Running outdoors, come rain or shine!

Does anyone else run outdoors even if the weather isn't favourable? I don't have a gym membership, nor do I have a treadmill at home. I run in the dark or the light, and while I won't make a huge effort to go outside if it's pouring down, it has to be very heavy to stop me going out. I've been caught in snow and hail and been so determined that I've stayed out for my workout rather than heading home. The time it was very icy I had to drop my pace a lot just so I didn't slip over!
My shoes and clothes will dry and I can have a hot shower, but I am so determined and am enjoying getting out so much that bad weather won't stop me!

Indeed. skin is waterproof
The main thing for me is my temperature, and if I'm going on trails for a long run carrying some survival kit. By long run I'm now in the 15-20 mile range, so that's a couple of years away for you. So on those runs I'll carry a camelbak with change of clothes, jacket, survival blanket, flask and some food.
It really is a quesstion of adapting to the conditions, and as you say if it's slippy then very short paces.
This season I'm investing in some Inov8 foul weather kit though.0 -
If I am going to get soaked I do not bother, other than that everything else is fair game. The only training run I started and then abandoned due to weather was after a night of freeze thaw cycles which left the ground like an ice rink in the morning. After nearly going over 6 times in the first 200m, I turned around. An hour of that was just going to be dangerous. The cold I don't mind because I have enough cold weather compression gear to keep me toasty, especially if I go a bit faster.0

If it's raining hard when I'm due to go out for a run, I'll generally reconsider. Everything else is fair game. I don't care if it rains on me when I'm running, I just don't want to start my run in the rain.
I've dealt with 37C+ (100F+) days, electrical storms (Ok not the smartest with a metal plate in my head) and nearly horizontal rain so far. Everything else has been relatively normal weather. (Damn I've been lucky with the weather!)0 -
I only stay in when the air quality is poor/hazardous. Unfortunately, I'm training during 'yellow dust' season here in Korea. But fortunately, I have only had to postpone one run so far.0

It's nice to hear that there are others who also love to run outside. I can't stand the gym and thoroughly look forward to my runs outdoors, even if the weather is less than optimal0

I think a couple of years is somewhat optimistic! I'm aiming for a 10k by the end of the year I am in awe if anyone who can run such a distance!0 -
It took me 18 months to get from wondering on the eighth one minute interval if this had been a good idea or not, to running a half marathon.
Six months on from there I'm running that distance pretty regularly.0
