Happy Sunday Folks! Well surprisingly my HRV is in the green this morning even after my 4 mi Tough Mudder training walk yesterday. Going to workout with son Daniel but not sure I'm up to strong lifts today so may go do some general lifting but probably focus more on movement and active recovery.

Kim - Very Koo-EL on the indoor rides.

  • Good morning all.

No vlog this week. I'm changing my vlog days to Friday as I'm tired of two weighins a week (darn scale!!!!). I'll update my weight from Friday and go from there.

Hope everybody is having a good weekend. More housecleaning for me today. I did find out yesterday that my stove is actually black!!!! :wtf: :open_mouth:

And I'm back in that your HRV is too high yellow place. Funny how when I go yellow HRV goes up, saying I'm in deeper recovery. Makes sense given the week I had. Much more standing, lots and lots of steps, a couple days on a bike, drinking. I did get 8+ hours of sleep last two nights. Carb depleted, but pushing off my Carb Nite for birthday cake.

Rays is fun to ride. We were season members for a couple of years. But last year I barely made it up there and of the family I go the most. Didn't renew membership, and this was my first visit of the year. They are open Oct-April. raysmtb.com It does help keep you on a bike. The MKE one is in an old Menards. The CLE one in an old warehouse area. I find the CLE intimidating. Been there once. There's a "cross country" route that goes up and down around the perimeter and in some catwalks across the building. Lots of technical training ladders and obstacles ( split by novice, beginner, sport and advanced) and a bunch of jump lines. As it's gotten more popular with folks its a bit less fun for me. Lots of people riding with no "trail" sense. So they stop in bad spots, blind areas, places where you need to carry momentum...or cut in without seeing who is coming. I've had some close calls due to that, taking the fun away. Still it's a great place to work on skills and technique that does transfer to the trail. But falling onto wood structures or concrete floors is not fun. Trails are generally a bit more forgiving in a fall. And crashes are part of the sport.

Oh Kim! All your mountain bike talk has me so jealous. It used to be my absolute favorite sport. I guess it still is I just haven't done it in so very long. Can't seem to fit in the training without big sacrifice to them kids & the graduate work so I've shifted to these obstacle runs twice a year. The mud runs are crazy fun too… And don't require as much prep to get out and do a little training for them.
But I miss miss miss the mountain biking.

Hey, did I ever tell you that I came in second place in my division for an adventure race? Kayaking, mountain biking, and orienteering through the woods, running on trails looking for little flags. I'm very proud of my 2nd place trophy. (it matters not that there were only two of us in my division. LOL)

Enjoy your time on that bike girl!

So today was day one of another whole30 challenge for me. I wasn't going to do this one but I'm in a very dark place with food and activity right now. Wish me luck. I miss my sucralose but after just one day I'm already feeling better. Big thank you again to TJ, Kevin and Hammer..it's always easier to get to the first week or so with friends. If you want to join us, you can jump in anytime. Your day one can be a few days behind our day one. You won't regret it!

Happy Monday Folks! I'm off work today as I have to work this coming Saturday. So without JT Dogg here this weekend treating the lawn with weed eater stuff. and roundup in the beds to clear out the weeds.
Plus clean out my patio pots and get some veggies to grow. Thinking Tomatoes, and....????

Carol's right folks, we're having a good time doing the Whole 30 not that big of a deal to do when you got friends to do it with. Join us on the other thread or on FB https://facebook.com/groups/Hmrjmr20Dnail/
  • It's Monday folks.
Didn't sleep the greatest last night but the positive thing is I may be back on a more 'normal' sleep schedule. Let's hope I can continue that trend. I didn't get in any jaunting this weekend but I did a lot of stuff around the house. Tonight I'll restart the jaunts, as I know I desperately need them.

