Hi, so my Thyroid has been destroyed because it was overactive & I started Thyroxine about 4 weeks ago.

For the 1st couple of weeks I felt fantastic & the most human i've felt in a long while however, for the last week I've had digestive problems such as bloating and stomach pain and I look 6 months pregnant! Plus in the last 48 hours I've had chest pain which I assumed was indigestion but I'm now thinking these are possible side effects, I can't speak to my Doctor until tomorrow so in the meantime has anyone else experienced any side effects?

Thanks

I'm sorry you are having health problems which may be medication related. I see you're in the UK. I don't like the sound of chest pain. Please take yourself off to some out of hours service and or even your local hospital. I know we hear about these places being very busy but chest pain needs to be looked into. There are times to put others first and times to think of yourself.

When you get there you can tell them the situation when you are what they call "triaged", interviewed to decided what priority you are. It will be up to them to get you seen in a timely manor.

For future information, our national thyroid support site is good covers all aspects of thyroid problems. There is also "stop the thyroid madness", it is a US site and has been active for many years. This has more information and explanations for thyroid issues especially as many of us find we have to be our own advocate.

First off, make sure the chest pain is nothing.

Kerry, for advice UK side, try Thyroid UK and it's chat forum HERE,
    Also good is
    Thyroid Patient Advocacy (TPA)
I agree get chest pain checked out at A&E or call 111 for NHS Direct if unsure.

Kerry, Hope all goes well with your doctor today. Please come back with how things went. Take care.

Vicki, I've not found the chat forum, shows I should look more closely. Thank you.

Thyroxine is synthetic T4, so its side effects are the symptoms of hyperthyroidism: rapid or irregular heartbeat, sweating, tremor, anxiety, decreased appetite. It's possible you're having an allergic reaction to a filler or binding agent in your particular brand of pills.

Or your symptoms have absolutely nothing to do with your meds. Please see a doctor.
