Will post more tonight. Boarding a flight to Vegas for a conference.
Grrrrrrr!!!!!
Just know that I read everyone's everything. I have things to say!!!!

Carol I think I know what happened. you cannot use your phone's emoji otherwise it will cut off where you last use the emoji. I learned that the hard way. After many attempts and I still forget sometimes.0
-
Oh Heron! thanks for that tip. Too bad. I love emojis!
Okay, I'm in Las Vegas for a conference. So far as I can tell, they have not set up the Tough Mudder course yet. LOL
Kelly, again, welcome! It is wonderful to hear your story. Congrats on your loss. You keep our Mark in line over there! It is really nice to see you guys supporting each other and here supporting all of us!
Heron: I was exactly where you are last year. I was doing great with CNS but then I stalled. I wasn't perfect but I was working hard at it and giving up a great deal. I burned out on the whole thing. I ended up going overboard and off track for way too long. (gained a lot in that 'off track' time period). I eventually started making progress again when we did the Whole30 and the Weight Loss Challenge together. I don't know if it was that I stopped obsessing about macros, that I was getting more sleep, drinking more water, titrating back my workouts, walking more, all the whole foods…. probably ALL of the above! But I lost 12 of the 16 lbs I gained in 2014. That took 8 weeks but I got to eat fruit! Anyway… I'm with Kim: I think you are right to give yourself a break. CNS might work better after a break. Your attitude about eating intuitively is way healthier than what I did. Keep being awesome Heron! We all have ups and downs and your "down" is way higher than many people's "up"
John: I went to one charity event the night before the Paleo FX conference last year. It wasn't a BBQ. But it was AWESOME because it was a small event and so you could talk to a lot of the folks we follow. Not sure if the BBQ will be like that though. Caroline and I are coming but we are only in town Friday night through early Sunday. We will have to coordinate! We will be going to the Expo only and hoping to meet up with anyone who can meet up that weekend.
Kevin & Kris: I like the vitamin D/sunshine advice. Has to have some effect, right? Even if it is only in our minds. Heck, the whole idea of winter blues might have a lot to do with how we perceive our surroundings… so I can see a daily dose of sunshine (or even fake sunshine) having some type of positive effect. Worth a try.
And congrats Kris on the run! I run like a turtle in molasses and Im not even hurt. Go Lady!!
Update on me: I went off to Mexico to hang with my cousins (childhood besties) and to see my nephew get married. Arrived ready to wear my cocktail dress but my cousins had other ideas. They glammed me up big time! Not my dress, and I didn't do my own hair or make up. (Make up was scary if you ask me… felt like a member of KISS.) But thanks for the kind words everyone. I'll post a pic here.
I ate EVERYTHING I've been missing and I ate that way for FOUR days! It was gluttonous but fabulous. I'm taking a page from Tim Grabow's book: not even going to weigh myself for a few weeks. I know I'm inflamed, holding water and maybe some extra fat but I want to normalize before I assess the damage. I've been eating clean again for 2 days and I feel good. That food was yummy but made me sluggish!
Sorry for this crazy long post. I have more to say but it is beyond ridiculous already!0 -
Thank you everyone for the welcome! Went crazy today not going out for a walk but considering I wasn't out walking at all 2months ago... am pacing myself. I so enjoy having Mark in my life and knowing him. Would like to think we balance each other out nicely :-)
Today I treated myself to a set of 3 new flex bands. My mother accessorizes wirh jewelry. .. me with exercise bands lol!
Hope everyone has a great night!0 -
Ha.. exercise band jewelry… love it Kelly. Have a great night!0
-
John, you silly boy. ONE Monday a week is too many.
Kelly, I'll be doing the same thing once I drop down a size. Get rid of the 'fat' clothes is just another way to keep motivated.
Carol, you totally rocked the dress!!!! Hey its a wedding. You're supposed to go all out, right? Oh and I didn't realize you were on a recon mission for us. No TM course yet? It's only like 7 months away! They better get busy.
Oh, happy Wednesday to everybody. My lunch yesterday wasn't the best of choices. I had some faux Chinese and wow did I feel bloated. Guessing all that sodium and msg wreaked havoc on me. I felt a little off about 30 minutes after but then was ok (other than the bloating). No more of that! Go get a salad today!!!!!
Off to do the getting ready for work (class) thing.