Carol, I had no idea you mountain biked! And that adventure triathlon sounds great congrats on the medal! I love mountain biking for the active meditation...when you are riding, you have to be in the here and now thinking about nothing but the trail ahead. No mind wandering or you'll get hurt. On paved paths, I can zone out if the biking, think about work and such. But not mountain biking. I've only done a couple of races. Do one on my local trails every fall, have medaled in my age class they're but generally there's only 2-3 women in the 50+ so not really medaling. My best finish was winning the novice woman class of a Super-D (downhill) race. ESP. As I beat considerably younger women who along with their husbands/ boyfriends were somewhat disparaging me at the start. I overheard one dude telling his GF that the order needed to be her, than me, than another woman he thought was the real competition. This was a timed start with 2:00 delays between riders. He hoped I'd be so slow the person behind do me would catch up and get slowed down by me. Instead, I caught her, passed and finished nearly three minutes ahead of her. 1st place!

Like you I'd be better if I trained more. But I just go out to have fun. If I have to push the bike up a hill, I push. No biggie. I'd be a lot better if I was a more confident rider...kinda like skiing. I hold myself back a bit with my head.

Thank you everybody for your encouragements. :) I think I've said it before, its not that I'm not happy and confident with the way I look its that I want "more" LOL don't we all?.. I also know that I have body image issues that seeps out sometimes. I go through ups and downs and I'm just experiencing more downs than ups recently. Ehh its life, put on my big girls panties and push through my first world problems :p
Great input on the EDC bag... I carry a "purse with useful stuff/EDC" because I go into the city on a semi regular basis and I take the subway so I need stuff with/on me and it can't be bulky because i need to move through crowds.
Kim I did listen to the episode with Mark Gordon. (is that the one?) Fascinating stuff! John, you if you hadn't you need to check out Mark Gordon and spread the word amongst Vets. He did an interview on Joe Rogan's show with a Vet who was suffering from PTSD and almost killed himself and the writer of American Sniper. The stats on Vets are so sad.
Anyways, learned a lot about Traumatic Brain injuries, stress and hormones. And it sounds like even if you have a hormone imbalance, it'll be hard to find a doctor that can treat you properly. But after listening to that I decide to cut myself some slack lol. I've had 2 concussion from automobile accidents. (my fault I was street racing, young and stupid) I've lost count how many times that I've been hit on the head by a punch, kick or various size/speed of balls and I went through hormone therapy at 21. So on the grand scale of things I'm doing pretty dang good! Perspective... ahhh

Indoor bike park sounds so cool and fun!

Carol, that adventure race sounds fun! I suck at biking but I get the "focusing on the trail" mentalility, I think that's why I like cross country skiing.

John, grow peppers, eggplant or zucchini.

I've had a couple of good night's sleep and boy that felt good, figured out my fatigue issue, I was low on iron. My doctor warned me about that before but I didn't think it was that because I was so dang single minded about my diet. I though it could be my carbs or fat. Too little too much? etc etc and I completely forgot about my old condition of borderline anemia. Back on iron supplements and I feel so much better.

Mark and Kelly. you guys make a cute couple.

Jen, try hemp seed oil.. I hope you you have a good night night's sleep. Oh and try a guided meditation for sleep on youtube. That worked for me 90% of the time.
  • It's Tuesday, which means it's not Monday!

Slept better last night. Not waking up at 1:00 or 1:30 is nice. Forgot to fill out my food journal again but I'll take care of that. I have to get better about doing it, as I haven't for a few days now. Grrrrrr... But I've been getting back to eating better, so that's good. Still a long way to go though.

Where are Cynthia & DebSue? Miss you both!!! Come back please!!!

Heron, thank you for the suggestions. The lavendor oil seems to really be helping. I also think a lot of what was causing my sleeping issues has been removed (winter being the last one). Time will tell.

Well happy St Patrick's Day Folks. Another Great Day waits. h74lh4i52mb7.jpg

The Winning Art from our local Elks Club Veteran Art Contest. Veteran is a Vietnam Vet w Dementia, also has a condition called Tactile Hallucinations, since Vietnam, he has felt like bugs are crawling on his skin, ALL THE TIME, picks at his arms till they bleed. I set up this project so that he had to apply the ink to paper with an eye dropper and brush stroke by blowing air through a straw. He was not allowed to touch the paper. He focused for a solid hour walking around the project getting his drops and blows in with out once picking at his arms. State wide Competition is today.

    w83kngwc11eb.jpg

Here are the first 3 places from the local contest.

