Could LCHF help Whitney (My Big Fat Fabulous life) ?

Whitney W. Thore -380 lb TLC reality star is becoming a 'positive image' magnet for overweight young women everywhere. She has a No Body Shame website now too.
First, she's a gold mine for TLC with her personality..funny cute girl, loving family (understanding droll mom, stern dad as the 'foil'), best friends (loyal GF, and BFF Buddy who may marry her) it's no brainer easy to film show ( I think mom is 'fed' her lines)
We know she has serious PCOS, and gained 200 pounds..and that she STARVED on water, and lettuce for 8 months to lose 100 of it & was so miserable she said she'd rather be fat.
What if Whitney and a Keto Guru were shown in her 2nd season? If LCHF eating could make a difference..what an amazing lesson to MILLIONS of young women watching her who will do anything to lose weight.
At "1200 calories, egg white only, low fat only" diets these girls are harming their bodies NOW at age 19-30, it will haunt them later when they want a safe pregnancy and healthy babies. They may have serious problems even getting pregnant.
How can we help influence this next generation away from the low fat lifestyle?
Maybe Whitney is the way? Ideas?

I actually love this idea, though I don't know anything about the show. I'm sure it would be a really hard sell, particularly given the show's title, but it could be interesting to start or be part of a movement...0

Think it would be amazing to do this. We watched her show once. It was very funny. There are full episodes online.0

Pre-diabetic, PCOS, obese... yep... that's a recipe for someone who will benefit from low-carb. Will it ever happen? Probably not.0

I'm hoping you ladies with PCOS knowledge might share thoughts, since the first season was all about fat+dancing..TLC will be on the lookout for topics to reel the audience in ..and you bet this is a HOT one..her weight, is she trying? will Buddy love her more thinner?
My lab tech at the VA Clinic was talking about PCOS after she saw Whitney.. said 2% of population have it...seems small until I figured if there are 320 Million Americans..that is 6,400,000 women!!!
She seems to read her email/tweets so I am sure it's being suggested already. Who wouldn't want to share this great news?0 -
Going back through my old medical records I read into them I had PCOS. They did not call it that back then. Everything I had was classic and their treatments the same. Everything now removed. What I find interesting is even though this was an ovary issue the PCOS person still has the weight issue after everything has been removed. Sigh. Throw the sink at me PCOS, Hypothyroid, old age.
I have a twitter account. I only used it one time. I wonder if it would be worth it to figure how to tweet her about this.0 -
she comes across to me as more of fat accepting person and doesn't really particularly want to change. i tried to watch the show once at the gym-i did watch one episode but that's all, so maybe my impression is wrong.0

PCOS is typically hormonally related, and ovaries are not the only hormone system in the body, so it stands to reason that removing ovaries won't fix it. Hormones are convertible, in a priority system, so cortisol and adrenaline can steal progesterone and convert it for their own needs, which is why the system can get so out of balance. Underlying issues have to be address, not just the one that raises the red flag, because it might not be the real issue.
I have PCOS, too. And hypothyroid. My endocrinologist is the one who put me on this path of eating. I am a woman who even large, celebrates my life and my curves. Would I be any more or less happy at a lower weight? It doesn't really impact it that much, because an unhappy fat woman who loses 100 pounds can end up being an unhappy thin woman. I decided I was tired of waiting for _________ fill in the blank, to be happy.
I'll be healthier and feel better dropping some pounds, but it wont' change my head and heart along the way unless I choose to address than separately. Again, I don't know anything about this woman and how much she is ready for doing anything for her health, so I can't even fathom speaking to her about it. Not only that, her twitter could easily be a marketing gimmick.0 -

2% is low. I've seen more evidence of 5-10% of women with it. So, the "2% of population" is on the very, very low end of that estimation, and understates it by including the whole population (it's not really possible for men to have PCOS).
I agree with Goat, though. She's a perfect candidate for keto, but from the sound of it, she's not interested in trying it. I wouldn't mind being pleasantly surprised, though.0 -
I love this show. I love her attitude about life and embracing her size and curves. However, the last episode she was diagnosed with pre-diabetes so I'm hoping she will make some health changes and she does want to lose weight. I think she wants to be a big girl, but a smaller one.
I don't know if any of the medications she takes for PCOS can cause weight gain, but I was diagnosed with Lupus at the age of 10 and paralyzed at the age of 15. Prednisone and chemo are what they give me to get it under control. I gained A LOT of weight due to the prednisone and I wasn't eating (had a tube down my nose until I would eat). Gaining weight and it's not your fault is one of the most depressing things ever - so I know what she's going through from that aspect.
She could/should make healthier choices. One episode I saw her make a PB and MAYO sandwich! She said that is a staple in the South. Up here we put a banana or jelly with our PB.
They addressed her weight during this season - I just hope if the show gets renewed (I hope it does) they put her on a better eating path along with her exercise and dance.0 -

The worst part of that sandwich is arguably the bread. (Though the idea of mixing PB and mayo is kind of gross sounding.)
No, medications used for PCOS (that actually help it) don't cause weight gain. The only exception is the birth control pill, and if the doctor is using that to treat one's PCOS, then they need a new doctor (the one that most commonly causes weight gain is the standard, estrogen-based one, which is generally counterproductive to treating PCOS). Weight gain and issues losing weight are symptoms of PCOS, itself. Medications, whether directly or indirectly, aid in weight loss in PCOS.0 -
tumblr would implode and label her a traitor0

PB &J is the thing. Or bananas. Mayo is awesome. But it goes in slaw and tater salad.
Peanut butter and mayo are yummy by themselves. Together...er...no. Not even trying that.

My ex-husband (born and raised in northern New York state) used to eat peanut butter and Miracle Whip sandwiches (mayo would work in a pinch, but he preferred MW), so I don't think it's a southern thing. In fact, I haven't seen anyone do that since I moved down here (Louisiana for 7 years, Texas for the past 2 years).0

I am from Canada and we were raised on PB and MW sandwiches! My mom still loves them!0

The first time I watched that show my first thought was wondering if she was going to start eating LCHF. I don't have PCOS but obviously learned through my time low carbing that its a diet for those with it. In the last episode it was determined she was pre-diabetic so if the PCOS was the nudge in that direction, that determination will get her to a dietician.
I got the vibe, its not about the image of being fat, its about being healthy. She was comfortable in her body, but seemed to acknowledge that some weight loss would be beneficial to her health and is fine with never being 130 pounds.0 -

As a kiddo, I had a neighbor friend who would eat Mayo and PB sandwiches. It almost made me gag. LOL I lived in a suburb of Dallas, Texas at the time. I thought she was insane. Nice to know now it wasn't just her. LOL0 -
What I expect them to do for audience attraction is to keep volatile events and topics going. When Season 2 starts they will address whatever is trending 'hot topic', but first they HAD to establish "nice fat girl is confident" THEN they can expand. Many of these reality shows have serious scripting & suggestions.
…Like "Little Women LA"..a group of Little People, most are entertainers in real life already, used to the camera, shown having fights and fancy dinners, party events all the time. They are encouraged to say inflammatory things…nobody would watch after a few boring episodes, very "Hollywood"..the only thing I like is they get to earn money, but dislike it has to be in public ..a life performance.
If Whitney had no personality and quirky facial expressions it would be "My 400 lb. life..like the REAL humans in the medical shows.0 -
I love PB and J, hell I love PB just off the spoon which is how I am eating now or in a low carb tortilla, but the thought of PB with Mayo or MW - would make me gag. There's a guy at the accessible gym I go to and he eats some weird combos. He ate a PB and BLUE CHEESE sandwich. BLAH!!0
