Water Intake Question

I am confused as to how much water I should have a day. I weigh 466, and even before dieting I would take in 128 oz a day (Diabetes and wasn't watching it as close as I should, stayed thirsty). I know it says 8 cups per day, but what about someone my size? On "My 600 Pound Life" I saw the doctor ask a big man what amount of water he was taking in a day, and he said 1 gallon, he told him to up it to 2 gallon. How much water consumption would be too much for me? I would be so thirsty if I only drank 8 cups (or even 16), even with my sugar levels under control. I like to drink lol.

Someone said too much water is dangerous? Can over-hydrate and sodium levels go up. Is this true? Just wanted to check.0

Yes, there is such a thing as Water Intoxication, which an EMT friend informed me about.
The two articles I just read didn't mention anything in regards to water amount vs. size, but they both mention it's not so much how much you drink, but in how short a time period did you drink it to make it dangerous.
Of course, I'm not a doctor so I can't advise you, but your own doctor should be able to answer what sounds to me like a simple question.0 -

Now I cannot remember how I worked it out, but I weight around 380 and I know I am supposed to drink about 6.5 liters a day. I am also diabetic and tend to drink a lot even though my sugars are very controlled.....I think diabetics just drink more naturally.
In order to drink enough water to have water intoxication, you would have to drink gallons and gallons all at once. Once you feel thirsty or your pee is yellow, you are already dehydrated. Also be aware that being dehydrated can cause higher blood sugar levels.....0 -
I've been told that to stay properly hydrated, you need to drink half your weight in oz. For example, I'm 288 now, so I would need to drink 144oz per day0

I've heard the same as LadyRowyn, half your weight in oz, so mine's like 17-18 cups a day (285/2=142.5 oz or 17.8 cups). I usually try to drink at least 8 during the work day and usually end up somewhere around 11 or 12.0

Hey! Try this hydration calculator. It will measure an adequate amount for what your body needs. I've found it a really useful tool! http://www.camelbak.com/hydrationcalculator0

Be careful though...lots of water can increase blood pressure. In the 300s, I find 10 cups keeps me hydrated. I may need more when summer comes.0