Heron - Yep perspective is a wonderful thing. On the Veteran issues, I look in at our dining room on the D Ward and with the patients and staff assembled for the meal I see the 22 Vets we lose every DAY. over 8000 per year. One just about every hour. I have lost quite a few troops and friends to this. Highest Risk Zone is age 50-59.

Did peppers last year, doing Giant Jalapeno this year.

Jen Good Sleep is huge. Might want to look into the guided meditation Heron mentioned.

Carol - The more we learn about you the more my initial suspicions are confirmed. You are a warrior.

Kim - It's the fun of it that keeps ya going. It's great fun to trash others expectations for your failure by kickin their butt. Def a higher satisfaction for those wins.

All Righty Folks gotta get weavin. Have a great Day.

Good morning and happy saint Patrick's day!

Weather isn't very cooperative today but will get my walk in today to work and back. Got a sick bean pole in my house and hoping he will get better soon... Finally will take vitamins though  Had a wonderful weekend with Mark and can't wait for this one!

Still keeping off my scale. The walking really has things changing for me size wise. Losing 2-4 inches a week at this point. Got to buy my first medium blouses and they fit! And of course I finally had to pull out my belts.

Hmr the art your clients do is beautiful. They should be very proud. Living with ptsd and other mental illnesses due to genetics or life is so very hard. But having people who believe you, listen and encourage positive outlets is huge!

Mark and I have pretty well figured out our garden this year. Will be a lot of fun to work on it this year

Hey everyone. It's been a while since I posted, but I'm still here! I'm doing John's Whole30, right now and we're on Day 3. So far, so good.

I made some breakfast cookies, to have a quick breakfast. They have coconut, applesauce, raisin, dried cherries, and nuts. I'll post the recipe in the recipe thread.

Happy St Pat's Day everyone.....which is also my birthday. Double Nickels as one friend put it. Which is kinda unbelievable to me. Fun day. My annual birthday selfie......

    krvzt8mmhslg.jpg

Naturally I moved my Carb Nite to tonight. Finding a gluten free cake was a challenge. I was gonna bake one, but Hubby found one at a local market. Jury still out on how the one he found will taste. But grateful he got that taken care of. Been craving burger and fries as my carb nite. Finding a place known for their burgers and fries and having a gluten free bun option was equally challenging. Again hubby came thru (he had also suggested that if we can't find a place, he'd grab a GF bun from a local baker and I'd bring to one of my fav burger places)

Heron - I meant the Her Body IO episode on stress with Alex and AJ- one prior to the Mark Gordon one. Which was amazing. Having just discovered the thyroid/cholesterol connection, my mind was ready for all the science/medicine around hormones affecting so many other (seemingly unrelated) systems in the body. With Testosterone and thyroid the leading culprits. Great stuff. Glad Kiefer is venturing out of the solely CN/CBL space.

And I third the using a guided meditation to help with sleep. I always do it when traveling. I have trouble settling down, getting to sleep and staying asleep in a hotel. Guided meditations make a huge difference.

Wooo Hoot! My guy got 2nd at the State level Art Competition. Very proud of him.

TJ didn't have that in mind in fact wanted to make sure it was over before I hit the road for Paleo FX. Oh Well. You can do it though. Rise to the Challenge Lad you got it.

gonna give those cookies a roll sometime. Thanks
  • Happy Wednesday. Slept better last night again. I'm getting there.

Kim, how was your birthday Carb Nite? Hope you had a great day! :joy:

TJ, I'll have to try out that cookie recipe. I love cookies! cookie:

Even though I haven't been doing the best with my eating or exercise, I actually was able to wear another pair of my pants on Monday and found some shorts yesterday that fit (but were a bit snug when I put on my carry gun). Oh on a side note, it was nice to finally be able to wear shorts! :sunglasses:

Hey guys. Had a great birthday, but as CarbNites go kinda meh. Remember the pint of CarbNite is to raise insulin, ideally in 2-3 distinct "spikes" in the 6 or so hours before you go to bed. This was my first time using gluten free treat type foods that mimic the real thing. Last week I'd done Thai where the rice noodles are pretty ideal. This week I was craving burger and fries ( hadn't had fries in literally months and months). The burger place was amazing. OMG the sweet potato fries. All grass fed locally sourced beef. Wow. HOWEVER that gluten free bun sucked. At about two bites of it and went to fork and knife leaving the bun. Lettuce wrapped so much better. And with leaving the bun I didn't get quite the carbs in at dinner as planned.

