Good Morning, Everyone! Today is Ash Wednesday which is the start of lent for a lot of people! Now I’m going to be equal opportunity when it comes to holidays...Meaning I will do something for all religions on their holidays, not just Christianity. BUT I am using an United States Calendar so if I miss one that is important I apologize! Besides, holiday themed challenges can be fun! So in honor of the first day of lent....

Today’s challenge: Is to give up an activity that you want to do today and replace it with an exercise!

For example: I like to watch an hour of TV. Well, Today I am giving that up and I will go for an hour walk instead.

It has to be something that isn't really important that you do. Like watching TV, playing video games, just being a couch potato, etc etc.

I'm so happy that people are still active on this group! I go more responses than I thought I would, to be honest. That makes me a really happy camper! Also due to my sleep schedule, I will more than often post these around midnight everyday. That way people from other timezones can get a chance as well. (I'm a night owl.) But I am happy that is for sure!

I wish you luck with this challenge and have an awesome Wednesday!

  • Love this idea, we were just talking about lent at work and what to give up. I will be giving up an hour to go to the gym this evening :)

I will give up an extra hour of sleep to start my Tough Mudder training. I don't think I will work out the whole hour- it's pretty intense at just 30 minutes. I will meditate/pray the second half hour. :)

Not sure what I am going to give up...perhaps laziness... But I am going to ride my stationary bike this afternoon for the first time in about 2 years.

I'm not sure how to do this... I work until 5, will go to the gym from 5:30-6:30, go home and make dinner for my hubby and kid, bathe said kid, read to said kid, and put said kid to bed and then go to bed myself. The only activity in-between is watching Jeopardy, lol! I can't give up Jeopardy; it's my daily brain boost! ... so, I think I'll compromise: During every Jeopardy commercial break, I will do ab exercises! It works, yeah?

Meganepreston I have heard of that! My brother is planning on joining one in a couple months. It looks like a lot of fun!

MidwaysT that works! As long as you give up time from doing something that isn't important to exercise!

MelWick524 That it does! You are giving up that time sitting in front of the TV to do exercises! Now Jeopardy will be your rest time between the exercises

I'm guilty of getting lost in books. A wonderful guilty pleasure. I will start setting an alarm and devote the remaining time to exercise.

    You are not alone x.x
When I read a book....if I think I can finish it I will stay up til 6-7 am or later to finish it. Then hate myself later because I will only have a couple hours sleep to take on the day. What you could do is get a free audiobook and put it on your mp3. Then you can listen to it as you exercise!
  • I confess I'm addicted to Netflix, I usually watch an episode or two of supernatural before I do my homework. Today instead I'll devote that time to some Turbo Jam and yoga.

I exercised after dinner instead of lounging and watching tv.

Ok- did the challenge! I am going to die in the tough mudder haha. Guess I'll have to hope some cute boy can carry my unfit self to the finish line haha. Looks like I'll be doing lots of these workouts in my future :)
  • Alright did the challenge!

I gave up tv time and practiced what the challenge is for tomorrow. I am worn out to say the least!
  • Done before I even knew the challenge :) I gave up TV to go to the gym (I just watched tv while exercising...is that cheating?)

Not really. Instead of sitting you were up and moving.
  • Walked on my stepper during the Today Show to start the day with 500 steps
  • Went on a run before preparing dinner instead of television; talked about my feelings instead of emotional eating all day.

Warrior4brain that is the way to do it! That is an excellent start to kicking the emotional eating habit!

jmc1025 That is awesome! It is hard to talk yourself out of giving up. It happens to me all the time. But with you talking yourself out of it shows you have the strength to accomplish your goals!

I gave up an hour of reading for meal prep and an ab workout. It felt great this morning to not have to rush and pack my lunch/snacks for the day!
