i'm hoping to be back on the indoor trainer by that point... might put the MSR dvd on the tacx trainer and ride along on the route for a while -though I think I'd have to dial the resistance down for the cipressa and poggio...

well - hope everyone enjoyed the Milan-Sanremo yesterday - both the actual race and our own version...

Official Ride Duration was 6h46m16s - so anyone over that duration will get the 5pt bonus

(providing the Strava doesn't show any extended pauses in the route - stops for mechanicals or a cafe-break being fine, a 3 hour rest for a 5 course italian lunch, less so...)

Oh - and just for a little light relief... if anyone's ever wondered why I seem to stick to ordering Espresso or Ristretto's...

spreadsheet's now been updated folks, all details in the entries thread - along with the potted history for this sundays Gent Wevelgem. Might TRY and get out for a short (and I MEAN short- maybe 5 miles or so!) one outdoors myself this sunday, weather permitting - if only so I can have an excuse for that bottle of Leffe Brun and the Belgian Waffles that mysteriously jumped into my shopping trolley yesterday!

Hoping to get out today but tomorrow is looking even worse, are we still strict on the day being Sunday or can we count either Sat or Sun?

The Sole dispensation for riding on "the wrong day" that I'm allowing is for anyone who'e entered into any of the "parallel sportifs" that are run alongside some of the Classics - I know that the RVV and Paris-Roubaix for example have one, and I think the Amstel Gold also has a "Tour Version"... if anyone's got a place on any of these rides, then the ride on the "sportif day" is allowed as their "race day ride" - because after all, it's about as close as any of us CAN get to riding the race proper - which is the spirit i've tried to foster with this challenge.

(I should add, I was kind of hoping to be able to get over and ride one of the shorter distance RVV sportif ones this year, but as it stands, I don't even know if i'll be riding outdoors by then, never mind in another country :'( )

Thought it might be, may do a little spin as a recovery ride, I wouldn't mind doing another century but it looks wet enough for building an Ark tomorrow!

Well I'm an idiot... I only looked at the first couple of dates and didn't think the rides started until July... Forgetting that the British date system is day/month/year :P I *did* just work on the bikes tonight so I'll be able to ride this weekend, but i'll understand if my rides don't count for this one.

I had hoped to ride the classics but working a 62 hour shift through the weekend, I rely on breaks to get out and ride. That usually happens about 4 AM and it just hasn't happened this year. I'm hoping I can get back at it with the Giro.

@Jakess1971 - How is the Ark building coming.

You can start at any point - I may not even be able to get a ride booked in for any of the spring section of the classics but i'll be back at it by "La Fogila Morte"...

No worries mate - maybe concentrate on the "Grand Tours" instead... the whole "fixed date" format always causes problems for some people, but it's difficult to coordinate people riding on different days, especially as occasionally there's races on sunday, wednesday and sunday... or saturday/sunday back to back.

So the next ride coming up is Sunday (April 5th), the Tour of Flanders; its cobbles and climbing, right? Not sure I'm in any condition for climbing and cobbles don't really exist in my area. I want to be out though. It suppose to warm back up for Sunday.

and, for those of you riding, here's some useful information...

    Bonus Points

    Pave
1pt for "Pseudo Pave" - dirt roads/block paving/smooth surfaced stone setts or textured concrete
2pts for "Real" Pave, but it MUST be the genuine article, as that's the whole deal with Paris-Roubaix
just post the picture, I'll decide which category it fits into

    Moulin
1pt for either a modern windfarm tower or wind-pump tower
2pts for a former Windmill now converted to residence or other use (probably sans mill-blades in this case)
3pts for the real thing - a full working (or visually complete looking) traditional windmill
again, just post the picture, I'll decide which category it fits into  (oh, and it's 3 points for 1
windmill or 27 of 'em - and if you shoot all 3 types, you'll get the highest point value only not 1+2+3)

    Post Ride Face
and one "just for fun" - some of the most powerful images from the Paris-Roubaix have been of the
faces of the riders at the end of the ride. So, if you're feeling daring, post a "selfie" as you get home
from the ride - muddy face and bad "helmet hair" optional, but to be encouraged. 2pts if you do post
one, 3 points for the person I decide looks most authentically shattered!

    Supplementary Bonuses

1 point for the Recovery Drink - pretty much any kind of french "Biere" or Vin Rouge is acceptable. One point for either.

1 point only for your choice of...
Any French Patisserie (including brioche etc.) in ride or post ride.
Croissants (presumably as a pre-ride breakfast)
Any Baguette related sandwich action - either as a cafebreak, post-ride refuel - or even old-school bikie
style cut into bitesized morsels and wrapped in aluminium foil then stuffed in your shirt-pockets

Eat all three if you do a big enough ride, but again, you're only likely to get credit for one of 'em...

Busy Week this week folks - Amstel Yesterday, then we've the Fleche Wallone on Wednesday, and the Liege-Bastogne-Liege on Sunday... I'll have to close submissions for the Amstel tomorrow, sometime in the afternoon, to give myself time to get the Histories / Bonus bits in place ready for the Fleche...

well folks - guess we're on "summer hiatus" while the Grand Tours start to kick in... If we actually get enough people signing up to make it worthwhile actually running them that is...

Oh yes... It's my second favourite race of the year, after the Paris Roubaix... Wouldn't miss it for the world (even if the doctors won't let me ride it myself, I'll still be running the challenge)

I am interested, my doctors can just shut the heck up.
