What are you all using to stay regular? Metamucil and Miralax don't work as well as I would like.

I use milk of magnesia, per my doctor's instructions. Seems to work pretty well!

Ok thanks! I'll check with my doctor. I'm sure it'll be ok to use.

I had a rough month or so. I made sure to add back in grits, oatmeal and veggies to get regular again. Luckily, it seems to have worked.

I have just added produce back. I was so worried about getting my protein that I neglected veggies. Never thought about oatmeal, which I love!

I add half a cup of fibre one cereal to my greek yogurt most mornings and then drink as much water as I can throughout the day. But if I'm not consistent with it, it becomes problematical quickly.

I take citrucel and colace daily. It helps, but the most important things for me have been making sure I stay on top of my fluids and daily exercise.

I use benefiber once a day in my drink and since I am so early out and just taking in protein right now - I drink one V8 a day, I can't wait to get my veggies back.

I've had it rough with this. I am always trying to drink more water. I take an OTC stool softener every day. I use the generic Miralax when I feel I need to, usually a couple days or so in a row, then things are back to "normal". For me it is a "dryness" thing, and it is tough to understand with the volume of fluids I push. I'm always trying to eat more fiber and whole grains....but this has been a consistent problem for me. I guess I wasn't prepared for this "side effect". I plan to talk it over again with my Doctor on my one year post op clinic visit coming up soon.

In the beginning I used Mirilax per my doctor. Than after I was on regular food I found Triscut or Wheat Thin crackers about once a week. One serving fits in my calories and they have lots of fiber. Or if I need the extra protein, Quest bars also have a lot of fiber. I also have a salad for lunch most work days and that really helps keep me regular. And check with your doctor, but a dose of oil (Coconut is what I like) also helps.

Might I suggest a regular addition of Coconut Oil? This will help with the dryness as well as make you more regular. My mother used to dose us with Cod Liver Oil growing up, but that is gross tasting! Coconut oil really has no flavor. I don't need it often, but it does work.

What do you add the Coconut Oil to? A salad?

Omelettes, cook proteins in it, make some mayo with it... basically put it on anything that isn't nailed down lol. It's high heat so it's great for cooking. It's a solid but melts at about body temp. Paleo community is allll about it-lots of recipes. Also as a side note... It's great for your skin and TONS of other uses. Here's a link with a bunch of uses both in food and others :)http://everydayroots.com/coconut-oil-uses

I actually swish the Coconut oil around in my mouth for about 20 minutes most days. It helps with a lot of different things like dry mouth (check the web, lots of lists). Anyway I usually just swallow that. It's really tasteless.
