All: they said walnuts were good for me. Apparently, 4-5 handfuls are not. 1,000 calories +. Sigh... My wife says I have no restraint and they are no,longer allowed in the house. I can turn down pizza and ice cream, but I am a real nut job!

Oh, dear. Me too! I finally packaged mine in one ounce portions in the snack size ziplocks. I'm less likely to eat three of those!

Another good night's sleep. Off to the gym for legs and core today. It's snowing. How much longer until Spring???

    Hahaha Kevin,

I was scrolling through, saw you got a new rowing machine and started wondering if it was a concept 2 or not...didn't even cross my mind that you were talking about a boat! HA!

Kevin, LOL good one. By the way I love the duck decals!! Your girls (I assumed) seems excited about it. ;) Fresh fish tastes the best! I wish you a successful and plentiful hunting/fishing season.

Jen thank you. And I do hope that one day I can break free from the food scale!! And congrats on your boots! I too have bigger calves but I don't think mine is muscles lol. They are just bigger, just how my legs are shaped. One of the reasons that I got picked to be in track is because my coach said I have the legs for it.
You should look online for boots, DSW and planetshoes carries wide calf, wide width boots. (I have wide feet)

Jonny you nut :p , yes those nuts!! I but macadamia nuts and 1 oz (which is not a lot) is 210K. Maybe your wife can hold on to the nuts and just give dole them out to you as needed?

Tom, big congrats! It must be such a relief to know that your family has been approved. What a great thing that your family is doing adopting a SN child.

Arturo and I went to a RKC (kettlebell) trainer yesterday and we both like her so we are hiring her. Yay I'm excited. She has other expertise in body alignment and neurosports as well. She is going to work with me to help me with my runner's knee so I'm really looking forward to that. I'm just happy that Arturo found a training program that he likes.
We had an interesting conversation with her about how a lot of people are getting hurt doing kettlebell during crossfit. She showed me how they do it and its a lot of bouncing and over swinging to get the weight up so they can do more reps. Its the same mentality as kipping pull ups. Using momentum instead of strength to move weight in order to achieve higher reps. I don't like that mentality, I think that mentality can get you into trouble without proper supervision.

Just thought I would inspire you all as I have been inspired. One of my MFP friends is celebrating a 1500 day chain of logging in as of today! I feel great when I make it to double digits. 1500 days is an amazing commitment. She's doing really great, too!

2.5 miles. Just ran around...I don't really even know what my splits were. Had a rough past few days at work. I decided to leave 20 minutes early so I could get in a run. I feel a lot better now. Best medicine I know! Back to the grindstone.

John you look AWESOME! Handsome guy for sure! And so kind of you to share your talents.

Slept straight through until 4:45 again this morning. This is bliss. I would never have guessed it. I promise I won't report every day, but I'll let you know in another week or so if the effect continues.

Heron, did you really tell Jonny to have his wife hold his nuts? You cracked me up! ROTFLMAO!

My dear friend Satina comes for a visit today.

I just heard about Fitbit for Food, which donates food to the needy based on the calories you burn each day. I'm going to checkout fitbit.com/fitforfood (it is an official fitbit site, I think, so it won't let me write here and check it in a different tab). If it is cool, we should all do this! I'll let you know.
  • Just a quick hello to everybody before I head out. I'll check back in later.

John, Looking Good sir in that tux!

Heron, I have heard good things about Kettle bell training I was thinking about doing that once I am released from PT. Looking forward to hearing your experience.

Imabizzybee I am glad you are sleeping better and hope it keeps up, it is really cool about your friend reaching 1500 days in a row for logging in.

Weigh in later today at the doctor's I have eaten a lot of fast food this week in all my travels but have tried to keep within the slow carb diet parameters. We will see how that worked out.

Good afternoon everybody. Had a good weigh in this morning for the FB challenge. Only two more weeks left! I'll be glad when I can just keep track of my weight on Sundays. :)

Heron, I tend to get a lot of my shows from DSW (have a store about an hour away). I don't usually need boots with wide calves as the size 12s I wear usually fit well. It was only after all the extra weight was added on that I ran into issues. Oh and I had to read the sentence about nuts more than once because I was laughing so hard. Hehehe....

Cynthia, great to hear that your sleep is getting better.

So tomorrow night I have a semi-formal event that I'm attending. I'll be there with a few people from work (including a couple big shots). I'm pretty freaked out about it as this is the first time I've ever gone to something like this. I'm sure the dinner will by no means be healthy. I bought a new dress for the event, which fits but definitely doesn't leave much room for overeating. I'll just see how it goes. Maybe my stomach will be so wonky from being freaked out that I won't even be able to eat. Also be interesting to see how well I do in hells for 7+ hours (it's been a while). Cynthia, any suggestions on a good whiskey? I might need one (or many)

I haven't checked in since the 9th and it is no surprise that I'm unmotivated this week. Hit the plateau last week..super frustrating. I should be happy, I've increased calories with no gain. Still... Not excited.