Had a gluten free carrot cake as birthday cake. Tasty. But mainly almond flour. And not overly sweet. So while I enjoyed it, know it was fairly low glycemic index with the almond flour.

Still I enjoyed dinner with the boys ( hubby and son), heard from tons of folks, had fun at the office, and got some fun presents. So wonderful day.

Lesson learned on gluten free treats. Not worth it. I'll stick to sweet potatoes, rice, GF cereal, and ice cream for my spikes from now on. Those things I enjoy and they fit the purpose.

Hi everyone! I was away at a conference in Denver - did pretty well on Thurs, Fri, and Sunday, but Saturday I went out of control at the break with little chocolate-covered pretzels. I did do lots of walking in the beautiful weather there. I'm mostly back on track but sad to be bundled up in 30 degree weather again. My kid is at day 24 on the Whole 30 and is doing great. Wish I was as disciplined! She'll be home for the weekend so I know I'll at least be very careful while she's here.

Not doing good food wise, I know I have to sacrifice to reach a goal but recently I've just been ehh about it. Well I'm back on it and hope that I would get my head back in the game. I have contacted Body IO for Coaching and I've requested Christin, I've heard AJ and Alex on their podcast and although I think they are great I don't think they are for me, hey who know maybe Christin might not be a good fit after all.. We'll see.

    John, love the art pictures

Kim love the green! Whoop whoop.

TJ, you can do it! you managed the 1st whole 30 so well

Kelly, Damn 2-4 inch a week is significant! way to go! And congrats on buying Medium blouses!

Thursday...on my second day in a row of RED HRV. And day before that was yellow. Coincides with upping the dose on my thyroid meds. I don't feel the symptoms she said to expect as I titrate up every 4-7 days to my full dose. But apparently my body has noticed. I'm just finally not cold all the time. Kinda warm actually.

My birthday present to myself Power Rack arrived yesterday. Need to get it built. Doc pulled me off strength training (really anything other than lots of walking) until I get to full dose plus a week or so. Which will perfectly coincide with returning from Spring Break.

Kim, funny when I heard Christin's interview I was thinking "hey that's me!" Lol btw great birthday present! And hormones are such a tricky thing to "fix" yay for not feeling cold especially where you live. ;)
I am looking forward to the coaching!
Had some egg whites today because I need to finish them and I got a little bloated :( I don't get a reaction with eggs but egg white... Hmmm

My goal for tomorrow is instead of 3 walks for roughly 20 minutes each to try to work it up to 2-3 walks at 30 minutes each. Never would have thought I could do this rain, snow or shine and that I would miss it on a day where I needed the truck for work and didn't get all my walking in. Love how much better I feel and can breath and sleep

Happy Friday Folks! Gonna be out of the house tonight since I've got a quick turn around. Got 4 of my guys cleared for the parade run tomorrow. They will be riding the Float and Waving in the parade.

Kim - Good to read you're getting the Thyroid stuff worked out. The Power Rack is very cool, Makes the strong lifts very do able in a safe way at home. Love mine.

Heron got my Garden in this week Got my Tomato and went with Jalepeno Pepper and Cabbage to round out the 'crop' .

Kelly - It feels so good. Keep having fun and it will feel better and better.

All Righty Then! Have a RED TOP kina Day See ya on the flip side of the Vernal Equinox, have a Happy Spring!

Wow, Equinox already. Yes to spring!

Kelly, keep up the walking. I love that you're doing it consistently outdoors. So good for mind and body.

HRV back to green today. Will be interesting to see in a few days when I do the final dose increase if it goes back red or yellow for a couple days.
