Was just reading through all the posts I've missed in last weekes thread. Can't believe I haven't checked in here in days. What a week. I so love Colorado! Basically have been outside most of the day since Tuesday morning. Couple of days skiing, couple of days hiking, a day watching the women's giant slalom event at the world ski championships ( and hiking a good distance up mountain to do so).
Went into a carb back loading type mode..at least until yesterday. Hotel scale (even to maybe half pound down) was fairly kind given I ate dessert Tues and Thurs nights. Yesterday kinda went off rails a bit more, ready to get back into my own routine.
Or something close. Flying home now. Biztrip starts in morning, so not much normal ahead ..tho on solo biz trips I am pretty good about eating. Working out sometimes more challenging, we'll see.0 -
Hello!!!!! I'm back home after a crazy Saturday. Had a wonderful time last night. Talked to a lot of people (so not me), rolled my eyes a few times during some of the speeches (Chicago politicians can't miss out on a good photo op - hehehe) and did my best to not fall flat on my face. I soooooo didn't pick the best shoes for 3 hours of standing but darn it, they looked good. Dinner was very good. Heck, looked almost paleo to me (plenty of meat). Had some dessert as well (there goes the points for sweets), as well as a glass of wine (my first in ages, and probable wasn't the best idea as I felt it right away - good thing I was sitting down).
Overall, it was a great time. It was an honor to be asked to attend.
I have to get back into things. I felt really dehydrated this morning from not drinking at least 64 oz of water yesterday. The rest of my day will just be me drinking water.
That's all for now. Oh, no weigh in or weekly vlog today.0 -
Happy Sunday Folks!
Kim thanks for getting it going. Travel is tough on nutrition and rest sounds like lots o fun too though have a good week on the work front coming up.
Jen sounds like a good days rest is just what you need. Good memories are worth being a bit off the next day.
Late getting on the web today, got my Stronglifts in this morning with Dan at the Ft Stewart Crossfit Gym. Did 150 on Squats, 100 Bench Press, and 120 Barbell Rows, got in all 25 reps at each weight, can't feel a wall approaching yet but that's what the hunt is for. Got back did some post work out nutrition and took a nap. Saturday is usually a rest day for me so with last week sched this is my Saturday and Sunday today. Got to work again tomorrow so back on normal sched.
Great Hangout/{Podcast from Carol, TJ, JT, and Caroline on Whole 30. I couldn't attend yesterday but I saw it this morning.
Thanks all for the Tux Compliments. The Valentines Day Dementia Ward "Club OTL" Dance and Luncheon was a great success. All the guys were dressed to the nines in White Shirt Bow Ties and dark Trousers, We had a Photo Wall with our Memory tree so families that came got pics with their veteran. Lunch was served to them and their families by Rec Staff, no food service trays just plates and silver on table cloths. Menu was lasagna, salad, Sparkling Grape or Cranapple juice in fluted glass. Low light club atmosphere had battery operated candles on the tables for center pieces. You could see the look of pride on their faces to be dressed up again for a special occasion. It was truly an amazing three hours. One of our Kitchen Staff (Brenda) and I were the entertainment with a karaoke show. With my Karaoke Computer failing we ended up putting on the show with an i phone and you tube. Adapt and overcome. Every body happy. and that was the first half of my day Thursday...

Well, I'm right there with you Jen. Way off track for one night. But I love John's reasoning that some memories are worth being off track.
Kim, Colorado sounds AMAZING. I haven't been skiing in years. And I hate the cold. But I would be bundled up and on the slopes tomorrow if I could. Just gorgeous there.
John: what a wonderful time you guys gave your Dementia Ward guys. I can just see them all in their super sharp duds and bustin with pride like you say. My goodness your work is meaningful!
Back to eating clean today. Feels good!0 -
Good morning everybody. I'm still trying to recover from Saturday. I blew yesterday off as far as eating and tracking was concerned. I lot of FB challenge points lost this weekend but oh well. Can't look back. Back to work means back to a regular schedule.0

Happy Presidents Day Folks! Hope all is well with all of you.0

Good Morning all! I fell by the wayside this past week was on the road a lot and had to eat out and made many good choices and a few bad choices, but this week is a new week and I will do better.
Hope all is well with everyone else!0 -
well 30 days TF. Still finding it difficult but too much invested in it to go back. Can't say I feel good yet, in fact if I had known I would be this way mentally I may not have done it. I am not happy, I miss being happy. I want my happy back. I doubt I would get it back by using tobacco again so the incentive isn't there to return, but the internal mental and physical effects of this process have been startling to me. Still figuring it all out. Guess its one of those Other things in life.0

