Ugh, college food...

I live on campus so I have to have a meal plan (plus I don't really have the money to go shopping off-campus). It seems like the only food they have that is consistently healthy or low calorie is salad. I like salad well enough but I really can't eat it every day, I just get sick of it. There is a wrap option as well but it's not very encouraging because they are such poor quality that they're difficult to eat.
They have yogurt and fruit and stuff too, but it's hard to eat certain things when you actually want to eat meals with your friends. Not every location has all the same foods, so it's not always possible to eat a good variety of health meals.
Anyone else just burnt out on the food at their school?

Yeah, I'll be happy to transfer out of JC next semester. We have chicken strips (battered, deep fried) french fries (cooked in lard), those flimsy little burger patties on a bun, veggies are usually welted. The salads are good quality, but they're premade/can't be customized, and like you I just can't eat them everyday. I live at home, but I'm on campus for 13 hours plus most days. Here's to being able to afford healthy food and a house to cook it in!0

I actually had some of those plain chicken strips and fries today. I knew they were unhealthy but I had no idea how bad they were. And they're not even that good. What a waste.
I am really looking forward to being able to make food in my own kitchen! Just a few years away now...0 -
The ones my school has are very bland. I'm lucky because I pack my lunch most days.0

I know what you mean, my school has the same problem bland deapfryed greasy food. Luckely they have a salad and rap station.0

Do your schools have a complete lack of nutritional info too? I've asked repeatedly at mine, and they say its not available. Wondering if no school has it.0

It's the same all over the world. There is absolutely no way I can even get close to hitting my macros. I generally hover around 70% carbs, 20% fat and 10% protein, on an average. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I am sick of bread. Death to bread.0

We had Sodexo, it was terrible, but gave really accurate nutrition information. Now if their food didn't taste so terrible you didn't want to eat anything...0

I know what you mean. I'm so glad I live off campus for this very reason. The only advice I can give is keep searching various dining halls/places to eat for anything of substance.0

I would try asking for allergen free food. We have a few places on my campus that have that and generally they're the healthiest options (grilled chicken, beef roast, squash, quinoa, a variety of steamed veggies). I would just ask, usually people are more willing to help find you options like that if they think you have allergies or bring up something with "doctor" and they'll help. Yes, lying isn't the best thing, but you'd be surprised how quick you can get something with a few key words... Otherwise I'd look to see if you have a market-like place. We have 2 on my campus and you can get yogurt, bread, veggies, deli meat. It's a bit more work to eat healthy with that since you have to prepare it but it's worth it0
