:s OK I'm upset. Not a little upset. A lot upset. As you know, when I left BLBC I started T25. It involves 25 minutes of steady challenging moves, nonstop. I got through the first week doing the modified version and some occasional regular jacks. So far so good. Of course I also did my treadmill stuff and dance aerobics (just like I did in BC). Apparently I hit the wall this week. I was on the TM today to do my "easy" walk, and I felt like I was walking through mud. My hamstrings were screaming at me. Yesterday's T25 Cardio was much harder than the last time I did it. I talked to my PT (OK, my son, but he's been a PT for over 10 years so he knows what he's talking about.) He said I have overtrained and I need to back off. No T25 this week, no long TM sessions, no long outdoor walking sessions. Just short walks and stretching. THAT'S IT!!!!!! Geez! I'm upset (but still sore). This would be the week I have the real 10K (not my treadmill, not my 10K outside, but the real deal with hundreds of contestants). My son said to focus on doing that (It's this Sunday.) and not to jeopardize it by doing something (stupid). He's still diplomatic but I know what he is thinking. Anyway, so here I am in my chair feeling sorry for myself. ARGH!!!! I'm not aging gracefully right now.

Oh noes Hysteria! Hey that sort of thing happens and I can remember having to take some time off when I was in my prime shape because of overdoing it. Rest and stretching will do you wonders so hopefully you'll be good to go for your 10K. I know you've been training a long time for it but there always seem to be a 10K race of some sort always going on.

My best friend from high school has just experienced some knee issues because he was overdoing it even when his knee was starting to really act up. It's hard not to push thru with the momentum you've gained but it will be easier to pick up again then it was to initially start. This is just a bump in the road and once you get past it, you got this!

Are you icing your sore muscles and joints? That really works wonders for me when I'm hurting. Once I ice (a frozen bag of peas is perfect for this) for a couple days, I get the heat pad going for some extra relief. Also some gentle massage helps between heat and cold treatments.

My friend with the bad knees ran across these cold wraps from Arctic Ease. You wet them and they get cold and you can actually workout with them and they are reusable a few times. He hasn't tried them yet but they look interesting.

Dang, that sucks. I hope you can rest it up enough and heal for your 10k. Listen to your son, I think it's good advice. Have you thought of seeing a massage therapist? Maybe they can work out the issues, the one's around here are always running specials. Praying it all works out for you.

Is there something you could do to take your mind off of your need for 'rest' this week? Perhaps there's some project you've been putting off that you could try to whip out this week to keep you busy during those times when you would normally be training. I think you've already put the work in, you're ready! As long as you get your rest as prescribed, you'll do fine on Sunday. Give your body and opportunity to recover a bit and find something to take your mind off of it.

Got the massage last night. It made all the difference in the world! I will be splurging at least monthly for a massage. Since I gave up Weight Watchers, the cost will be almost justifiable. I haven't actually iced anything yet. After the massage nothing hurt. Today I went to the Zoo just to walk around and take pictures, no speed walking or actual working out. It felt fine. I am trying very hard not to do anything stupid before Sunday. Next Monday though I will be back in workout mode. Nothing to lose then.

So glad that massage worked! Maybe I'll check into getting one sometime... The zoo was a great idea too.

Great! Glad it helped. I try to get a deep tissue once a month myself. The girl that does mine always asks if I'm having issues in any particular area so that she can focus on the issue. Remember to still take it easy even if you feel good. Good luck!

I "dood" it! (as my granddaughter used to say) I did my 10K walk yesterday (my first "real" one), and I must say it went very well. The 10K category didn't differentiate between runners and walkers, so obviously I placed fairly far down, but I was surprised to see that I managed to pass anyone! There were around 1000 contestants, and I came in 900th (or so). Not bad for an old lady walker. I'm going to do another one in October. Now I need to get back to exercising. My enforced layoff is over. Training on the treadmill really did help. I was used to maintaining a certain pace, so I didn't need to slow down or stop at all. My time was 1:25 (or thereabouts), which is faster than when I walk it outside at home. Of course yesterday I didn't need to stop for traffic lights.

Very cool Hysteria and congrats on doing so well for your 10K! Have fun getting back to your exercise program... I know I would miss working out if I had to stop for a week! Hopefully your knee is a lot better after the break.

You may want to look into foam rolling or other self massage techniques. I've recently learned that releasing tension on other parts of your body helps your knee (and other areas like your back) feel better. Just rolling a lacrosse ball under my foot does wonders!

Way to go Hysteria! That's a great result - especially after dealing with an injury for a week. You didn't let it get you down or stop you. We're proud of you!

Now I need to get back to T25. Even though I did the 10K I feel like I'm slipping backwards. Time for some squats and lunges again! I hate to admit this, but I miss the BLBC. I don't think T25 is as thorough as Dolvett and his compadres were. I just wish it wasn't so expensive. (BTW, I found out yesterday that they award medals for the first three finishers in each age group. Well, I guess it pays to be older than dirt because you have a lot less competition. I ended up finishing 3rd (out of 4 for the 65-69 group), and I was walking! So I now have a medal. Of the 1000 or so that did the 10K, I came in around 900, which means 100 finished behind me. Not bad for an old lady. I will say that treadmill training is absolutely the way to go. It keeps you focused on a steady rate. Slow and steady wins the race.)

That's still way way cool Hysteria about the metal!

I hear you about the BLBC. It was a great program, especially for those just starting out. I think we were in the best bootcamp they have. It's kinda weird but I kept the club level of the program and I still have access to all the bootcamps that we had access to back then. There may be some new workouts that they have that I do not have access to but I agree, it's not worth $40/month.

Sorry to hear about your disappointment with T25. I always thought that would be a tough program to do, based on the little I've seen from their informericals. I've only been doing the Daily Burn workouts for a little over a week but I really like them and it's only $13/month or something like that, and the nice part is you can get a month free to try out just in case your DVDs are not doing it for you.