Hey guys,
In Chicago. Got nearly 5 miles of city walking in yesterday. A mile & half office to hotel. Another 3.5 ish miles before dinner. I love walking the city. Usually just go up and down Michigan ave. last night was up Rush St to Division and back by way of Michigan. Will walk to office in a bit.0 -
Happy Wedneday! Yes, Jen! Recon!! I'll need any advantage I can get come October!
So I just woke up & i've been running around so much that I was a little disoriented and not sure where it was. Like one of those movies where you wake up in Las Vegas and you're not sure what happened. Only there was no alcohol or strippers involved.
It's about 10 till five here so I'm going to find out if the hotel has a gym. I have not worked out in two weeks… Two weeks!!
Here is some great news: I and now certified to be a principal. I took my certification exam just before I went to Mexico (five hour exam, I took 4 1/2 of those) and I just got my results!
John: I thought about you and your primal expert certification when I went to take the test. How would hammer approach this? I attacked every question analyzing and strategizing, weeding out distractors with military like precision!
Anyway that was a big milestone for me. I still have my thesis and another four months of classes, but there is light at the end of the tunnel!
And no I don't want to be a principal… But I should probably be one for a little while. What I do is advise principals so it helps quite a bit to walk a mile in their shoes.
Go have a fantastic Wednesday people!!!0 -
Happy Wednesday Folks. Hope ll is well.
Good to see ya Carol, Have Fun on the RECON mission. Note the weather, temps etc should be similar in Oct. So was the Dress you rocked out so well in, Green or Black?
Heron : dittos to what Carol and Kim said, you are doing very good work there kiddo. While our inner voices can be our best critic it is rarely our best coach. Coaches have to critique, teach and encourage. Takes some one from outside to do all that well, because no matter how detached you may think you are, you cannot see your life, movements, etc from the outside angle others can. It's why I say Life is a Team Sport.
All Righty then Folks Certain I missed some stuff but gotta roll, This week will be the conclusion of my 7hr plus sleep experiment. Will eval and post results.

2nd time walking to work today! Can't wait, wish it was warmer, but itching to go0
-
Snow day here in Oklahoma. Supposed to be nice next week!0
-
Got off work early tonight got home to do some veggie cooking, Spag Squash, Cuali Mash, got my Breakie Casserole going as well with Eggs, Ground Turkey, Ground Pork, Onions, Mushrooms, olives and Sweet Potatoes.
Happy Walks Kim I loved Rush Street back in the day. It would be intgeresting to see how its changed (if it has)
Carol - I'm betting the test didn't have a chance. Cause even though every plan goes down the tubes with first contact with the enemy, its adapt, overcome and win. I'm not surprised. Good work, you've def earned a Well Done.
- You're right on the walking a mile in their shoes, seems to me Principals are the First line Administrators. in the system, That's a lot different than being a supervisor. requires a different way of thinking at times I suspect.0 -
Good morning! It's 'Friday'!
I need to get caught up on all the posts this week. I'll do that tonight before my show. Have a great day everybody.0 -
Happy Thursday Folks Officially the 4th and last Monday of the week. Although it may be The First Friday for some. Temps here were in the 80's yesterday and will be cooling the next couple days to high in 60's, Bummer on the snow etc for you folks up north.
Kelly - enjoy those work walks they will get better and better as the weather warms.
Jen - have a great day and rock that Podcast.

Hmr - me going for walks is great for throwing off friends, family and coworkers! Mark and I have been having good laughs over it. Feel great from yesterday, have a high of 50 today (heatwave!) and going to repeat the walk again today! Can hardly wait

