After a bit of a discussion on @GrannyMayOz 's diary we were wondering if people are up for a sub LCD group for users with fitbits. Whatcha all think?

I was going to say 'Fancy you thinking of such a good idea Spush', but you've dobbed me in as a co-conspirator. Needless to say, I think it's a wonderful idea LOL

Would the sub group be here or in one of FitBits groups?

If you're already tracking your food, why not? Half of what makes Fitbit so awesome is the charting and whatnot and the linking of the "calories in" (MFP) and "calories out" (Fitbit) and seeing how they relate.

I'd be in! I think we can do the subgroup here. It's liable to get lost in the Fitbit group. I <3 my Charge HR.

I use MFP for food and FitBit for activity. FitBit doesn't have a 1200 calorie stop on it like MFP does. There have been days when I was sick on the sofa FitBit would tell me to only eat 900 calories.

I tend to ignore the food/calories in FitBit (just removed the tiles).

The "you can eat this much more" and "you're over/under budget" are confusing to me. I've seen it say "you can eat this much more," but then the budget thing says I can only have like 10% of that...

I guess it depends on which one you have. Mine is Flex, i didn't do research on which Fitbit i wanted, i had no clue there were different ones. I was hoping it would count exercise/activity calories, meaning, i can start the clock and it will tell me what i've burned. It doesn't do it, the only activity it counts is when you go for a run, so i'm pretty disappointed with this. I probably can get cheaper exercise tracker from walmart that will tell me how much calories 40 min. workout burn.

I wear my fitbit as a habit these days. I ignore it, but it's there. I also track my weight through the phone app. If anyone wants to connect as a friend through there, send me a message and I'll send you an invite to connect to me.

It will also prove that I am not some super-active athlete, and that's why I can burn off all these calories.

I've got the fitbit charge and it told me to log food through MFP. I'm sure it said to log my exercise through MFP as well, but that's backwards isn't it? I only got it yesterday so I know I still have some reading and reckoning to do.

I really enjoy my fitbit. It helps me track activity as well as sleep. Which becomes very important when I have an unexplained weight gain, a lot of times it relates to poor sleep. I would like a subgroup here, being low-carb high-fat might garner negative attention in the regular fit bit group.

Yup - what @spush said. Pretty please Dragonwolf? Can you please name it 'Fitness/Step Counter Group' or something non-brand-specific? <3

My opinion is that all step counter folks can join. We can all discuss our results equally <3 Just to say that I don't want to actually *link* through fitbit at this stage. I don't yet know what that involves, so give me time to 'friend' my husband and kids before I make any decisions on that one ;)

@grannyMayOz That does seem backwards. I know you loggin activites in both places muddies things up. As long as our consistant is what matters.

@dragonwolf The "you can eat" and the "over/under" is based on the time of day and your projected calorie burn. So right after dinner my "over/under is always over, but by the time I go to bed, it's back in the zone. The "you can eat" is based on XXX (whatever you set it at) calories under your calories burned. So it says you've burned 1000 calories and you've eaten 500, but have a 500 calorie deficit programmed in, you'll get a "you have 0 calories left"

See why I ignore it ;)

@itcphotog the band it;sef won't log those activities, it only really logs walking/running, but you can go into the activity log and manually enter what you did (swimming, yoga, etc) and it will count those calories etc towards your calories burned/active minutes etc.

But if you make the group on fitbit, you can invite to challenges, so I vote fitbit group!

We could set up a group both here and on the other tracker sites (those that support it, anyway, I don't know if Jawbone or the others do). :)

    Here's the Fitbit group! https://www.fitbit.com/group/22P5VK

For users of the other trackers, feel free to make a group there, then link it here.

Check out the Fitbit users group, that can clear up a lot of things. The consensus is that you track food in MFP and activity on Fitbit. According to the Fitbit Users Group, MFP tells you to track both on MFP pretty much solely for the increased usage of MFP (more users using it, more ad revenue, more money, basically). The problem with tracking activity on MFP is that MFP's calorie burn number trumps Fitbit's. If you got the HR version, the Fitbit is pretty much guaranteed to be the more accurate number.

    :D I suppose I could do that...

There doesn't appear to be an actual "subgroup" feature (that'd be really cool, though), so I created a new actual group. I figure we can create a directory of subgroups that people can join.

Here's the first one, the LCD - Activity Trackers group!
    http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/105163-low-carber-daily-activity-trackers

I've also added a section to the LaunchPad for a list of groups. The Activity Tracker group has a directory of the groups at the activity tracker sites. So feel free to point people there for a list of sister/sub groups.

I use my FB daily, and track sleep and all, but I haven't been walking more than daily activity and such. Might get back to it at some point, but I wiped myself out at that Faire and havent hit back adapted yet, so any little workout wears me the heck out!
