New to dieting

Hi,
I am very new to making intentional choices about food. I've never had a huge issue with dropping a dress size if I wanted to and then in the past 12 months I seem to have a body that does not comply anymore! Having turned 40 in October 2014, I've spent most of that time in denial too, thinking that I just need to adjust my portions and go for a walk a few times a week but alas, that has not worked. And the weight has continued to pile on. At the beginning of 2014 I weighed around 63kg and now am 71kg. I know this is not major for many people, but I am only 5 foot 2 inches tall and it has made a difference to my body confidence.
So, here I am. I hate diets because I've always believed they are fraught with issues and cause people more stress than it's worth but I have decided to try using Michelle Bridges' Crunchtime cookbook and increase my physical activity to see if I can get things going.
I hope that using myfitnesspal will help, and it has certainly opened my eyes to the types of foods I have been consuming and why I am finding it hard to loose the weight.
Oh, and I live in Newcastle, Australia, so if anyone is from Oz, let me know! Happy to connect with anyone really