Thanks everybody for your encouragement and advice. John, I can related to the coach analogy. I was that kid that never thought that I was learning fast enough and good enough and I'd work really hard then burn out, even though my coaches was telling me that I was making progress. I had to compare to someone better and stronger. It's a vicious cycle and I am doing it with my weight. I'll take a small break and focus on not stressing out on the macros.
Carol, congrats!! Did you hear that story about a principle who thought he was gonna get pranked by seniors and instead got hand written notes about how he had inspire them! Awwww
Btw we can't seem to find the episode in the whole 30 on your YouTube channel. Can you or anyone post a link here? Thanks0 -
Interesting couple of days...had my check in with AJ yesterday. We're both pretty pleased with my current progress - despite still maybe needing to dial in the macros a bit. Tho I told her that as long as I'm happy with my progress and eating more or less intuitively I'm really not willing to obsess over the details and getting fully dialed in. She agreed (and reminded me that probably my number one opportunity is a bit more consistency in the gym). She also suggested trying a blow out, all care's to the wind carbNite every 4 or 5 weeks. Says this causes a whoosh in most women, and is a stress reliever, cortisol reset at times. But if it causes me to stall for more than a couple of weeks, not to make a habit.
Then today I had an appt to go over bloodwork with an functional medicine doc. She pretty much told me the results scream thyroid dysfunction. Does not think it is due to my diet - In fact she loves how I eat. Rather thinks it has been a long time chronic issue. She's somewhat right. I've always wondered about it. I have issues with being cold, have a fairly low basil temperature, dry skin, thin hair, struggle with weight. In past, when doctors have tested, I have been at the very high end of the normal range for TSH (high is an indicator of underactive thyroid - your body is trying to get it going). My current number 4.1, the top of the range (been told that multiple times in past). She wants patients in 1-2 range. Free T3 at very bottom of range (never tested that before). So guess who is going to be experimenting with natural thyroid. Have a prescription, have to titrate up from 1/4 pill once a day to twice possibly to 1/2 pill twice day and see how things go. Lots of thyroid issues in my family, so not surprised. More surprised no one has addressed in past, despite my questions. Explains also why I so easily go into cortisol issues and the such if I don't sleep or keep stress in check or work out too much.
Really liked her. Interesting to be at a doctor so aligned to my thinking. Knowledgeable about paleo/primal. Thinks Chris Kresser is a rock star.
Oh and she wants gluten out of my diet. Thinks it may be contributing to the thyroid antibodies. Guess my gluten-y carbnites are gonna have to be modified a bit. Drat. (then again I went 2 years gluten free)

Sunny day today forecast has highs in the upper 60s I can't wait!0

Happy Friday Folks!
Kim - very interesting on the Doc, Bummer on the Thyroid.
One of my our Chaplains at the Hospital had Gastric Bypass surgery a couple years ago, he is now encountering some of the same issues, and some others as well, not looking healthy, weight loss gone a bit too far.
After a long talk managed to get him to ask his doc for a Consult with an Endocrinologist Saw him yesterday again and his appointment is soon.
- I had figured his issue was not getting enough nutrients absorbed due to the bypass actually emailed him some pubmed research that showed him it was a likely side effect from his surgery.
- But his mind set would not respond to seeing a Naturopath Doc. So get him to the next best thing.
Oh K Dokay Folks! IT's another Funtastic Friday Get out there and Get Some!

Happy Friday everyone!! Today I get to run the 55 miles to town and get Kelly, who will probably now walk me into the dirt trail. Heck, she can walk a 15min/mile pace now (4mph). I am now thinking I do not want a Fitbit as I am positive I cannot handle the competition
Still debating on the scale challenge, mostly on the "I'm going to do it" side. Funny how you get attached to things like that.
Will go off the rails a little bit this weekend as Kelly and I are going to Cafe Rio for Lunch on Saturday. Will be nice for the break, and it has been a while since I have done that.
Kim... throid bummer. My family has it, but is usually on the overactive side. My mother had hers removed decades ago and taken medicine since then. One side effect is that she cannot cry (or keep her eyes moistened), so she has to use drops all the time. Lot of advances in that area since the 60's.0 -
Kim - my mom has a sluggish thyroid and while it has been a struggle, with the right diet and exercise she lost weight and and got healthier. Just now is the daily challenge to work hard at keeping it off0
-
Mark I can't wait for this weekend and I think we both earned a small fudge lol. Weekend with you and the girls sounds like heaven! Oh I also get to shop for smaller clothes again!
I blew my Fitbit goal out of the water yesterday and I feel every step of it!! Still going to walk to work today but doing it slower.
Ready to toss my scale for a couple months. My weight is pretty much in the same 5 lb range it has been in since January 1. But I have lost 15 inches since January 1. Will take the inches and I know the scale will catch up later0 -
Thanks everyone for thyroid notes. One of the other interesting things was she said with new patients and my kind of labs, she works on diet, sleep and stress first, before going to a prescription. But after our interview and even coming here and looking over my logs, she felt I've already done the diet, sleep and stress work...so time for the drugs. She spent a good 40-45 minutes in the room with me. Such a different experience than going to a "normal" doctor. Wished more of her patients had my eating (the whole foods, primarily meat and veggies, healthy fats) style. Even used the term we have access to far too many "substances that look like food"
Tho' honestly now that I have the prescription and have cut an already small pill into 1/4, hard to imagine that tiny little thing would have any impact in this body.0 -
Kim, that is so interesting on your Thyroid. Yes that is a bummer but you have such a handle on it already. Also, I like AJ's blow out carb-nite idea. Can I do that even if I'm not going CNS? LOL Keep up all the great things you are doing. Let us know how that teeny tiny pill treats you.
John - I'm with Heron, great analogy on the principal thing. Not sure I'm up to the challenge but it won't be this next year anyway. Need to keep hacking away at my current objectives in education.
Heron, I'm about to move the video over to the FRN channel. Sorry, didn't even realize I recorded it from my own channel. Not sure why I even HAVE a youtube channel. I think it came with my gmal/google account.
Kelly, have some fudge for me!
Jen - sooooo need to get caught up on your shows!!
Have a great Friday folks. RED TOP!!

