"Comparison is the thief of joy"

Sonic Death Monkey is so right.

On the other hand, Under Armour just acquired MFP. Under Armour says it wants "a beachhead within a community [MFP] of people who want to be measured." Under Amour thinks clothes that measure (electronic apparel) are in our future, rather than wearable devices.

We seem conflicted. We spend thread after thread comparing pace per mile, race times, oxygen uptake, food value in and out, etc. We really do want to be measured apparently.

What about the joy?

Couldn't access the WSJ article, but found a Forbes one instead: http://www.forbes.com/sites/tarunwadhwa/2015/02/09/under-armour-myfitnesspal-and-why-brands-want-to-know-everything-about-your-body/

I mean, it doesn't sound awful. Could be more useful than the creepy as *kitten* Facebook marketing I get, like, "Kiss Me I'm a Kristine" around St. Patrick's Day. Eeeek. But nothing mentioned in the Forbes article about electronic apparel/measuring anything.

I mean, if UA wants to look at forum posts and what I eat and what I weigh so they can better attune their products, then they should also know: HEY UNDER ARMOUR, MAKE WOMEN'S RUNNING CLOTHES (leggings and shorts!) WITH F*****G POCKETS, OKAY? That is all :)

+1 for the f*****g pockets! I actually have a pair of women's running shorts with five pockets. When I bought them the salesman seemed surprised that everyone was rushing to his stall to buy them because they were the only ones on the market.

Re comparison I suppose comparing yourself to others is one of the points of racing, and another one is comparing yourself to yourself in other races. Just going out and having a nice run in the sunshine (as I'm just about to do) is another source of joy but not the only one.

However, a company measuring my body for marketing purposes sounds creepy.

I think a couple of my UA shorts have pockets...
My capris dont... ON has a pair of capris with a pocket on the leg, that's neat - useless for running I think but great for walking.

Interesting, because I don't see comparison as the thief of joy at all! On the contrary, I find it incredibly inspirational to see the achievements of others. Guess I'm a glass-half-full type of person.

As for the future of sports apparel, I just want shirts that don't stank eternally.

Doug said it in one of the other threads in the group, I'm not sure if Doug attributed to Teddy...

Wash your running stuff separately, pour some white vinegar in there too.

Thanks! Separately always. I wash them, soak them, rewash them. It's only certain dri shirts, but phew! I'll have to see if I can buy white vinegar here, I've heard from friends it's hard to find, but will look. And I've tried sports stores for the special detergent/soap for tek apparel and they definitely don't sell it here. :-(

You should be able to find white vinegar in a grocery store.
It's an ingredient in quite a few recipes plus a great weed killer so check a lawn & garden store too.

We definitely wash our workout clothes separately, but haven't tried vinegar; will give it a whirl. Thanks for the tip!

Yes, I know, but I live in greece and it's not so easy to find here. I had a friend trying to find it one time (although she moved away now), maybe I'll ask if she had any luck.

Other kinds of vinegar would probably work too - we mainly use white vinegar because it's cheap.

I use a sport detergent and wash my running stuff separately, and it all smells great... until I have to wash it again in a couple weeks ;) The detergent is a bit expensive, but it lasts forever!
