Hi guys,

I didn't have the same pre-op diet as you, so unfortunately I have little to no information to offer. But I do want to wish you good luck on your surgery coming up!

I, too, hate the protein drinks! The best one I could tolerate was from Optimum Nutrition. It's called 100% Whey and it's a tropical punch flavor. I mix it with fruit punch flavored Crystal Light. There's a website, Nashua Nutrition, where you can order it. They also do samples for $1.95. Hope this helps and good luck!

You can add Torani sugar free syrups to change things up or coffee, if you're allowed that. If you search on Pinterest you can find lots of "recipes" for protein shake add-ons - just be wary of adding things with any carbs (e.g. frozen fruit). Protein shakes are very particular - most everyone has a favorite (or hates all of them). The ONLY one I've been able to drink post-op is the chocolate Premier Protein. It was approved by my NUT, but may not fit your plan.

And on that note, don't buy a ton of anything because what you like now you may hate on the flip side of surgery (learned that one the hard way with a giant unused container of Unjury chicken soup flavored powder). I think you can buy single servings at Vitamin Shoppe to try some different ones. Good luck to you!

Is there a medical reason why your doctor told you no dairy? I did a LOT of research on these pre-surgery "liquid diets". The real reason they want people on them is so they lose weight rapidly right before surgery so shrink the liver and lose some of the fat around the stomach. Some people don't go on liquids until the day before and just eat "regular" until then. I'm not saying go against what your doctor says but it might be worth researching the real reasons why he/she wants you on such a strict diet. I had lost 35 pounds in the prior two months so my surgeon told me not to worry about being on liquids until the day before. Just eat moderately and stay away from bad carbs. You might want to call your doctor's office if your having trouble sticking to his guidelines.

All I can say is you want to do whatever is in your power to make the surgery as easy as possible. If drinking liquids is the way to ensure that, then I would be on it! Good luck to you!

My favorite was the Premier Protein. Seemed to have the best flavor. Its good to figure out now what works for you as you will need them post op too. Talk to your Doc or Nutritionist. Mine was great at working with me as I had a hard time tolerating some of the products. No matter what my best advise is to stick to the program your Doc gives you. Don't hesitate to ask them questions! Good luck!

I'm on liquids too surgery date is 4/7 for the sleeve, I do the Premier Protein shakes - it's not whey isolated but it's accepted by my nutritionist, the isolated ones make me sick literally! Choc is my favorite, Vanilla is growing on me...Add in Chike pnut butter protein powder to up your protein intake and switch up the flavors. After three days in I was actually looking forward to my shakes, I know hard to believe...unjury chicken protein powder isn't bad either until it cools then it gags me (eewww!) Good luck!