Took a while to read thru everyone's week but it was worth it. Loved Heron's dogs & all her advice. I know Cynthia pointed this out but my Favorite post was about getting your wife to hold your nuts. LOL
It IS Valentine'a Day after all.

Chris, didn't realize that you were doing Carb Nite. Is that the CNS?

Tomorrow we are doing a 9:00 CST Hangout with TJ about Whole 30.
Hope to get some shows out soon.

Great news: completed my first consulting gig to rave reviews & extended contract. Bad news: life was over the top crazy before... Now I'm just flat loco.

Cynthia- whiskey tasting...what a cool thing. Glad it went well.

Jen- how was the shin dig??

Jen: If you can't find the chili/lime spice, let me know and we will send you some.

All: they said walnuts were good for me. Apparently, 4-5 handfuls are not. 1,000 calories +. Sigh... My wife says I have no restraint and they are no,longer allowed in the house. I can turn down pizza and ice cream, but I am a real nut job!

What is the Chili Lime spice for? Yum!
Must try jicama ... Is it that!? Jen's Jicama? Missed it.

Hammer: still pulling for you & your TF mission!

Tom: 12-13 hour days... How you holding up??

Cynthia, bwhahahahaha. Yes I guess I did tell "Jonny to have his wife hold his nuts" Doh! Note to self: "re read replies" Hey, it could have been a lot worse I could have said "your nuts" instead of "the nuts" Do keep us updated on your hemp oil sleep progresses.
That fitbit for food sounds great. Great concept.

John,, Looking sharp! You look mighty dashing in a suit. ;) Hope you had a fun day!

Tom, I will definitely post my kettlebell jouney. Couple of tips though, definitely find a certified RKC trainer and be prepare to do some "interviews" I talked to numerous trainers and was going to meet the top 3 choices, but after our meeting with our trainer Denise, we felt that there was no need to meet the others. :)

Jen, have fun! be yourself and show us some pictures!

Chris 2.5 miles is still better than nothing ;) And that run is more for your mental state than physical state.

Well, I am going to the Chinese New year flower market fair in SF tomorrow with a group of girls. Should be fun and lots of walking.

Carol, no by CNS I meant central nervous system...sorry for the acronym mix-up! I'm still doing IF, no sugar no carbs. I do a couple meals on the weekend where I indulge. I've dropped from 181 in January down to ~168. Lightest I've been since I was in high school. Even better is I feel good and never feel like I'm malnourished which low carb does to me occasionally. I'm not low carb just no grain. I eat a lot of bananas and raisins!

    Did 1 mile 3:00 rests x 5 today

    6:48
    7:02
    7:14
    7:18
    7:19

My pace is definitely 7:15. I'm going to use that as my calculator. Doing a 10k program now. It'll be 20-30 miles a week 5 days a week of running...Will be fun. The program is by Hal Higdon which I guess makes some pretty well respected training regiments. If I can hit a ~45:00 10k I will be happy. 42 is the probably unreachable goal but...aim high!

We also ran a thing called strides. Ran a bell curve on the football field basically. Start slow work your way up to a dead sprint at the 40 - 40 then work back down to slow. They were FUN! I get an adrenaline boost from going full speed.

Happy Valentine's Day! Give someone you love a big hug (well, for me it was my dog Henry, but I got good kisses back so I'm set for the day).

I did sign up for the FitForFood. I think they go by the number of calories you burn in "active" mode, but it doesn't matter. Before they didn't count for anything, and now they feed people. That's a win!

Last night I indulged in chicken wings for dinner. Just 10. Wanted more... Boy were they good (Old Bay seasoning, which is a Baltimore thing - don't know how far west it goes). My friend is allergic to fish and seafood, so this was a treat for her because the restaurant is the only place we know that has a fryer they don't use for fish so it is safe.

Tinder I'm interested in those bell curve strides. I usually sprint the straights and walk the curves at the track. Not now when it is 20 degrees - I'm a fair weather runner. It has to be above freezing with not a speck of ice to slip on. I want to try the slow ramp up & down you did. It is wonderful that you dropped 13 pounds in January! And you weren't big to start with (it would be less notable if you went from 400 to 387). If I could drop 13 pounds by December I'd be thrilled.

Heron, I enjoy kettlebells, but my current gym doesn't use them at all (just free weights and resistance bands). Have fun! Your advice to find a good instructor is wise.

Welcome back, Carol. It is always nice to hear from you! Congrats on the consulting contract. You rock!!!
  • Good morning everybody. I hope I'm ready for tonight. I think I have everything. Will be heading up to Chicago around noon.
I am not even going to bother tracking today. I'm not weighing in tomorrow since I won't be home. So I can get back to plan when I get home. :)

Hi carol and other Jicama fans I think the lime/salt seasoning that Jonny is referring to is Tajin. Which by the way goes great with margaritas and beer.
