Net or Regular Carbs?

Good day.
I would like thoughts on Net to Regular Carb counting.
Personally, I don't do net. To me it's like saying drinking a diet soda with a snicker bar erases the sugar. Yes, fiber slows down carb absorption, but slow down means it's still absorbed.
I count all carbs. If the fiber does slow it down, or nullify it, bonus.
I did do a search for something like this, but didn't find anything.

When in doubt, count them all. Better safe than sorry0

It's not so much that fiber slows the absorption of other carbs, it's that fiber is counted as a carb on the label, but it won't effect blood sugar and is [mostly] undigestible. Something with a total of 10 carbs and 4 fiber only has 6 carbs that will effect blood sugar (assuming American food labels, some other countries don't count fiber in total carbs).
In any case, it doesn't really matter. At least in my opinion it doesn't. My attitude is that "if something's not working lower your carbs." So, how you calculate the actual "number" you aim for isn't important. It's the process of arriving at a number that works for you that matters. Add or subtract carbs until you find an optimal level.0 -
Net.... If I can't digest it... And it does not effect my blood glucose numbers ... It doesn't count.0

Total...if I have a high fiber day, bonus. If I slightly exceed my total carb goal but I have good fiber numbers, I don't sweat it as much. Still, I try to keep total carbs under or very near my carb goal the majority of the time.0

Total: that way I know I won't go too far over...0

net because I love flax and veggies. but if i was doing more than 20g net, id probably count total because then i could eat flax and veggies anyway0

I suck at searches evidently, as I missed the above. Thanks.0 -

What really sucks is the search function on MFP... It is really crappy.0 -
Used to net carb years ago under the Atkins plan, but dumped it last year and count them all now.

I just use total carbs, but don't worry if I go over a few if it was mostly from veg.0

I strive for total but really keep myself to net. I'm currently staying under 40 net (except that one day last week when I hit 45 net--oops) at the most, but most days I'm well under 40 total. It's like, "Well, 30 total is my ideal situation, but I'm a work in progress and 40 net is my absolute limit." I don't want to make my macros too stringent and then "fail" (when it's not really a failure to stay under 40 net anyway, and I'm having decent results at this level). Once I see those red numbers, I start to get discouraged, and that's when I'm likely to give up. Success breeds success, you know?0