John, I feel for you I do. When I quit smoking, I had quit hard liquor (health reason)before that so I was not happy. I remembered thinking "I can't smoke and I am reduced to drinking this red watery liquid called wine?!" ( since then I've learned to appreciate wine) I'm never going to feel that happiness of smoking and sipping on a stiff drink again! That changes. I promise you. For me it took a long while but I got there. What helped me from giving up and trying to hold it together is my little understanding of brain chemistry. I know that I had inadvertently condition my brain that smoke = happy and it release all the feel good chemicals that regulate ones moods. Take that out and I basically send my brain into a mini depression mode. The brain was dependent on the smoke to let it know to" release happy chemicals" It now has to learn to release feel good chemicals on its own. So be patient, and know that you brain is hard at work trying to get those pathways going. And know that what you are feeling is a mild chemical imbalance, it's not real unhappiness.0

Powerful reflection John. They way you are learning about yourself is astounding. Have you thought about journaling all of this? I can imagine that others might benefit from a book that chronicles the journey. Especially from someone who came out successful on the other side. And there's no doubt that you're going to come out successful on the other side.
What great insight from you Heron. I have so much respect for people who have gone through this process!
Hang in there John! You have so many people rooting for you!!!0 -
Jen, just saw the picture. So pretty.
John, yes I'm rootin' for you!
The scale is finally going down and I'm about 2.5lb to my pre holiday weight. Turns out it was the heavy cream in my coffee that caused me to stall. After 2.5 weeks of coconut cream, my weight started to go down. Let's see how things goes in a few weeks.0 -
We are getting a new foster that was hit by a car because he escaped. Neighbors found him and took him to the vet. The owners told the vet to put him down and she just couldn't put down an otherwise healthy one year purebred husky. The whole hospital pitched in to save that husky! Ain't that something?
She contacted my rescue and our rescue will help with the bill and help with the fostering and placement.
The coincidence is that the vet that went out of her way to assume responsibly for that husky was the same vet that treated my last husky that passed suddenly. She was so kind yet straightforward with us and treated diamond with the utmost care and respect. I will never forget her kindness and how gentle she was with Diamond and I'm glad that I got to thank her today. Another coincidence, out of the 10 surgeons that they have, the surgeon that put that foster back together was the surgeon that removed our other husky's tumor.

Happy Fat Tuesday Folks. Heading for the Doc's in a short bit. Thanks all for the kind thoughts.
Heron -
Congrats on the loss.
Not so sure it's a 'mild' Chemical imbalance. The full scale metabolic revolution is still in progress. For me this is a lot different than when I quit drinking alcohol. I come from a family with a propensity to addiction, (primarily alcohol). But when Zena said the magic words "I'm Pregnant" I made a choice for my child. I did not find the withdrawal as challenging as this. Any way, it's great in sight and I admire you're strength, you are a warrior lass.
A Good Vet, facility, and staff. The pup is blessed to have all of you on his side.
Carol - Much thanks having you in my corner guarantees a winning result. BTW you mentioned your consulting went well. Congrats and What do you consult about?
Tom - Keep at it lad don't worry bout the runway behind you, keep climbing and the throttle tight against the firewall. Smoother sky are ahead.

Good morning everybody.
Heron, thank you for your kind words. That's wonderful about the husky being saved.
John, I'm rotting for ya! I know you can get past all of this and push through.0 -
Woke up thinking about you John. You can totally do this, and what you're going throughcan remind us that all of our trials and tribulations are completely surmountable.
Heron: there are no coincidences. I believe that God had you cross paths with those doctors again. Your genuine gratitude was something they maybe needed to hear. Love the story.
Tom: just joined me and Jennifer… We are climbing back on the wagon after a few speed bumps knocked us off. John's right, no looking back.0 -
Good morning! Today is Fasnacht Day in PA (German for "fast night"), which is our version of Fat Tuesday. Fasnachts are like powdered jelly donuts without the jelly. Fortunately, I don't have access to any and won't go looking. I have enough naughty things anyway. I shoveled snow this morning, and that is all the powder I need.
I think for Lent I might give up Brussels Sprouts. Anyone with me?
I am slamming through research for work. Yay! Now I just need to figure out a good time to sit and write it up.

