm still standing still. I'm not making excuses. There was nothing out of the ordinary. We had Super Bowl, but my total intake that day was actually less than usual. We had sleet and snow, but I still walked every day but one. I worked, long tedious hours doing tasks that requires intense concentration--but that's nothing new. My 6-day deficit averaged 533 per day. If I invoke the "TimDad" factor and subtract 200 calories a day for human and device errors. it's still a 333 deficit per day. For someone who works all day with things that have to be scientifically sound and accurate, this my friends, is maddening.

I put on my new FitBit Charge HR this morning . . really liking it! I still need to figure out how to sync my iPhone to it to see the caller ID notifications. . Lois, it you've done that let me know. Sarah, you should get one and join us on the friends board there. Very fun! It might just be what you need to shake things up. Meanwhile, stay positive.0

I just heard from BodyMedia aka Jawbone a little while ago, and they said that only customers whose units are still under warranty can get a replacement band now. Although I've had my replacement unit for less than a year, my original purchase was more than a year ago, and that determines my warranty time.
Hubby's repair of the crack in my armband didn't hold. It's a small split and I can still wear it for now (the unit just comes out of the band when I take it off), but I can see that this will only last short term. The holder part is just cheap plastic, after all. The old black bodybugg armbands were much sturdier. I realized that when I tossed the unused one that I still had.
So I guess I do need to start thinking about what to do now. (I wish I did change better!) Does Fitbit have a website like BodyBugg did and BodyMedia does? I'm not one to keep a cell phone near me, since I'm usually at a desk where I have a 2-line phone and there's a computer monitor in front of my face all day.
P.S. The good news is that I was feeling cranky and tired last night. Hubby is out of town on business and my walking buddy has other commitments on Wednesdays. So it would have been easy to just settle in after a hard day's work. But about 7:30, I recognized that I hate that "giving up" feeling, and so I put on my running shoes, grabbed a jacket and made it to the mall to walk from 7:45 to 8:45.0 -
Great job Sarah!!! I LOVE the Fitbit Charge HR. It's worn on the wrist and you can see your progress with taps. Or you can keep the computer dongle in and check it out whenever you want when at the computer The website is fun - check it out at fitbit.com. You can even register BEFORE you buy a unit. It connects to My Fitness Pal which is my preferred food logging site (though FB is improving their site). Our group is here so I don't see the need to change. The FB mobile on smart phones has great challenges that we give one another so it adds another element of motivation.0
-
Yay! I'm excited for this change for you. I personally don't have the FitBit type that you wear on your wrist, as I didn't want to have everyone asking me what it was for and making sure it went with what I was wearing. I have the FitBit One and it's one that you can clip to your pants or bra. I just throw mine in my pocket and remember to take it out each time I change my pants. It's become a habit now, so I never forget.0
-
Thanks for the encouragement, ladies. Don't laugh. You know that research and data are my gig, so I'm going to explore what's available. Last I read, BodyMedia had the highest scores on calorie burn, so it makes you wonder why Jawbone has just dropped it. But I guess they're using the BodyMedia technology in their Jawbone products. It's all about the bottom line.
Knowing that, I sent another, quick polite e-mail saying that since they'll be losing a customer who is now paying a monthly fee for their website, I hope they might reconsider my warranty period as dating from my receipt of this replacement unit. It will probably do no good--but hey. A gal has to try.
I will NOT get a chance to walk tonight. I got my a** kicked today at work! I'm still trying to catch up from not having much connectivity on Monday and a number of new deadlines came up, so I just logged off moments ago. I have a nonwork meeting to attend tonight that I can't miss, and I have to run by PetSmart to get food for the kitties before that. What a day! I'm glad tomorrow is Friday.0 -
By higher calorie burn, do you mean the unit is telling you you're burning more (hence it's more accurate)? I love my fitbit, but I don't rely on it being 100% accurate of what I'm burning. It just needs to give me a baseline. No matter what, I try to stick to the same amount of calories taken in each day. If I happen to burn more calories that day than normal, I don't eat more to compensate. That's just me though.0
-
I think the reports are saying that the burn reported by bodymedia units is more accurate than other devices. I'd have to go back to see in which direction any of the devices, including bodymedia, are off. I don't know if they tend to report greater burns than actual or less. I don't eat more when I have a day that I have a higher burn rate either. I consider those days a bonus. All that said, I don't think any of the devices out there are 100% accurate. I was impressed with bodybugg because when I faithfully logged food and added in the 200 extra a day for human error and bad food labels, I could pretty well predict my losses.0
-
You can do the same with FitBit Sarah. It's called manually adding in calories.0
-
Sarah - I'm a stats/data person as well. LOVE reports. You are corrected that the BB and BM do measure the daily burn most accurately because of the way the unit sits on your body. HOWEVER, the FitBit options (particulary the Charge HR) really offer other details. Like Kelly though - the ONE is more discreet (I clip on bra between cleavage and it's not noticeable to me or others around). Using MFP for food logging you can also add in your additional 200 cals. Time to ditch the BB/BM and move over to the Fitbit arena. We're all here waiting for you (hurry up...we have a challenge that's starting Sat morning).
On another positive note. Today is my weigh day for my diet coach (wish he'd change that title) and I'm down 2.5 from Tuesday. Working hard to have a GREAT reduction on Tuesday!!
0 -
Yep, I think it is the way the unit sits on the skin and measures different things. I've also always kind of wondered about the long-term effects of having that thing sitting there!
Great news about 2.5 lbs. I find that when something out of the ordinary comes along and I eat and drink more or different things that I usually do, I'll have about a three pound spike that then levels off if I'm careful to go back to my usual intake/burn. Sounds like you quickly got back on track.
I barely made it to the pet store and then to my meeting last night. When I got home, it was after 10 p.m. and after the day I had had, I was too beat to do anything. I haven't uploaded yet, but I probably had about 2000 steps all day. Man, I couldn't stand many days like that one back to back. Today's not quit so bad, and tomorrow--drum roll--is Saturday.0 -
Sarah, I'm so excited you're considering getting a FitBit!! I just got the Charge HR, and I love it! It's very comfortable on my wrist. You can push a small side button to see the time and date (set how you want on website), your steps, your heart rate (I checked it and it's very accurate) the distance you've walked today, the calorie burn so far for the day, and the flights of stairs you've climbed. As my daughter would say, "It's awesome sauce!" Oh, and with Lois's help, I figured out how to get caller ID notifications on it! (Thanks Lois ) You don't have to use your phone with it, but like Lois said, it's fun! (These ladies are killing me with the challenges!) The website is great! I use My Fitness Pal to log food and it syncs with FitBit just great. Like Kelly, I don't (or try to not) "eat back" my exercise calories. When I don't, and also when I pay attention to the macros, I lose pretty well for an old short lady!

Lois, good job on the 2.5 loss!!0

Awesome job Lois! I figured that would happen when you said you went up lots from Super Bowl. It was probably water retention and now you've zapped your body back into it.

I think we're doing a yogurt chicken salad and a fruit salad to offset all the pizza and wings.
Have a great Sunday, everyone! (Lois, the news clips about the golf tournament last week reminded me of how pretty the mountains are around Phoenix, and I thought of you every time.)