Here is the video Heron. You can see it through the F2F page for the show now. I edited it up a bit for the podcast which is also here: www.fat2fithq.com/121. Thanks for tuning in!!0

Kim, it sounds like you have a great doctor.
Mark and Kelly, have fun!
John, good for you for trying to get help for your chaplain even though it seems like he is pretty set in his ways.
I'm still here, trying to be good, haven't walked much this week. I'm going to try not weighing myself for 2 week and just see what happens. Going to contact one of the coaches from body io but I don't know if I want to pay for a health coach depending on the fee, I dont think I can justify paying a coach for 5 months if I am not making significant progress.
I'm also dealing with my boderline anemia right now. Had that since I was kid, not serious to a point where I'd need medical help or supplements but need to make sure that I getting plenty of iron through my diet. I've been feeling tired for the past few weeks and it just occurred to me that I wasn't eating much iron again. So I'm going to take supplements and start keeping track of iron in foods like I used to. Or just take a liver supplement lol.
Going to a Chinese New Year parade in San Francisco tomorrow! Yay!
Oh and my foster's cone can finally be taken off! You know what is sad about him? It's that he has resigned and accepted that his life is just bathroom and crate. He do his business or sit with me outside and he know he has to go back into his crate. He'll just walk in to it, no whining or anything. He is such a good boy! But Arturo and I feels so bad for him! His muscles are also weak from weeks of bed rest but since he can't walk I'm having him to "puppy push ups" and core exercises by sitting up with his 2 front paws off the ground. He is smart and learned those in less than 2 minutes!0 -
Gorgeous day, but 3 degrees this morning and 10 inches of snow on the ground. I'm a bit sore from lots of shoveling, but I enjoy doing it so don't really mind. I finally get to walk to the farmer's market today. Yay!
I've been diligently writing my paper, and made good progress. First draft to some readers for comment today. That is a big win. Now I'll work on some other writing until I get feedback. Such a process. Wish I had a standing desk. I do some writing at the kitchen counter, but the tile floor is hard after a while.
Heron, that parade will be so much fun! I love making dumplings for Chinese New Year, but those are a no-no if you are avoiding the grains. Dang! So glad Foster will be freed from the cone of shame. That is so very hard to deal with.
Kim, you probably already listen to The Health Bridge, but if not you should. They have a lot of thyroid info there.
Warm regards to you all!0 -
Ok, don't laugh everyone. I was talking with my retired Exotic Dancer neighbour today, and her advice is to not use a scale; measure instead. This is particular to women. So that sure validated what Kelly has been seeing, and she agreed.
You meet the strangest people out in the remote woods of Montana0 -
Yes you do mark and she gives clothing tips too!0
-
I'm listening to the retired exotic dancer. Her body was her business for many years. She has street cred with me.
Heron, Have fun at your parade! I know your puppy will perk up as you guys get him healthy. Poor baby.
I'm still in Vegas until tomorrow night. The gym here is $22 a day. I used that as an excuse to blow off exercise yet ANOTHER week. Just so much graduate work, emails at night and great conference sessions. Can't get motivated to get out to get in some workout time.
But there are TONS of stairs all around Bally's, Ceasar's Palace and The Bellagio which are out the front door of the casino. Tomorrow morning I am going to try to get out there before the conference and do at least 20 minutes of HIIT.
Sigh... eating has deteriorated a bit. I'm still 85% Whole 30 but I ate about a lb of almonds and dried fruit yesterday. I shouldn't have bought the big bag for the week. I ate it in one day.0
