I was just diagnosed with Insulin Resistance, which is the state before pre-diabetes. Thats what brought me here. My doctor suggested I try cutting back on carbs to see if it helps. So far I feel wonderful and can't wait to learn more about low carbing.

Low carb is spectacular for preventing/managing diabetes, I didn't get on board until i was already diagnosed as a diabetic but low carb has made it very easy to manage.

There are a lot of us on here that are either trying to prevent diabetes or who are treating their existing diabetes with low carb. You'll find bunches of friends here. :)

I started LCHF/keto on March 1 because my insulin was in the pre-diabetic range. In three weeks my fasting blood sugar dropped from 96 to 69. This works; you're in the right place. Welcome!

I have the set-up for diabetes. My endocrinologist has put me on metformin to prevent me from developing diabetes. I have insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome two precursors to diabetes with a strong family history of it. So, I need to change things now. Feel free to add me as a friend.

I've kept my blood sugar in line without meds for 10 years now. Yesterday, my a1C was 4.8, and my blood sugar 79, which is well into the 'normal' range.

Having PCOS, insulin resistance and T2 Diabetes is not an easy road, and doesn't make it easy to lose weight, but the alternatives are harsh.

    You can add me.

I came up pre-diabetic last year. Lost 10 pounds over the course of the year doing standard CICO, then lost another ten pounds adding LC the last couple of months.

I don't take any meds. I went in last week to get blood test, still waiting on results to see if I am back to normal range.

One more possible healthcare concern HFLC may reverse. In my case the prevention side effect of HFLC makes me want to stick with it for life.

    Hi Holly,

You can add me. I am 40, and while my blood sugar is fine diabetes runs in my family. My Dad is one of 11 siblings, and they all have T2 diabetes. My Dad was diagnosed when he was a little older than me but I'm sure he had it long before he went to the Doctor. Diabetes has destroyed his arteries (the specialist has said they are like strings of pearls - wide thin bits and narrow bits). He had his first heart attack at 50. He's had a quadruple bypass and several more heart attacks since then. He's now 65 and on so much medication - which keeps him alive but the side effects are horrible. He's in hospital once a month or so with Angina.

A lot of people don't realise that diabetes is not simply "I can't eat sugar or I have a fit". It does horrendous damage to your body if it's not controlled. And it's avoidable.

I am terrified of ending up as sick as my Dad is at such a young age. I think that cutting out carbs is the only way I'm going to avoid it.