Awesome Cynthia! I bet you are a warrior out there with that snow shovel!
John: I forgot to answer your question. I am in education consultant. I can show people had to teach more effectively. It has a lot to do with how you engage the learner, what you know about them and where you set expectations (always very high), processing time, who has the language load of the activity and how much the student understands about the brain friendliness of what you're asking them to do. I currently work with teachers, principals and our district leaders. But I have spoken at enough conferences that I'm getting calls to work with other districts and even homeschooler parents. It's my other passion and my husband thinks I need to start podcasting about that instead.
He doesn't realize that if I give up F2F, I'll gain so much weight and slip into a depression and won't be able to work anywhere!!
Wouldn't want to live without my fat to fit community buddies.0 -
Cynthia, I so love Brussels sprouts that giving them up would be harder than giving up candy. Esp as I seldom eat candy, and eat Brussels a couple or more times a week. I'm givng up alcohol for Lent with an identified exception during our yearly national convention.
Actually I'm using Lent as the excuse...I find I stay on track, and make much better food choices when I'm not drinking alcohol (not to mention avoid the empty calories). I didn't drink in January (again an accepted "excuse" month for not drinking in my industry), drank some last week in the window between January and Lent. Now back on plan.

Well time to climb on the wagon and make good choices again. I will get it done!
One good thing, the doc cleared me to start shooting again, bad news it is supposed be -10 tomorrow.
John I am pulling for you! My father quit smoking after 40 years of smoking two packs a day. If he could do it you can do it!
imabizzybee I am with you on the brussel sprouts.
Hope everyone had a good day today and will have a better day tomorrow!

It's Wednesday.
Tom, Carol is right. Join us in getting back on track. I'm not sure how well I'm doing, but I'm trying. No looking back!!!! Great news that you can get out shooting again.
Carol, DON'T LEAVE US!!!!! Don't listen to your hubby. What does he know anyway? Hehehe.... Just foolin'.
Cynthia, I just started eating brussel sprouts (and I liked them!). I can't stop eating them already! Although a fasnacht sounds awfully good right now.
Kim, MillerCoors (that name sounds so weird to me) was plastered all over the hall of the event I was at Saturday night. I thought of you walking around your work campus. So does MillerCoors have a question on the job application about your favorite beer? Do you have to drink to work there? Sorry, I had to ask. I'm just being silly.

Well Ash Wednesday is here, the start of Lent. Haven't decided what to give up but I'll think of something. I am pretty sure it won't be Brussels Sprouts though. They are a dietary staple for me. Have to think on it a bit.
Thanks all for the great thoughts. It does help.
Carol - Very Koo=EL on the consulting. If you do what you love you'll love what you do. Works for me every day. I'm with ya on the F2F group, I get far more than I could ever give from this community.
Thought for the Day- "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return"
0 -
So John, I think I have a few returnees under my couch. I found them when I was looking for my dog's ball last night. I'm doing dust-battle in a few minutes.
Honestly, I try not to give up things for Lent. Not even Brussels sprouts (which I do like). What I try to do is to commit to something new for the 40 days. Like writing a letter each day (a missive, not just A or , or practicing piano, or trying a new food. One year I tried to learn to drink coffee - and that was an epic fail. Love the smell, can't stand the taste. This year I'm committing to find at least two things each day I can get rid of (clothes, kitchen gadgets, etc.). I'm purging!
Have a great day everyone!0 -
Whoa! The system turned a B into an emoticon!
Oh, because I typed a B and a )

Hey Jen...not surprised, MillerCoors has a pretty strong diversity and inclusion initative...shows in both number of women/ people of color in the company ( much much greater than any other bev alcohol company I am aware of), but also in equality/LGBT efforts(a very active employee affinity group and in donations and sponsorships).
But no we don't have to drink. We have plenty of opportunities, but no corporate pressure at all. But we also have some olds cool individuals that can make comments. My team is well aware of how I eat and why Im not drinking, but as with every company there's an *kitten* here and there. Nothing in employment app, but our personnel announcements generally include the question of fav beer, fav music, hobbies, fact others wouldn't know...silly feel good get to know you stuff.

Cynthia...what I better idea then giving something up...doing a new good habit. Love the idea of purging every day. May borrow that idea.0
-
<sarcasm on> Oh, I am soooo offended that you would be talking about religion in a food and exercise group. Oh what will I ever do!! You should be ashamed... LMAO <sarcasm off> I like the purging idea, sadly I have been doing that almost nonstop for the last 4 months...
Just could not resist, and I think Jen is rubbing off on me. Speaking of such, where are those pictures from a week or two back Jen?
Yes I am still here and reading, just not much I believe I can contribute every day. Staying even on the weight, not walking nearly enough, and slowly getting a handle on my out of control stress. Mostly, and not without some help. I keep trying new food items each week. Last week was Zucchini Bread, Almond Butter (made it myself), which then went into Almond Butter Blondes. I have some mini onions left over from a Beef Stew I tried out, so I need to come up with something for them.
You all amaze me, and I am so thankful for this group. No sarcasm on that one.
