Crossfit Successes

Okay, this is a little one, but it has taken me a while. I was able to get into a handstand without doing a wall walk. Might not mean much to most, but considering I haven’t done anything remotely gymnastic in 37 years, I’ll take it.
What are your crossfit successes? PRs, firsts, etc.

Congrats on the handstand against the wall! My most recent success is HSPU against the wall. When I was young (a long... long time ago) I use to walk on my hands all the time. I was shocked when I started CF 11 months ago I couldn't even do a handstand against the wall. I recently found out it is a lot easier to do HSPU in the middle of the floor with nothing to rest against. For some reason I can pump out a lot of HSPU this way versus against the wall.0

Well done on the achievements. I'm still waiting for my successes, hoping to be able to do one strict pull-up and kick up into a handstand against the wall, ooh and decent ring dips would be good too... one day!0

I need to know your trick because I can do HSPU's against a wall all damn day but let me try even a handstand (let alone a HSPU) in the middle of the floor and it turns into a walkover in about three seconds.
Congrats on your handstand Allen!

Come on folks... I know you did something well today. Let it out!0

No PR or anything for me but my friend did her first box jump. She's 60 years old and has been working up to it over the last couple of months. Yeah!0

PR last night on dead lifts 230#. I actually think I can do more when not fatigued.
WTG on your handstand!0 -

Last night I did 25 (5x5) HSPU in the middle of the room - new PR! According to my coaches which just got certified on gymnastic training it is supposed to be easier when not against the wall because your body is better aligned and you activate your core muscles. Anyway, I form a triangle with my head and hands, bring my knees off the floor to my elbows and then kip my feet straight up towards the ceiling while locking out my arms. I do lose my balance once in a while walkover, that happens when I do not bring my knees to my elbows.0 -

Hmm I'll have to give this a shot. I always tried to walk up into a handstand first and then bring my knees down to kip back up, maybe the knees to elbow first will help. Thanks.0 -
@KellyAnn1286 if you box has small pads for situps, rest your head one. It will give you an inch or so off the floor and feel a lot better than the hard floor.0

Congrats on your handstand Allen!

No PR's as such today but managed to finish among the 1st today - which hardly ever happens!!
Must be because there was no running in the WOD which always kills me.
WOD:
30 KB
15 burpees
10 box jumps
3 x rounds for time0 -
I started CF and set a goal in January 2015 to do 5 strict pull-ups by January 2016. (I already had 2). I hit my goal last week already! Now I'm trying to learn to kip so I can actually do the workouts, ha ha...0

And that would be a no rep
You've got to be level. Maybe something to work up to

If you use 15# plates on either side of the abmat for your hands it would count though correct (keeping your hand level with the abmat)?0 -

Correct, if you put the plates on both sides of the abmat it is RX. A lot of the firebeathers at my box do it that way against the wall.
I was just recommending when starting out without the wall to rest against, try the pad first.0 -
I PR'd my clean at 150 pounds!0

I can now do 21 double unders in a row. I went from 5 to 17 to 19 to 21 & you would have thought I just won the crossfit games! Pretty pumped.0

Woohoo everybody! I love seeing this stuff. :-) I agree on the "freestanding" HSPU...easier for me to tripod and then kip up. My body hates the "collapsing" feeling and wants to be centered. It's something that hinders my handstand walks because my body hates when I force it off balance to move forward. Oh well.
I pulled my back on HSPUs today (just like I did last week, blah), but I did manage to finish 21 reps of DLs (155#), box jumps and HSPUs, and then 15 of the DLs and 12 of the box jumps under the 10min cap. (We did a Diane-with-box-jumps WOD).0 -
Adding to this thread. Yesterday my Box did only Handstand walks. I debated not showing up. I cannot Handstand Walk and of course could not even "Kick Up" on the wall either. Basically still doing wall walks. I did one Kick Up on the Wall two months ago but could not repeat it even though I tried.
Yesterday my coach just had me focus on Kick Up and I nailed on the 3rd try. Did 4 or 5 more in a row holding each on for a 5 second count. I just told myself to keep my arms locked and I would not fall on my head (lol)
Pretty psyched. Thanks Allan Misner. You inspired me to nail it yesterday!0 -
I strung together a few doubleunders for the first time last night warming up to complete "Jerry" (mile run, 2k row, mile run). This was my first attempt at Jerry and I was worried I wouldn't be able to finish, but I did in 30:18. Running and Rowing are my nemesis.0

5:00 Annie time. A 2:07 PR, I was super excited.0

I did Diane last night for the first time. I was talking to the coach beforehand about what to scale the HSPU to and she was like why scale them? I was like...ah 21 is really high number and I don't think I can do that many. She said just try it. Low and behold I didn't do it fast and they weren't all pretty but I got all of them done Rx and all the deadlifts too. Time 11:48. This wasn't even on my bucket list of something I wanted to do but I feel like I just climbed a mountain. I'm so proud and excited...just wanted to share. Hope you all have a great day!0
